You should try to go to the flea market every time, since you're not doing cheats, sometimes they sell the locked furniture like the cool chairs that you can only get with the careers and you can get them there!
I surprisingly did not hate watching my sister play while waiting for my turn with the Sims 1 in the ye old times. I actually loved watching. But I tried not to show it too much, giving her leverage to play longer than arranged by our parents... This is almost like watching my sister. Good memories :)
If you get the gnome aspect for your house (it's at the bottom when you choose what type of house you live in), I think they fix broken things! And auto lights also help save on the electricity bill.
When you click on the finished painting you should have an option to sell to collector. I think that gives you more money than just selling it in your inventory, but I'm not sure.
The different levels of paintings mean you will be better at certain types. Classic, surrealism and pop art are the first 3 to level up into high quality by memory.

Watching this LP has made my mind up. I've just bought City Living. I hadn't bought any of the expansion packs when Sims 4 came out, I was too annoyed by the lack of toddlers. Now we have them, I'm deciding which packs to get first
It actually doesn't matter what you pay for the paintings when you are creating them, you will always make a profit. Your sim will also actually create a masterpiece every now and then, and masterpieces are worth a crap ton.
If you make large paintings, they usually sell more than the small but it depends on the quality and it also gets the way to completing your task for work faster
Deli you should set up your display of paintings (on the board you use to sell them) just outside your apartment door along the wall of your bathroom!!!
