Thanks for posting guys, what an unexpected treat! Steven Wilson is undoubtedly the greatest musician you've never heard of. I'm always tickled to see him get the exposure he deserves. The guys he records with too are all top shelf. His recordings always sound crisp and clear as well due to his extensive experience producing and engineering. Need your old prog rock album remastered? Yeah, he does that too. You mentioned Adam Holzman a master keyboard player, I absolutely get off on hearing him swap solos with Guthrie Govan from the Aristocrats, who already has an intuitive rapport with a beast of a drummer from the same band Marco Minnemann. I read somewhere Marco turned down the gig with Dream Theater due to their prolific touring schedule. Unbelievable to have the ability turn that gig down. There's a great video DT posted of all the guys trying out for the slot somewhere on YT when Portnoy retired, I'll include it below. Greg Blundell has toured with SW also, but this was the studio lineup. The Aristocrats are unbelievable as well if you've never heard them, like the smell of freshly baked cookies for the ears! A jazz fusion trio consisting of Guthrie and Marco who I already mentioned, and Brian Beller an amazing bassist. They run the gamut from jazz to metal, but their phrasing is always spot on and their talent obvious and highly entertaining. It's almost impossible to hear them play and not smile. Blues Fuckers for example is a song where they intentionally butcher blues riffs in an unexpected and fun way. I do hope that you'll continue reacting to more SW music! There's too many great live recordings to mention here, but exploring this guys catalog kept me busy for years. I'm still finding music of his today that I haven't heard and it still continues to impress me. If you guys are still interested try Home Invasion/Regret#9 or the Holy Drinker next. I'll put links below for both which are outstanding and more up tempo than Watchmaker. The guitar/moog solo from Regret/#9 is the finest you will ever hear. I said what I said. Also tell Dave the final movement of the Watchmaker was titled The Hobbits rise up and take back the Shire lol Dream Theater drummer auditions ruclips.net/video/KXM3DuUftKE/видео.html The Aristocrats, Bad Asteroid live ruclips.net/video/r69ikFzUsHM/видео.html Steven Wilson, The Holy Drinker live ruclips.net/video/NBjD8QFtleM/видео.html Steven Wilson, Home Invasion/Regret #9 live ruclips.net/video/-tajHRP9Cm8/видео.html
@@JimNewstead Ha, imagine seeing you here! Two of my favorite celebrities all in one place, be still my shriveled little black Grinch heart. Tell him to watch it Jim he'll listen to you lol. Good to see you mate, can't wait to watch your new DT reaction. Hope Tool gets out your way. I just read earlier that although SW canceled his tour for Future Bites he's been busy penning not one but two new albums to be released in 22 and 23! Fingers crossed for at least one of them to be a little more proggy, but then his compositions never disappoint. And you're right, the album version is absolutely perfect. Did you ever see the studio teasers they released of those tracks? So much fun to watch them all react to the final product in the booth, an incredible bunch of musicians with Alan Parsons at the mixing board. Priceless. Cheers! ruclips.net/video/tepmJdFYiqI/видео.html
Brilliant reaction Dave, glad you did this one, Wilson is a genius, Marco on drums and Guthrie on lead, that is Nick beggs on bass, First class musicians should check out the live version of the song Luminol, it’s a great watch and very well composed 😁👍
Hello fellow reactor! That's Marco Minnemann on drums.... Craig Blundell took over the gig when Marco left. Gutherie Govan on guitar - possibly the finest guitarist in the world working today. Listen to Home Invasion/#Regret 9 to hear him soloing with SW.... up there with Comfortably Numb. And your beloved Adam Holzman plays the greatest synth solo in history on the same track. You are listening to arguably some of the finest musicians on Earth. And Nick Beggs on bass ain't too shabby either! Yup, Steven Wilson managed to get a hell of a band together for this tour!
Actually, please please PLEASE do a video with STEVEN WILSON Home Invasion/#Regret 9. They are two tracks but always played as one. Album version is best rather than live. Trust me on this. Really.
This was really fun to watch. I'm very familiar with the studio version of this song, but I've never seen this live version. It's 2x. FYI all of Steven Wilson's solo albums are solid, as is his live recording from Royal Albert Hall. Dave might like the live video of 'Pariah'.
I have no idea who this Dave guy is - but what a kack of a review lol - as Steven Wilson would say "Enthusiasm!" Was not of course Craig Blundell on drums it was Marko Minicom - very different animal. Craig does play with SW on occasion but this performance was before his time with SW. You're right about musicianship and composition of the absolute highest order. Who writes this !@#$? Sir Steven Wilson is the answer to that. Long may you continue the exploration. Try Ancestral from the 2018 Home Invasion tour recorded at the Royal Albert Hall
Guthrie Govan, arguably the greatest guitar player out there right now and certainly my favourite, plus Marco Minneman, the drummer, play together in a three-piece band called the Aristocrats with American bass player Brian Beller. You should check some of their stuff out. Absolutely superb and there’s nothing else like it!
@@samechick thank you for the “heads-up”. Brilliant performance by Marco, but it doesn’t really show off the other numbers talents. For that, try this: ruclips.net/video/GVlwqflKUfY/видео.html

The album version from Hand. Cannot. Erase. for me is just that little bit better. It's more "Gutherie"!!!!

Nashville tuning on Steven’s guitar guitar 🎸 btw also your commentary reminds of Mr Jameson haha (from Spider-Man)
The best SW band lineup.
