TLDR: My mum said I couldn't earn 6 figures, I'm not discouraged, I realised that maybe systemic racism is ourselves and our own community. The people that looked out for me in my career have been white.
Thank you for this! I'm currently job seeking internally with my company as I feel my position is not compensated as it should. I discussed this with my mum and the new salary range I want to go for. Then I said in the long term, well into the future I might consider going for 6 figures, her response was "They won't give it to you because you're black", I immediately said that's not why they wouldn't give it to me. This was a surprise as my mum had raised me to not be a victim and to not view everything through the lens of racism, this has guided me through life. I'm not discouraged by what my mother said, just annoyed now lol.
This video just made me realise, sometimes that "system" keeping us back, is ourselves. It's people around us in our own community, it can literally be us in our own head.
I started my career in Dec 2020 after graduating from university Dec 2019, and the one thing I can say is, the people that gave me opportunities, pushed me, supported me and looked out for me, have all been white.

In the company I work for most of the black engineers and accountants make 6 figures. Some are deep into the 6-figure range. One of my past mentors who is black was a distinguished engineer at our company. He was recently successfully recruited by Amazon to continue his career with them.

You can’t lean on any far side of the spectrum. You can’t deny reality or truth. Yet you also can’t lean on the world is out to get me and get me. It’s a middle ground. I know that we have evil wicked nefarious people in power in this world who’s selfishness is doing harm to the world. I don’t allow it to ruin my life experience because simply it’s nothing I can do but live.

Most small businesses fail, no matter the skin color of the owner. Around half, hopefully less at this point, of marriages fail no matter the skin color. So life is hard and unfair for everyone. But it's beautiful. So do not be afraid to take challenges and fail. Be ready to enjoy stepping on the gas in hope.

NFS Gang. Cool observation. Somewhere related, you have to play NFS Unbound, which just came out. It's so good.

This is so interesting, because I too just had a very rare period of playing NFS last month, and I rarely play any kind of racing games. Mine was NFS Heat. I love how play can give us light bulb moments like the one you shared here! I'd like to offer another thought for your consideration:
While its definitely a trap to feel like the world is against you and there's nothing you can do to improve...what if that little bit of resignation allowed you to be less tense and perform better? Just freeing yourself from the notion that "everything that goes wrong is my fault or some reflection of me" allowed you to play with house money? Because, it's not like you gave up totally. You still had enough gumption to give it a try, but you were perhaps looser and freer in your approach?

I like your analogy. I’ll just share what I tell my kids. I’m not claiming that this is the ‘right’ strategy but this is the spirit I’m being led towards. I tell them the truth. I don’t want my kids to be under the same illusions I was under. So they know from the jump that the bible is black history. 2 of them are too young for a lot of stuff right now but when old enough I’ll share more about the way the system is set up later.
I also teach them the ways by which they can still prosper as we live in ‘babylon’. I share my own story as a ‘success’ story and I hope I’m modeling what peace and joy can look like in their life. I want them to be empowered with knowledge but not in s pessimistic way. I agree that there will be some loss of motivation when you think you’ll just loose even if you try.
I was asleep to so much of how the game was played and I feel like for too long I was oblivious to what was going on around me. I have an adult son who is just as unaware spiritually as I was at his age. I didn’t tell him everything was rigged but school did and he struggles to this day. I don’t want that either for my minor children. But balancing the truth and hopefulness is the spirit by which I move in. Only God knows the outcome. I’ll let you know in about 10 years how it turns out 😅
Thanks for this video, Kimi! ❤

Teaching kids life is unfair can lead to a self fulfilling prophecy. If I tell kids they won't succeed in life and they are doomed from the start, allot of them will look at this and ask themselves "Why bother?" . Now you can argue about the success rate of someone in life that does put in hard work, and does everything to the best their ability however I think we can all agree that the success rate of those that do put in the hard work is greater then those that don't.
Yes life is unfair some people are born faster, smarter, in a better country, at the right time, wealthier or have better family conditions but we need to teach the next generation to make the most of the out of the hand their dealt.
I'd say ideally we should not teach kids about the unfairness of life when they are young, that way they can develop good habits such as work effort, trying their best ect. Then around high-school we can start to peal off the band aid but we also need to state that things will be worse if they just give up.

Kimi, what are you thoughts on the struggle between labor and capital? How does it relate to the race struggle in your opinion? Are you a capitalist? What are your thoughts about marxism? Thanks ahead
