How to Make a Basic White Sauce

  • A good white sauce is the basis for so many sauces: mustard, cheese, bacon, lasagna, mornay, etc. Make this and use as desired! :)
    Ingredients
    1 Tablespoon of Plain Flour
    1 Tablespoon of Unsalted Butter
    100ml of Heated Milk
    Salt and White Pepper (if desired)
    (In the clip I make this recipe x 4)
    Method
    1. Melt butter in a saucepan remove from heat and whisk in flour
    2. Return to slow heat and stir butter and flour mixture (rue) to cook out flour for 2 mins
    3 Pour in warm milk and whisk until milk is combined and sauce starts to thicken and is smooth.
    4. Season if desired
    5. You may then add extra heated milk to make the white sauce the consistency that you need it to be as this is a thick white sauce and you might require it to be thinner.
