Dude is like, “thanks for listening to my life story, I actually have no question.”
Best album of the band: a masterpiece
god i love Machina , underated album
Machina is my favorite Pumpkins album
Machina pulled me in like a fucking black hole , even I wasn't sure what was happening at the time , now almost 20 years later it still conjures up those same feelings and issues internally that are hard to explain but very real . Saw him for the third time just this past Friday and finally got two Machina songs played and wow such a rush .
This video comes to me from the algorithm gods so to speak. Recently diving into all that is Machina and the animation Glass and the machines of God. The animation is definitely one thing that feels unfinished, unless I haven't found it all. But this exchange between Billy and the fan is really brilliant. Thanks for posting this.
Great album i think. Still play it a lot.
My favorite album of all time. Can't wait for the reissue. Billy has stated recently on Instagram that a box set of Machina in its original intended order will be reissued! YES!!!!
@Jay Sharp i mean, that and Zeitgeist isn't getting re released anytime soon because the label owns the record and they refuse to let it go. I would actually die for a Zeitgeist remix and rerelease.
This is ridiculous! This and Zwan and Zeitgeist need reissues badly. Ugh
I can't wait either. Been a fan since mcis and I'm just now starting to understand the transition between zero to glass to shiny.
Probably coming 2025 for the 25th anniversary. Your patience is commendable, as is all Pumpkinheads…
HOLY it's original intended order?? i can't wait till 2025 :(
"Machina" is such an important record in my life it's impossible for me to see it as anything but a flawless masterpiece. It was the soundtrack to a crucial phase of my life - it is like a friend who was with you through some really dark and intense and beautiful and confused years. The album's "flaws" to me are merely part of its authenticity. So many of SP's songs are important parts of so many people's lives that any bitching about whatever aspect of their career/characters/cvghcjks is simply beside the point.
What flaws?
Yeah, my cousin died a month B4 it came out in a car accident. 'With Every Light' held my hand and told me it was going to be ok.
Same
I remember listening to this album when it was released and feeling as though there was some kind of "dust" or "sand" covering the songs. This probably had to do with the artwork and the understanding that this would be SP's final record. Hearing Billy Corgan confirm that this was indeed the effect they were shooting for makes me feel just a little less crazy.
Carl Kellner Well, the original concept for Machina was to replicate the live experience as much as possible, even to the point of the band recording everything together with very few overdubs. When D'arcy left the band, the noise pop sound and layers were added in to take the Glass/Machines of God story to its ultimate level.
Dross, man, DROSS...
Yes, Dross is one of the best songs by SP. I hope it's done well in the reissue.
He's right, you know? If you get really high and pull up this album on iTunes and full-screen the visualizer, it's a whole nother thing.
"....but you ever heard Machina.....ON WEED?!"
Thanks for posting this! It really helps wrap the concept metaphysically
I can't wait for the Machina/Machina II reissue! Hopefully it comes out soon! 😃
"5 yr ago" 😅
@@TerribleEnglish I know… 😭
I love Machina. I hope the reissue sees the light of day.
I don't get this. Machina is a solid album, beginning to end. Blue Skies Bring Tears is one of the most beautiful songs Billy ever wrote.
"Blue Skies" Makes me happy in my pants
I don't get it either. To me Machina is just as strong an album as Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie (don't get me wrong, Gish is great too). Ironically for me, it's Adore, arguably Billy's most personal album, that is somehow the least strongest in my opinion and is one I sometimes completely forget about.
Machina is there best album
I'm currently debating purchasing an original LP. It's the only pumpkins vinyl I don't own, yet its my all time favorite album. I even bought Aeroplane. While the reissue is FINALLY coming out the original records artwork will always remain unmatched. Plus the sound quality is said to be just mind blowing on those 2000 Machina pressings.
I hope you got it. It's a relic for all times. I'd get it if I had a chance, and I'd certainly play it, not just to get my own transfer... But to listen to it.
Machina II is the best album of the pumpkins, imho.
I have the 2000 pressing. it does indeed sound glorious. worth seeking out as the reissue will likely be a new mix. the original issue will always be prized.
Did you ever get it?? I bought a sealed copy a few years ago and it does sound pretty good... Interesting that the LP tracklist is different than the CD and also includes the slow version of 'Speed Kills'. The bass sounds heavenly on that tune
Thank you for posting this
It's weird, i fucking love that album.
So many funny moments in this video. I love Billy.
Machina is my favourite record 🤷🏼♀️
Great interview
I thought I was the only one that adored machina
I always felt his focus on fans that don't get the material overshadows those of us who do listen, you can lead a fan to water but you can't make them drink, but many of us do get, why does he always focus so heavily on those that don't. I have a theory.
It's the same sort of negative bias that most people have to push back against on a daily basis. For those of use who are deeply insecure from childhood experiences, it's even worse.
I wonder if he still feels this way entirely...
Incredible
It’s funny because when it came out lots of people asked what’s this about then and he would never say because of course that would give it all away haha
I bought Machina on cassette in 2000 and on CD in 2001 - so it sold....
It’s a good cd I even got part 2
Machina, i liked it!✊️
That’s so funny because I have this one friend who is musical like me, and for the most part we kinda love all the same music and we love playing together and the genres/styles we gravitate towards in not only playing but listening to music are almost exactly the same except he can’t stand the Smashing Pumpkins (partly because he doesn’t like Billy or thinks he’s an asshole sometimes, but also partially because I’ve always like forced them onto him, saying like, you know, they’re the best, they’re my favorite, I don’t why you don’t like them, so that probably turns him off cause it’s annoying; that is to say, like, it’s not like he doesn’t think they’re good, there’s songs here and there that he likes somewhat but it just bothers him that I’m like so into them and think they’re amazing while to him they’re just like pretty good but nothing special), but one time he told me, there was a time he smoked a shit ton of pot and for some reason or another decided to listen to MACHINA or it came on in shuffle or something and he realized he really likes the layered style to it, but it took him getting so high to realize it lmao.
Machina is my favorite!
BRAKING NEWS: THE MACHINA RE-ISSUE IS COMING ALONG WITH THE METRO DVD
Oh my gosh, where did you hear this and where I can find a source?
Still waiting
I wonder how much the 9/11 affected the music climate. Did Billy mean for M1 to sound more like M2?
MACHINA!!!
Billy, I, personally, hated the artifice you are talking about. I can understand the idea. But even if it's on purpose, it just gets tiresome to listen to a 70 min. record that has no dynamics due to the stupid "wall of sound" production. Adore wasn't like that, not to mention MCIS. Machina would've been a great record and it would sell very well, if you could just allow the songs to have dynamics. BTW, Machina II is a masterpiece!
Looking forward to your next album! :)
It may have been pressure from the albums being released at that time. The wall of sound thing was being pushed all over. Being louder was better. It was an unfair fight for the band.
HEAVY METAL. HEAVY METAL MACHINES. HEAVY METAL. HEAVY METAL MACHINES. Machina was awsome, over years and in layers
