Had me smiling from start to finish, amazing, he controlled his guitar like it was one of his limbs. I hope new generations of people keep stumbling onto this long into the future.

Gen Z here, literally feel like an 80 year old in a teenagers body lol😂 I can’t stand new music but anything from the 50s - 80s is music to my ears (no pun intended) Gordon Lightfoot is my favorite singer songwriter with Johnny cash being second. Chet Atkins for sure is one of if not the best guitar player along side Roy Clark or Jerry Reed!

@PiedmontProductionsOfficial great to hear from a Gen Z. I'm a Millennial. Born in 1924 Chet was the Greatest/G.I. Generation. Maybe one day a Gen Alpha will reply to this and show that Chet is still getting some air time?🤞

It's not just what he plays, but the way he plays it. So much ease, so much class. You could've woken this man in the middle of the night and put a guitar in his hands and he would still be able to play this perfectly.

Poooverty stricken but still I'm a-stickin' to the things I know to be facts
Ooone day it's feathers and the next day chicken while I'm pickin' my yakety axe
Eeev'rybody says that I never will get far, pickin' out things on this old guitar
Livin' on a shoestring, forgettin' things like a shave and a haircut
Well, Money don't matter as long as I scatter a little bit of happiness around
If people keep a grinnin' I figure I'm a winnin' with my good old yakety sound
Eeeverybody goes around turnin' up their noses , smellin' their greenbacks , countin' their roses
But I wouldn't trade my yakety axe, even for a T-bone
Iii'm confessin' I never took a lesson, all my notes are a matter of guessin'
Hopin' they'll come out in some kinda manner that'll make a yakety sound
So if you're in the mood and your feet start tappin'
And you feel laid back and your hands start clappin'
Then I'll have done what I wanted to from way back
    You're diggin' my yakety axe

On this day in 1970 {April 29th} Chet Atkins performed a medley of "Wildwood Flower", "Mr. Sandman", and "Freight Train" on the ABC-TV musical variety program 'The Johnny Cash Show'...
He released all three as singles, but none of them charted...
Between 1954 and 1980 he had nine records on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart; his biggest hit was "Yakety Axe", it peaked at #4 in 1965...
