Great video! Just wanted to express my experience - flat profile does not treat skin tones nicely... Many color artefacts, whereas Standard is more accurate, I am using Davinci which can easily fix it in the Flat, but still, more work to do, Standard from the other hand is more contrasty, but CST to Wide Gamut and back to Rec.709 will fix the problem if you're grade withing Wide Gamut
I'm loving mine.
I was intially planning to get one for behind de scene shots, but I'm not too sure about the ratio workflow/video quality. I decided to go for a 2 or 3 action cameras setup, I'll see how it goes. Editing a multi angle on resolve for example has incredibly become simple. I'm sure to get better 4K final result + low lights if it happens to be. (About price, second hands action cams are top, you get 10bit footages, HDR, it's way more rugged for behind the scene). At the end of the day, unless you really want a 360 experience or do some FPV on the road kind of videos, you basically just pick angles from your shots.
I can agree - 100% thanks for you work. Greetings Tom
Really!!!
Great review Danny, I like your approach, subbed!
I'm still deciding on whether to pull the trigger on this one when the pay for my most recent job comes in - I'm thinking of using this for walk and talk interview video podcasts where I'll direct the shots and angles in post. Thought I might get the shoulder strap thing and mount it on their (smaller than 3m) selfie stick. Will need to get over looking a bit like a prat but thought it could be cool.
Anything you think I'm overlooking there? Would probably run the video for an hour or so at a time
Great review, thanks! Maybe ill have to pick that one up after all 😅
It’s really good!! Took it out on my bike again this morning, had a blast. Definitely haven’t bought a second bike since filming this 👀
Ha I thought i recognised Nottingham. The picture quality looked better than what I got from my gopro max. I ended up going back with my DJI pocket 2 to get quality good enough to stand over.
Gopro 💀 i’ve had a bunch, never liked them.
Yeahhhh, nottinghamshire through and through 💪🏻
Just grabbed an X4 and was looking for bits, came across your vid and was like... wait, I recognise those locations! Also Notts based :)
Good stuff bro!
Thanks Roger! 🙌🏻
mine takes videos that look like they were taken on a flip phone from 2005
Great video Danny, great info I like the way you have a laugh when doing your vlog. I've subbed to the channel. Looking forward to seeing more of your content. 🤙🏼
Grim weather lol
Welcome to England 😂
It’s a very versatile camera exelent for vlog underwater and sports whanever for photos and indoor footage are the weakest points .
How to download the updated plugin 😊
It’s on the Insta360 website, which one you download depends on the computer you’re using
www.insta360.com/download/insta360-x4?to=reframe
Danny I’m curious if you bought this camera or if Insta360 provided it to you. In my experience, the footage is horrible regardless of resolution or frame rate. The overheating renders the camera useless in all scenarios.
I'd like to hear about this as well because I was afraid of its dynamic range, etc... and every video you see is obviously shilling 😅
They sent me the camera on it’s release but expected nothing in return, i expected a camera that was absolute trash because like I say in the video, every action camera i’ve used in the past has been awful. So it came, sat in a box for a few days and eventually I tried it and that’s when my opinion towards it changed - began feeling a little inspired.
They haven’t paid me, i have 0 contract with Insta360, i haven’t been told what to say, they haven’t watched the video and approved it (like branded videos are) it’s very much an independent video.
I don’t like the 5.7k or 4k and that’s why I said that if i’m ever going to use 25p, i’m using 8k. The 8k isn’t ‘mirrorless’ camera level however it’s a huge improvement over the X3 that I used (that thing was a hire for the project I mentioned near the beginning of this video and is the whole reason I didn’t open the box with excitement for this X4).
Dji action 4 is possibly the only other action camera i’d be comfortable using.
I have nothing to lose so i’ll give you an insight in to this channel. I have 10k subs, i don’t get paid to make any video from any brand. I’ve been paid for one video in my life and that was a video for Imagen and even then they never told me what to do and i’d never agree to be paid and then given the info to say as i hate seeing that on the internet.
So every video, including this one, i make off my own back in my time in between my wedding business and put my honest opinion in to - but because it’s an opinion, it’s all subjective. I make my money from the views, from affiliate links and my own website sales.
I certainly don’t ‘shill’ as I have 0 reason to. If I think something is awful, i’ll be very honest and say it. The situation with the plugin was literally as I said in the video. I’d even filmed, edited and was about to post it around 3 weeks ago but insta360 support emailed back and flagged up the plugin update and then I tried it, remade the video and came at it with a different approach because I don’t want to misinform anybody.
Long story short, everything I say is as genuine as I can make it. Sometimes I have made mistakes and i take it very hard on myself as all I want to do is make the best videos to help others make their choices in what they buy and how they use it.
Hope that clears up any doubt you have ☺️
Well in the video there’s the comparison and they haven’t been adjusted to ‘make one better than the other’ so how you see the change in the sky especially and the shadows is exactly what you can expect from this camera if you were to buy it. as like I say in my long ass comment to the original post, i want to provide a genuine video and reliable review. The ‘flat’ profile isn’t as flat as log, it’s very similar to d-cinelike from DJI. You may lose some of your highlights and shadows in a highly contrasted scene but you are obviously less likely to with ‘flat’ than you are with ‘normal’. If you want to retain the most detail and have the best dynamic range, log is the way to go and the only action camera that i’ve used and trust with log is the Action4 but that’s not 360 so it’s a compromise in some way. Hope that helps ☺️
I’d agree with the X4 footage. The OneRS 360 came is underrated. All of the grain issues you see in the x4 aren’t an issue on the 1inch sensor.
Hi Kurt. Just curious about how you know about the overheating. Mine does that and insta 360 at least tells you to keep airflow on it. I’m guessing it’s a trade off because running 8k is power intensive and the only way to deal with this is by having heat sinks so there becomes the trade off between size and functionality. As for image quality well it’s not a Z9 Nikon nor is it in the same price range. It is what it is. Most action cameras do short sequences so the overheating is not an issue. I’ve had GoPros that overheated in the first five minutes. But in the end no matter what you are using if you aren’t facing the action you don’t have any footage. Use a decent full frame camera and keep the 360 running in the background. This way you will always have something.
Image looks bad if you compare it to Osmo Pocket 3
