Mr. Hardware, I enjoyed your terrific and brief how-to video! Now, I scroll through the comments for a parts list. I need to do the same thing. I'll mount that frame to a screen door to make it more rain weather and AC friendly.
Just what I was looking for... Unfortunately no one in my area sells these supplies... Thanks!
Excellent, thanks for posting!
Thanks so much, Frank! This helped us out a great deal!
I really enjoyed the Eagles "Life in the Fast Lane" playing in the background.
Well done!!! Thank you for the hint.
You are the man. Nice work.
What is that framing called and where can you get it?
The Frank Pelione nod when the job is done, storm window or wiseguy dropped into the river...
that was really great, thanks for sharing. is he flaring the ends a bit with those plyers for ease of white joining piece connection?
El magnifico.
It is an aluminum extrusion (available in mill, bronze and white), about 1/4" id on the glass side. It is about $7.98 for a 96" length.

Mr. Hardware
It takes about 5 minutes to measure and cut the aluminum rails on a miter box w/a non-ferrous blade. And about that long to cut the Plexiglas and assemble.
It did go together quickly, but all the extrusions were pre-cut. How long did that take?
Actually the frame is an I-beam shape w/ a 1/4" opening on one side and the other has beads which allow the frame to trap the metal (or plastic) corners that hold the frame together. The vinyl molding formed around the plexiglas, or glass hold the frame tight to the plexi.
Mr. Hardware
what is the thickness of plexiglass?
@@beckyzhang7045 it’s .90, about the same as single strength glass, just under 1/8”.
What is the clarity of the plexi after the protective film is removed? Also, same question as below from some time ago, how are these fastened to Andersen Narroline 200 series doublehung (3046 and 3052 size codes). Thx!
+Christopher D'Amico
plexi is perfectly clear. It can be scratched if cleaned w/an abrasive cleaner. Stay with soap and water.
Attaching a 5/16 thick frame requires clips similar to the ones holding a storm in a storm door. We have other fasteners that can be fastened to the frame and pivot into the wood window, but the thickness will be over 5/16. I don't know the Anderson frame to discuss attachment, send a pic of the screen w/a scale in the foreground.
This guy reminds me of my brother Ben so much. Lol.
Love his facial expressions.
Checked your website out but couldn't find the product...
You need to call and talk to Frank. He'll need info before we can sell you anything. There are so many variables, then he'll price it out for you. Blair
I wonder if you can just use poster frames that already have the metal framing & the plexi glass, then you can use some wood narrow 1/2 wide wood between them and build a window box around it and you'll have a nice cheap double pane window.
The problem with homemade thermopanes is the moisture trapped between the pieces of glass. As soon as there is a temperature change they will fog up inside the panes of glass. Our thermopanes are made in a factory that pulls out all the moisture and fills the void with an inert gas, then sealed for life. Blair
can you pre-cut everything for me if I give you the measurements and ship as a kit? I can assemble myself. Also do you have the rolls of magnetic tape for mounting these windows?
+Billy Singleton
yes we do, but the magnetic tape is usually not strong enough. Use velcro or very small screws and attach that way.
Do you guys know where i can get a replacement prebuilt with the slider buttons for the notches inside the frame?
SpringsPimpin , we do, however almost every window and screen should also. Send us a picture of one of your existing window or screen operators and we can identify it and get back to you.
Love this video! I am making inserts with 6 mil acrylic because I want to reduce the wobble bow look. Where do you get the U channel that you used or what is it called exactly? I would love to come and get it from you but I am in Canada!
I would try a custom storm window place. they should have many channels to chose from. We cut and ship if you need. I'm not sure if we can ship to Canada but I'll run it across the Detroit river to Windsor on my boat, LOL.
I have a "new neighbor" noise problem so I need to sound proof my bedroom windows. I can't find anybody locally to buy the soundproof window inserts from.. so I've decided to make them myself using 1/4" acoustic grade acrylic sheets, then affix EPDM rubber weather stripping around edges so they will fit snugly into the window frame. This way I won't need to use aluminum framing, and I can remove easily. I just need to make sure Acrylic measurements are correct to leave room for the rubber on edges, hope it works. Let me know what you think of this, thanks.
+Ashton 09
Try to get molding or tracking from the distributor of the acoustic acrylic sheats. Sizing is difficult to get a proper molding for.
Ashton 09 Did you make your own soundproofing window inserts? How did it work out for you? Where did you get the acoustic grade plexiglass?
Ashton, you could test the effectiveness of a single strength plexiglas (.90, a thin 1/8") by taping an oversizes piece over the opening before spending big bucks on 1/4" plexi, it is very expensive. If works you could get frames from ezstormpanels.com
Epdm rubber weather stripping
OMG...I live in an apartment and this work be perfect ....internally. Do you do patio doors sizes?
We can make aluminum frames to size. But, to use these as an inside storm window go to ezstorm.com, Don there makes frames with soft cussions that make inside storms tighter.
looks like ezstorm.com has lapsed on registration and is now for sale as a domain name.. what is their number if they are still in business?
ezstormpanels.com, sorry
Phone: (313) 469-9680
thanks!!!
I would like to order and put this in my Andersen 600 series screen channel. The screens are 7/16" thick. Would this work?
Our rails are 5/16 but you can put a thin self adhesive foam weatherstrip to increase thickness and improve air sealing.
That's all well and good. Where do you get the supplies and tools?
We stock all kinds of window and screen framing that we don't have cataloged and on the site as of yet. Call and talk to Frank and he'll teach you about why we have different framing once we know your use.
I can't say for your town but 1/2 mile from me is a siding company that does it all. Screen repair, awnings, siding and more. They sell more than I do... T & M Home Improvement, 586-775-6290, Great People.
is it cool to just use some caulk to seal a plexiglass window? it's going to open and also for a clubhouse.
Caulk and/or glazing can be used to seal the plexiglass. I prefer latex glazing or caulk to oil putty because the plexiglass can flex upon temperature changes. Caulk and latex glazing cures fast enough to hole the plex before it can bow.
You can also use Mortite removable rope caulk.
Hi sir I'm in the UK but I just want to know can I make an oversized one to go on the frame seal or the gaps so it is draught proof please advise if you're still about?
My friend Don at EZ Storm makes a beautiful inside storm unit. Go to ezstormpanels.com/ and see his stuff. Blair
And thats how its done..
Can you tell me the name of the manufacturer that makes the rubber/silicone u-channel that you're wrapping around the window? I am having a hard time finding a company that sells it. Thanks!
+lostintxus
I can ship it to you. The manufacture does not sell direct to the public. We need to know what gauge you'll need.
Call and ask for Frank
thats exactly what i need but i want it clear and my windows are 72 x 36----
can you send me two of these? I have such awful drafts! I am not handy and totally would not be able to do this.
I was wondering if you guys could still ship out a kit for my project (making a acrylic screen window insert). I could send more detailed information via email. Let me know if there is an email I can send it to or if I should call first to talk to someone!
Brian, send your request to staff@mrhardware.com, attention Frank. He is the window man.
so, now how do you get it to stay in place, magnets, velco???
AZGloss 4 corner braces and rubber that he wrapped around it. I've been making screens from scratch but I do need some glass replacement in two frames.
Where can I get the metal and tubing to make my own windows
Gilbert’s Hardware, call Daniel 586-776-9532. A window/Storm door business should sell it.
where do you buy the frame from?
We sell the railing, so will some siding companies. Call the store, 586-776-9532 and we will even cut to size.
Where do I find the parts list and the parts?
If you call the Hardware at 586-596-7276 and ask for Brad or Daniel, they will give you the parts and the prices
no mention of any of your materials? was that glue in a gun?? what's the stuff you wrapped around the window first??? and what does it do?
The ‘spline’ wrapped around the plexiglass is a vinyl seal/cushion that comes in different gauges to attach the plexiglass/or glass to the aluminum frame. There are different thicknesses of both plexiglass and glass and so the proper spline is required to properly seal them to the aluminum frame.
No glue was used.
Remember, if you install these in bedrooms where children sleep, and there is a fire, they can’t get out. Or maybe be sure the kids know how to remove them.
how to contact you? can you put together kits to send?
+David Hahn
We ship weekly, all over the USA. Call 586-776-9532, ask for Frank

Frank Pelione Glazer bye day hit man bye night
Lou Brock thew base balls at these windows and couldn't break them. But the ones he thew at were clear like glass! WTH?
This guy, lol
I wish you could see the GARBAGE repairs our local glass and home supply companies did of five of my windows. Not only was the glass cut crooked, they didn't latch properly, fell apart, and they damaged my aluminum frames beyond repair. All for over $400.
