Great comments, Warren and very pleased indeed that you responded so well to Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources, they are amongst my all time favourites. Such great storytelling, performances and the memorable score. There’s an earlier film in Berri’s filmography that I really like too, The Two Of Us (with Philippe Noiret). Very charming film….And Thieves Like Us is great. I’m sure the Radiance release mentions it but if not, it’s well worth also seeing Nicholas Ray’s They Live By Night, adapted from the same novel, and available via Criterion
Thanks Neil! I can certainly see why they are among your favourites, absolutely incredible films and vying for the very best I've seen all year. I actually just recently imported The Two of Us from Cohen media on your recommendation, so much appreciated! I really look forward to watching it soon and exploring more from Claude Berri. I had no idea The Live By Night was another adapation of the same material, thanks for that, I've wanted to see it for a while but you've stoked a fresh interest for me. I should try to get the novel as well.
Glad you loved Trust. Simple men, Amateur, Henry Fool and The Unbelievable Truth are all wonderful. Still need to rewatch Jean de Florette/Manon des Sources. Great work sir.
Thanks so much Ronin! I've actually managed to track down some older cuzon dvd copies of Henry Fool and The Unbelievable Truth, so really looking forward to checking them out. You've started me on a Hal Hartley road now, so very much appreciated.
Hi Warren great stuff as usual. Jean de Florette has been on my radar for a long time. I really need to seek out a copy. I had no idea it had a sequel. Yep Forrest Gump. Yikes.
Great video Warren 😀🍿🎸🎶 I thought ‘On Body & Soul’ was a very peculiarly interesting film; the dream sequences were beautiful & peaceful on a filmmaking level; the ending was daunting for sure! 😱 ‘Forrest Gump’ is very much divisive amongst the public domain; I absolutely love it aswell; definitely my fav Tom Hanks film followed by ‘Saving Private Ryan’; both incredible movies 😊 ‘Thieves Like Us’ was very solid mate; I may appreciate it that one more on rewatch and with the film ‘Trust’; I guess I can ‘Trust’ your word for it 😂👍 Have a fantastic weekend Warren and hope you doing wonderfully well 🙌
Thanks Sam! It's definitely a film that is still on my mind. So hard to pin down, but one that lingers with you, and totally agree, beautifully shot. Ah I need to re-visit Saving Private Ryan, I don't think I've seen that in well over a decade! Haha 'Trust' me, it's worth a watch! Have a lovely weekened too Sam!
Dont you think mia goth and Shelley duvall looks similar? Love forest gump give me sentimental all day long as its done right , ( its a wonderful life) 👍🏻🎥
There is a similiarity now that you mention it! Around the eyes a bit perhaps, and both horror icons to a certain extent. Ah I'm exactly the same, love a bit of sentimentality if it's done well.

@goosesmovies no bother. He's so underrated and one of those influential early independent filmmakers that others 'have been inspired by' haha.

Thanks Roy! Ah I couldn't recommend it more highly, it's fantastic as well as the second part.
