Born Again Torinos
Добавлен 13 окт 2007
Hi Everyone. I hope you enjoy my videos. Some are old videos that I made from the 70,s through the 80's. Others such as the Starsky Gran Torinos are current. I make Starsky & Hutch Gran Torinos and sell them all over the world.
I'm still building Starsky & Hutch Gran Torinos even though I took down my website because it was so time consuming.

My 45th Starsky & Huch Gran Torino Project...Episode 5
Hey everybody, this 5th episode is very short. I'm 99% done doing body work on the torino and is going to paint very soon. I show the body sanded with 220 grit. The car will be primed with an epoxy primer, then painted.
The rest of the video is for a friend of mine who is looking to buy a log splitter and I wanted to show her how the one I use works.

Here is a short clip of my 1982 Trans Am which I was thinking of making a KITT, leaving for it's new home in California to it's new owner. I may do another one some day, you never know. I sure had fun working on it. I didn't put any of the KITT items on it. I did make it completely black.

Welcome to the 45th Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino Project that I am working on. It's been three years since I was able to do another S&H unit and I'm pretty excited. This 45 car is owned by a fellow named David from Southern California. We have been talking for years about starskyizing his Gran Torino and the day has finally come to do it. I will do a series on the entire process and progress of ...
Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino, 82 Black Trans Am and Solar Generator Update
Просмотров 363Год назад
Hey everybody, I've had some guys ask me if I'm still making Starsky torinos and Yes I am still making them. So I thought I'd make a video giving an update on torinos, the KITT Trans Am and the new solar generator.
Home Made Solar Generator

A good friend gave me some older solar equipment that has never been used from 2009. It being 2023 now, the panels, box, breakers & controller are 14 years old. I made an aluminum frame for the two 60 W solar panels and daisy chained them together. I purchased a new inverter and a deep cycle marine lead acid battery and solar panel weather proof connectors. I used the lead acid battery because ...

Vintage Code 3 Police Lightbar In Daytime and Nighttime

Hey everybody, I bought this vintage police car lightbar at a yard sale. I had wanted one for a few years. I am however not keeping it. So if you always wanted a beautiful, colorful lightbar on display in your man cave or shop. It is made by Code 3 and the model is 360. It has an unusual shape. I simply powered it up with a 12 volt jump pack. If you are interested in it. Shoot me an email. Steve
Fallout 4 NO MODS Scale Walls & Engine Block Glitches (PS4 Recording)

I'm trying to get more life out of my Fallout 4. I've done about everything you can do and getting bored. So I do things like exploits and glitches. I was looking at the prydwen and wondered if I could get on the top of it. So I did with the engine block glitch. I also show how to do the scaling the wall glitch to get to places you normally couldn't get to.

Well I finally got the trans am back from my mechanic. I had him unplug the computer (sorry K.I.T.T.) and put another 4 barrel and standard distributor in it so neither is run by the computer. It sounds and runs great now. It also had new brakes and rotors, belts etc. In this episode I take it for a short drive and do a walk around.

I have a couple of questions regarding my 1976 Torino 1- package tray what material should I make one from and the thickness of it? 2- interior rear window trim mouldings , any idea where I could get them or can these be made with a substitute material? Thank you
Hey there, The hat tray is made from fiberboard with a interior matching paper glued to it. You can use any stiff material you like and cover it with vinyl. Look at the two clips that screw to the metal behind the seat back that holds down the hat tray. It will show you the thickness. Not sure what moldings you are talking about and which window. There is no trim around the rear window on the inside. Do you mean the quarter windows?
@@born_again_torinos the back window above package tray I have seen a trim around the window on the inside it also covers the headliner
@@CoreyDriscoll-m4z No, that is the rubber that goes all around the window holding it in.
Huh, looks like your log splitter has a 3 gpm gear pump with a built-in relief valve that is probably set for around 1,000 psi. And is that a 4-way, tandem center spool, lever operated, spring centered - detented return position, hydraulic control valve? .........But what would I know. Look, it's a doggy!!!
Well, the only thing I understood was the built-in relief valve because i've seen it in action. I should have know that mr. fluid power would know all that....yes, doggies are great.
Will you be showing videos of you installing all of the interior panels etc and exterior trim pieces. Thanks
Hey Cory, The owner of the torino took the interior out of the car before he shipped it to me. So no, I won't be showing the interior work. I'll have to think about videoing putting on trim. I've always showed the progress videos rather than while I'm working. A few times I've demonstrated how to do something for a few moments like board sanding or layering body filler. Do you have a torino?
Comming right along, Steve, I am enjoying the channel on this car! . . . Mike
Hi Mike, The next step is paint, so the next video should be much more exciting. Take care my friend.
DdDMICHHELTFKKKJR
Absolutely beautiful car
Thank you very much.
LOOKING great Steve, may have to send you one of mine from Texas.
Thanks, I can do one a year now. Slowing down in my old age.
Funny how your dog isn't bothered in the least by all that noise...mine would have been running for the doggy door to get inside ! Can't wait to see the GT get a new red coat .
Daisy is a good girl. Nothing much rattles her. The only thing I can think of that upsets her is fireworks in the neighborhood. When she hears a backfire or firework boom, she walks over to me and lays at my feet the poor thing. But she is fine with thunder for some reason.
Hey do you still buy Torinos and sell them?
Yes I buy them if I can afford them. Prices have skyrocketed on them. I make the same weather I buy them or do someone else's car.
I'm wondering if some of those dents are from hail? East of Denver they would get hail the size of golf balls... or larger, and it would look like someone took a Ball Peen hammer to the car.
Nah, these are not hail dings and dents. Maybe from sitting and having things thrown onto it and stacked on it over the years. The ones on the side are likely door dings.
I'm starting to get burnt out doing the body work on my Metro, and it has i/4 the area of your car. The rubber bumpers are more work that I thought it would be. What grit do you start out with?
You have to be more careful with rubber bumpers, or polyurethane. You shouldn't have dents in them anyway, chips, scratches and gouges yes. As for the metal dings, if the paint is thin use 100 grit with a D.A. Hobo Freight sells a really nice cheap one if you don't have one. Work flat avoiding digging in with an edge. Feather the paint and primer so you don't have a harsh edge. For a ding that is the size of a penny, feather around it about two inches or more and then a few more inches around that for tooth for the filler to grab onto. When sanding the filler hit it gently with the D.A. flat to knock it down a bit, then finish with board sanding. You probably will need to do it twice. Before you paint make sure to move up to 220 grit to finish the whole car. A metro would be fun and easy.
Great Start Steve, from Houston, Texas
Thank you so much. It will all be worth it.
Well steve, its coming along, but definitely lots of work for you!! The owner will love it when its done and appreciate you labor of love!
While I was sanding, I was thinking about your station wagon Tony.
The car is looking great nice work. Is there a source for the wheel lip chrome.
No, other than used or NOS on ebay. Thank you for the kind words. 8^) Thankfully, the owner of this torino has wheel lip molding.
@@born_again_torinos I have seen some stick on chrome I'm looking into.
@@mycontinental3611 I've never heard of that.
@@mycontinental3611 You mean the chrome side molding they sell at AutoZone?.... That might work.

@born_again_torinos in and out around and under lol very time consuming.. amazing job
@@jerrylockwood2624 thank you Jerry.
Never really understood wanting to have the Starsky stripe. Really not a great look.
It is a sore spot with many torino owners. They have some paint shop do it who don't know how it should look or do it from memory. Then the owner is upset because every time they look at their car they get mad. I have the exact measurements from the hero #1 car from the tv show.
It’s going to be really awesome done. I see you take great pride in your work.
It is satisfying to finish one.
I remember seeing these for sale in the showroom new. The painted stripe wasn’t very well done, looked like an afterthought. Looked cool from 20’ though!
You are correct. I've owned two of the factory Limited Editions. The strip was horribly off and poorly done and no black pinstriping.
@@born_again_torinos But they sure looked Kool! 😎 At the time my Dad had a new 73 Ranchero GT, Ginger with the Orange and black vinyl stripe down the sides. Learned to drive on that one. Had a 351 Windsor which was so bad on gas, you could almost watch the needle drop…lol.😂
@@Teacher659 Yeah, they are not the best on gas, even with a 2 barrel. Rancheros are awesome.
@@born_again_torinos I have a 72 Blazer with a 330 HP Crate and a 2011 C6 Grand Sport, but one thing is for certain, neither one will ever sound as good as your Ford…just music.
@@Teacher659 There is something about certain engines that sings. I love the sound of a built 400 and 455 olds. I can't explain it.
I have a 74 Torino Wagon, its that red with black interior. Had it for almost 6 years now. I love it.
If I ever had a tribute car, that would be the one
Daisy, the star of the show. Trying to get myself motivated to keep working on my Metro project, so many little details to deal with. The paint looks great so far. Does this have the 302 or 351?
Yes, Daisy is the boss supervising my work. Her wagging tail makes me smile. Just jump in and work on the metro. Do a little each day. It doesn't have to be perfect. I'm not a perfectionist. If I were, I'd never get one car done. I didn't ask the owner what engine was in this one. Odds are it's one of the three 351s.
I can't believe how the memories come flooding back whenever I see footage of the engine compartment of one of these Torino's . Years of myself , popping the hood release & seeing the same exact image of my very first car at 18 , and all the help I got from my friends to make her run faster than most of the other cars on the road (at that time) . Thanks for the trip down memory lane .
Rick, I know what you are saying. It's a good feeling.
Once again you made it look soo beautiful!! Coming along really great steve!!
Tony, thank you. Remember to call me! Dying to know what car you bought! Maybe a 2nd gen Trans Am?
Hey Steve brilliant work any advice on masking an engine bay to be painted red ?
Hi Brad, I just did that to this torino the other day. I got it all jammed trunk, doors and under the hood. In the next video soon I'll go over it and say what I did. It is very time consuming. If you are not pulling the engine, you have to remove a lot of items on the fire wall and fenders and mask the rest. Sand it, clean it and paint.
Yeah that would be great. The money isn’t coming in. My has been in 4 surgeries. She’s not back to work. I can dream though your video.
Can you tell me the size, offset , and bolt pattern you use for the US mags indy wheels you use?
I don't measure backspace. I just order the wheel size I need. I've never looked at backspace.
Ok, I wanted to order them and they have multiple options per size
@@JS60SIX I'm sorry, I wish I knew.
What is the back spacing?
Hey good job Steve keeping Starsky and Hutch cars alive. I really enjoy watching your videos. I wish I could have one of those cars. Keep up the good work Razzel Dazzel, Brazzell form Ohi.
Hey Jim. Glad you like the videos. I painted the trunk today and will do the door jams tomorrow. It's not too late for you to find one and starskyize it. They are a ton of fun.

Nice project. I'm a Mopar guy generally but I bought a 76 Cougar this winter and have been fixing up since, It has the same bumper and I like how they did them because unlike GM and Chrysler the bumper doesn't weigh 700 lbs and takes 3 guys and 3 ton jack to take off and put back on. I'm building a Restomod with my Cougar.
I hear you. I use a floor jack to put the bumpers on too.
@@born_again_torinos yeah you have to when your a 1 man show

Hey Will, This beauty belongs to a fellow named David from California. He shipped it up to me for Starskyiztion. Wow, you'e put 30,000 on your S&H unit? Impressive!
@@born_again_torinos You built a great Torino Steve. I just built upon it and I have driven it to work, day trips etc. it’s a great road car!👍👍👍
Looking great Steve
Thank you so much Glen. I'm enjoying working on it.
I love Torinos. I owned a '74. I have been trying to find a reasonably priced Torino or Ranchero for years.
It has gotten much harder to find a good Gran Torino at a fair price. They are still out there, it's just rare.
Morning Steve, What is the owner (David) going to do with the side molding?
I thought it was donated to my stash. But I'll find out. One fender spear is bent, the door trim is pretty good. Was there any quarter trim? I'll have to look.
A lot of I know but your doin fine
How did you get out the dents on that crease that runs mid way up the body? Did you weld a brass stud and pull them out? I don't think most of them have access from behind other than the door section.
The door is the worst spot to reach the body line from the inside. There is a giant girder that runs the length of the door. Most of the fenders can't be reached as well. Yes, I have a stud welder dent puller. But nothing beats getting behind the dent. That just isn't possible half the time. Even with the stud welder, it can stick to the metal so well that on a stubborn crease, it will tear out a hole instead of pulling the dent.
Love it Steve!!
Steve, coming along very nice! . . . Mike
45th?! That is iNsAnElY Awesome! 😅👍
Way to go steve!! Now i dont have to decide if i should by that car or not ! Lol,nice car!
Hey Tony, Aww, you weren't looking for a KITT car. If you do someday...there is no shortage of them out there. But it sure looked and sounded good didn't it? Take care my friend, Steve
long live Patterson !
Is there a black bumper on the front now, or is that the sheet metal that goes behind?
What you are seeing is the inner bumper core powder coated black. The steel chromed bumper skin bolts over it.
I agree on the side trim look better with out it. Wonder where he got the new grill seems hard to find. So nice no rust on the roof. My tail lighs are pitted like that.Of course being Alaska car is probbably why.
Pot metal behaves quite differently than steel when chromed. Those tail light bezels seem to be a weak point. It's still shocking how many NOS parts show up on ebay.
Cool car
Do you have measurements for the package tray I have a 1976
Not off hand. You can measure your hat tray and even cut out a pice of cardboard or paper to get it exact.
Thank you Steve I’m looking forward to driving that sexy beast around
I'm really excited for you Christian. It will take a little getting used to since 80s cars are so much different than modern cars.
Steve good luck on that starsky build for that owner coming up.
