    I flew KUL MNL MEL in JCL for AUD998. I grabbed it and those 2 flight reviews remain trending on my channel almost a year later. So I assume yours will do the same, PR videos tend to do very well. I was so impressed, except for the transit in MNL which was some of the worst I've ever experienced. I believe they have moved their international ops to T1 so that horrible T2 experience is thankfully no longer.

    Pre Covid was a big fan of PAL LHR to MNL, as you say excellent crew and service and the A350 business class seats were excellent. Best of all the only direct LHR-MNL route so around 10 hours as opposed to say 18 plus with Emirates. Did come back to a degree post Covid but few flights and an agent told me it was finished off by the closure of Russian air space, which I think killed the route commercially, although they ran it via Dubai for a bit. PAL domestically is much like all other Filipino domestic flights a disaster, great when you get on board but every flight I've been on has changed schedules multiple times and on the day often cancelled and consolidated sometimes with a very long wait. So agree A350 in business much better than Emirates on the same route but the roller coaster really dips domestically. Keep up the hard work love your channel and your independence. Can we expect some Filipino hotels soon? Going to Cebu in September and booked Dusit Thani?. Apologies if you've done them and I've missed it!

    • @tfft
      @tfft  Год назад

      No I haven't done any PH hotels yet, but am hoping to find time to do a few next year. In the past, I've always tried to find 4-5 resorts in a place to make the trip 'worth while' to me for the channel- which is difficult in PH since they have a surprising lack of high end resort assortment, but now that there is a heavy focus on flights as well, I'll be more likely to pop over (I live close) to the Philippines to check out a hotel or two. Transiting in MNL is almost always a nightmare... I hope you had a decent experience at least.
    At least now they are gradually consolidating international flights to other terminals and making T2 a domestic only terminal so hopefully international transiting would improve. I just wish they have some sort of sky train that connects all terminals.

    Recently visited the Philippines and decided to try PR in business class from Dubai to Manila. They advertise the staggered 1-2-1 configuration but I got the outdated 2-2-2. Once onboard, I noticed that crew felt a bit meh. The seat was good but no IFE on like a 9 hour flight. They did hand out iPad but no tablet holder to put it on. Lastly, my 1st meal was actually pretty good but the landing meal is something you could probably get in economy, some kind of corned beef sandwich. I much rather have picked Etihad or even Emirates on the 777, with the 2-3-2 configuration, which says a lot.

    Just a correction. PAL "hasn't flown to multiple destinations in Europe" for a long time. Remember under the EU Blacklist PAL was banned from serving Europe for a number of years. When that blacklist was lifted, around 10 years ago, PAL returned to Europe but only to a single destination - LHR. Since the pandemic started in March 2020 PAL leased its LHR slot to BA (not sure about the situation in 2023) and, a few rescue flights excepted, has not yet restarted regular flights to London.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  Год назад +3

      Wasn’t suggesting they were flying to all 9 of their previous European destinations yesterday, but rather as I said, they used to serve Europe quite well- yes most recently only to LHR- and now they don’t serve Europe at all- there are surely a variety of reasons for each route’s demise. I like PAL and over the years probably have 500k miles on them. Consistently good food and consistently excellent flight attendants. However on my last flight (Dubai to Manila in biz class), had the oddest thing ever happen to me. Seats are, believe it or not, inflatable in the airbus 330. On a packed flight I had the misfortune of having the inflating mechanism malfunction before we even left. Couldn’t hold air. So….two choices. Get off the flight or fly all the way to Manila on a metal plank. Worst flight, by far, of my life. Couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t get comfortable. Just awful. :).

    Another fantastic video, Kevin, big thank you for sharing. And for me its the more interesting as i am considering to take this flight in November on my next Asia trip. Yet, the plan would be to fly KUL-MNL-HND and the connecting time would be 1h only! Is that very risky according to your experience? Would it be better to put in one night in an airport hotel in MNL? But then the hazzle of going through immigration...Alternatively i am considerung to fly KUl-MNL Boracay and spend a few days there.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  Год назад +1

      IF it's a connection within Terminal 2 (and even better if you don't have check in baggage) then you would likely be okay, cutting it close, but okay. In my experience PR is generally an airline that does hold aircraft to wait on inbound pax on a slightly delayed flight, so if you're booking directly with PR, it might be worth the risk. As for the MNL airport hotel, I'd give a big pass on this one lol. Perhaps, if you went and stayed at one of the nicer hotels in Manila, but probably not worth your time. As for Boracay, that sounds like the best option of the three if time (and stopover rules) permit. Thanks as always for the comment! 🙏

    I was able to fly with their A350 Manila NY, and my goodness I never thought that their economy seat would be comfortable and relatively wide for an economy class configuration. To add, most of their service crew were really attentive. Hence, I was satisfied with their A350 service.

    This is also used for Manila to Japan like PR407/408 To Kansai Airport where you can connect to UA34/35 Osaka Kansai airport to San Francisco and Manila to Western Australia Perth PR220/221. The Fiesta class seats lack a power plug considering that the 5 star Airline Korean Air have both USB and Power Plugs fitted to their A321 fleets. Even the US 3 have them too. For the longhaul fleet they still lose out to Skyteam Korean Air Oneworld QR JL and CX Star Alliance OZ SQ BR and NH the Skytrax 5 star rated airlines that fly to or from Manila. Which is why you are Filipino passengers fly on out towards Europe USA Middle East. In the case of EWR/JFK SFO LAX to MNL you're better off with QR KE CX BR JL OZ and NH due to them having better service than PR.

    My main issue with PAL is the lack of IFEs in their regional routes. They proudly call themselves a four-star airline but their cabins pale in comparison to other world class SEA carriers like Singapore Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, Thai Airways, Malaysian Airlines, and Vietnam Airlines.

      Well to be fair, you mean they pay Startax to call them 4 star so they can then call themselves 4 star lol

    As I stumbled on this video and having watched your other one, I find it ironic that some of your worse PAL experiences tend to be with PAL's "better" long-haul products whereas some of your better PAL experiences tend to be with PAL's "worse" products. But yes, the crew makes or breaks the experience, and it is luck of the draw on the quality you'll get.
    Also given that you had a great lunch coming into MNL than getting out of MNL, I find it interesting too what it says about the choice of catering companies.

    When you say “no freebies”, does that mean if it’s your birthday or anniversary, you won’t tell the airline that it’s your special day cus you don’t want special day treatment to celebrate? Non reviewers sometimes tell the airline it’s a special day for them. It’s good you want to be unsponsored and anonymous, but special celebration is not an airline trying to stage for your review.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  Год назад

      Even if I wasn't reviewing an airline, I'd never inform them of celebrations like that 😅 but I understand your point, but no- I'm talking more about, upgrades or spa treatments or special dining experiences which (depending on the airline/hotel) would at some times be raining down on me if I gave them a heads up that I was flying/staying with them. What you see in my reviews is specifically what I paid for. If I ever get upgraded, it's becuase I booked a specific rate that included the chance of an upgrade, etc. Thanks for watching 🩴

    Great video as always.
    I´d rather "enjoy" headakes and adventures at NAIA than having to spend time at my home airport Stockholm Arlanda, with their extremely expensive prices and nothung to do unless you have lounge access.

    The international to international transfers should be a little easier since they are now consolidated into one terminal. That being said, my PH domestic to US international transfer was really rough earlier this month (July 2023)

      @@tfft All of PR's international flights have moved over to the older teminal 1, while all domestic flights remain at terminal 2. Its the transfer between the domestic to international flights that can be rough with all the lines and security checks.

    Appreciate the content but perhaps reminding people to like and subscribe three times is excessive and a turn off to me. You say once and people will get the message. Even better you don’t say and people will like and subscribe if they like your content. Repeated reminder doesn’t lead to the outcome you want, I think you would know that.
