- The search for British teenager Jay Slater, missing in Tenerife, has been called off, police have said.
“The search operation is over. Yesterday was the final day of the search," Tenerife's Guardia Civil told the BBC.
The 19-year-old from Lancashire, England, has been missing since 17 June, after he told a friend he was lost in the mountains.
Police carried out a new search on Saturday with the help of dozens of emergency workers near the village of Masca, in the Rural de Teno national park.

I really don't get this, my daughter has trigeminal neuralgia and was in constant pain i arranged for her to have a lidacane infusion privately, it cost £2k i didn't have it so my other daughter set up a go fund me page which raised £400 for which i am eternally grateful i paid the balance on a credit card which im still paying off , why are people prepared to fund this search to the tune of £40k because of someone's stupidity, i mean who gets in a car with 2 strangers at 4am blokes a idiot

I get soooo anoyed with this family. They have all of £40,000 to search for this man. They have paid nothing to the search parties. They have offered nothing to the local volunteers, who have put their lives and livlyhoods on the line day after day for this man. They do nothing but slag off the Spanish. And now they have the gaul to complain that not enough volunteers showed up yesterday!!!!

He clearly isn't missing. British teenagers in 2024 catch buses to avoid 30-minute walks, let alone 14-hour ones! The bus stop was right outside the AirBnB... he could've literally just gone back in the house (assuming he didn't see those 2 men as a threat), grabbed some water, recharged his phone, waited 2 hours for the bus, then caught it no fuss.
I believe there was a bus every ten minutes, not 100% sure but I believe I heard a local say she told jay twice the bus was every 10 mins. Now if he was still intoxicated from the night before his judgement may have been poor and he made a bad decision perhaps not understand the massive impossible walk back

In t 1:41 he video of the neighbour that I saw, she said the bus was at 10am, she said he asked twice, and she told him 10 o clock.
Given iits remoteness, that sounds a lot more likely than every 10 mins.

I was in Tenerife two days ago and asked a local what he thought about the case. He told me it was weird because people did not disappear like that on the island and that given the scale of the research operation, had Jay been in the area dead, wounded or alive, he would have been found.
It is true that the island, especially the southern part, is rocky, arid and very, very hot under the sun. However, being such a touristy place, there are cars, tour-operator buses and people (including the Guardia Civil) all over the place, on any road from dawn to dusk making it easy for anyone to hail a car and ask for help if needed.
There are actually tourists going and checkinig the rental house where he was last seen and some operators include it in their tour of the island... They had a massive search yesterday in the area where he last used his phone (very weird they did not locate his chip (they do it with terrorists even with their phones off!), it was in the local newspaper yesterday.

Convicted of violent disorder in August 2023, when he was aged 18. He is now 19. His codefendants were found guilty of witness intimidation, attempted robbery and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
Throughout a trial at Preston Crown Court, all eight laughed and joked in a way the judge said showed disrespect. The judge said if the group had been convicted of the more serious charge of section 18 wounding, they would all have gone to youth custody.
Tom Hilton, who was 17 at the time of the attack, suffered a head injury so serious his skull was exposed, and wounds to his shoulders and legs in the attack close to the Old Paper Mill in Hermitage Street, Rishton, in August 2021.

Tom Hilton, the victim, was jailed for 14 months, disqualified from driving for 25 months and must sit an extended re-test if he wants his licence back. He pled guilty to attempted burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving. Before conviction for these offences, he had 14 convictions for 28 offences.
The court also heard that on committing these offences on February 12, Hilton was in breach of two community orders which had been imposed on him, one just three days earlier and one in November 2021 which was a two-year order.
Recorder Timothy Hannam KC said: “You have an awful record for someone of your age.
“You’ve had a great many chances to change your ways but these offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence is appropriate.
“This was a prolonged period of bad driving being chased by police. The speeds were terrifyingly high in built up areas. You were lucky the streets were relatively empty."

Making video calls uses up much more battery than voice calls, which uses more than texts.
They did locate his last known location via his phone.
the last “ping” as they call it - when the phone is active not long after those calls - they were able to locate his alleged position. Which was in a remote area. Which has been shown on maps.
But Once that phone dies of battery - you cannot locate it. Apparently

A read that a few people from Tenerife have come forward and openly said that his phone was taken up there and thrown where nobody would find it (hence the last known ping was up there) They said it was done to cover up what really happened, align with Lucy's bullshit story, throw the police off the scent and make the story that he got lost more believable. Not saying it's true but it definitely makes sense.

In this situation you have to act fast to save a life. As the story unfolds it’s turning out to be something more and it’s understandable the search is going to be called off.

Basically the kid is involved with drugs, probably asked to sell at a festival "lost" a bag which would probably be about £30k, quite the coincidence that the go fund me was around £30/£40k target, they wont find him because hes not missing his mum probably knows exactly where he is.
