I'm definitely gonna have to try this on a Pro 3. It's not quite as dirty as the valve synth, but it's still really good at overdrive/distortion/feedback and has wider sweet spots before it goes into full-on noise territory. The duophonic mode in particular is something I want to try, because I love the interference patterns which happen when using heavy distortion on more than one simultaneous note. That was the basis for the last song I uploaded, and I want to do it more.

After reading up on the Novachord I've always wanted to try a valve synth: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novachord The novachord was the first polyphonic synth, made by Hammond in the late 30's and early 40's. It has 163~ tubes and weighs around 500 pounds.

The sound starts valve and comes out. There is a digital controller for the midi and I think the envelope generator is analog but I think the LFO is digital I could be wrong however

The filter and VCA sound excellent and it's got a lot of control all for just 1/10 the price of a Knifonium, but I'm really not sold on the idea of stabilized thyratron oscillators. For me, the best part of a thyratron oscillator's sound is their inherent subtle pitch instability, which gives their output a slightly jittery, almost brassy sound. While stabilization makes it much easier to keep in tune and therefore makes MIDI implementation more feasible, it ends up ironing out my favorite quality. Cool jam, though.
That is an excellent box. There is really something to be said about "valve" synthesis, I loved when you first turned it on and exposed both oscillators, the sweetness of their pure sound was appreciated. So much action in such a small container. And it looks impressive, show wise.
Wow! It reminds me a lot of the EMS Sythi 100 used in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in the early 1970's. Affectionatly known as the "Delaware" That was mostly valve driven! Awsome piece of kit!

I know it's hard to tell a lot of the time through RUclips's compression, but holy shit, when that started up, the sound is AWESOME. I honestly thought that it would be a bit gimmicky, but that sound is fucking amazing. Got a fair few analogue synths but this blows many of them away with that sound.

Beautiful!! The dissonance of two oscillators interacting with each other (8:14) is called INTERMODULATION. Two notes create a third note. It's a beautiful thing.
I've been suggesting for a while to Korg that they make an analogue synth out of their nuTube things.. we finally got the nuBass volca, but I hope they go a bit further really. We had the Knifonium before which was another (expensive) valve mono.. if anyone's going to make a valve poly synth then Korg using nuTubes seems a prime candidate really!

That kicks ass. Erica Synth's original Fusion line made me want to get into eurorack. Now, I love running analog oscillators through the Fusion VCF v2. BUT it makes cold digital wavetables sound warm, gritty, and amazing!
I started building myself some valve synth stuff a few years ago from designs I found online, managed to get the thyratron vco kinda working and got a couple of modulators working perfectly. The 6ar8 balanced modulator is probably my favorite of them, stereo output and produces some incredibly wet farty sounds among other things. Really should get back to messing around with it again at some point
The 6ar8 valve acts as both a vca and deflects the signal between two seperate outputs, you can control how much the two seperate deflection plates move the signal beam individually and the version I made used an ordinary double triode valve as an lfo to control the speed of the deflection. Thanks for doing this! I'm working on my own valve synth based on Eric Barbour's designs, so it was great to hear a pure valve synth to give me an idea of what I'm getting into! This is too advanced for my application, I just want a valve based Taurus foot thingy.
I dare say not that that terrible for a hand built bespoke machine that uses valves. It's out of my budget, but I think it's not that absurd for what it is and does.

the only other way i know to sync thyratron to midi is a midi to relay and i think its add lot of delay :/

The filter resonance distortion is almost SCARY. The Polivoks sounds mild (!) in comparison.
I like how you went straight into retrowave type stuff, suits it so well!
It would be interesting to do a spectral analysis on it to see how it differs from a couple of the common eurorack units. Just, you know, to see how unique it is. Just an idea of many.

I'm working on my own valve synth based on Eric Barbour's designs, so it was great to hear a pure valve synth to give me an idea of what I'm getting into! This is too advanced for my application, I just want a valve based Taurus foot thingy.
