She said that £40 was not a lot of money, and I was like so would you give £40 to a random person? And she was like yeah. And I told her that’s because she’s probably rich and she started going in a rant about how she was not rich at all, but her dad’s rich! Okay, but since you live under his roof and he supports you, you’re rich.

    I totally agree about Mr. Beast. Something is so off about him. Idk, he doesn't seem genuine but he knows how to present it that way. But honestly as long as he actually does good and isn't secretly doing bad stuff it's fine

    • @flonny1340
      @flonny1340 Год назад +23

      I haven't gotten to that part but I was reading the comments and for me it's the "doing genuinely good things but always publishing and monetizing it" like something about actually making public about the "good things someone does" just makes it not seem genuine at all... and to make that a career, basically 😬 it screams of "kids and immature people is my true intended audience" (and me, personally, I don't feel comfy supporting someone like that) (also, isn't he from a southern state....🤔 like that just speaks for itself honestly)

    • @CureSmileful
      @CureSmileful Год назад +34

      Like Flonny said, he always broadcasts his "good deeds" which makes him a lot of money, more than he spent and also there is a thing called charitable tax deduction. He could use that assets for more net positive outcome like advocating for public heathcare

    • @catokeeffe
      @catokeeffe Год назад +12

      Yeah, if he wanted, he could send all the money from his “good deeds” videos straight to the nonprofit he founded. That would guarantee it gets used for actual charity. He could even pay himself a reasonable salary as head of the nonprofit. But he doesn’t do that. Instead, it’s all income to him, and he gets to be rich because of it. The good deeds are just a business expense for him.

    • @miraimber
      @miraimber Год назад +8

      Saaame, not like the acts themselves he does in his videos are bad, it's good that people get the help they need. But it's the motivation behind it that is so iffy to me. Like giving money to streamers and randoms could get old and he decided to mix it up with the people in need to make even more bank. And it's not like publicizing it will inspire others when his whole brand is being extravagant with money and not at all relatable in that way. Like no one thinks if he can do this I can too. Reminds me of the old "giving money to homeless people on the street" videos but repackaged.

    • @LisaFevral
      @LisaFevral  Год назад +37

    this happens in my country as well (I'm from South America), and like you I failed to see it at first because I come from a lower income family and have always been told to look good and dress well even with the small resources we have. So when I came to college in a different city and struggled to get by and ate a meal a day basically and was called rich by people who dressed with what appeared to be less quality clothing (which spoiler alert they weren't) and who complained about having no money to go to the movies or eat or whatever, I felt really bad for them. And then one day one of those people casually mentioned they were going to spend the summer in Europe and the illusion was shattered, I looked around and saw that most people dressed like that so they wouldn't be called rich and people wouldn't judge them for having been privileged all their lives, people who used to judged me for occasionally using uber instead of public transportation actually had cars gifted to them, people who claimed they had no money to go to the movies would go to expensive pubs, and now after college they all have been traveling when I'm struggling to make ends meat. So yeah, this happens in most places, I think, and it sucks.

They prioritize their comfort over your opinion. So this is so weird lol

    oh my godddd rich people who say they're "broke" is one of my all-time pet peeves. I went to university with so many rich kids and had a similar experience to you. Especially when they do it in an ostentatious way specifically to their poor friends, as if they're saying "uwu look how responsible I'm being, I know what it's like to struggle too!" when I clearly knew they were living in nice apartments, buying expensive clothes and Starbucks and concert tickets all the time and going on holiday abroad, while I was sharing a tiny house with 6 people, struggling to afford basic groceries and wearing the same clothes I'd had since highschool. It always reminded me of this song from the 90s - 'Common People' by Pulp. I was so tempted to stick that on at a party sometime and see if anyone noticed...

I realised I'd seen those EXACT paint-splatters on a pair of designer jeans online costing like £500. Blew my mind. The whole thing was a goddamn poverty costume and it actually fooled me!!!

For them being broke means having a full fridge all the time and electricity and for trendy clothes and big apartments / houses BUT they can’t go to the cinema cause they ran out of pocket money and they would’ve to ask their parents. It’s not like I’m judging anyone for having savings since it’s there for security, I have it too. But if I have the ability to afford food and bills and still have left over money for myself, then I wouldn’t say I’m not buying something I’m just not willing to pay for because “I’m broke”. I think influencers are navigating a very gray and stinky area were reviewing and comparing/ giving a negative or positive review is left to their own morals. As a retail worker, you can brag about the proven qualities of your product or the customer reviews you collected, but you CAN’T say anything about how good or bad another brand or concurrence product is, you can be sued for this with the motive of difamation. Even if you think you are saying the truth about a product or a brand, as long as you don’t have legal and verified facts to prove you are right, you cant say anything about anythingµ. It’s tricky because influencers are talking both as a brand and as a person, and, as a brand that is in position to promote product, it would be technically illegal to talk smack about another brand to promote their own affiliate better. I don’t work in law but it feels very blurry and untrustworthy to « desinfluence » as some people are doing.😊

    But sometimes you do over pay. And big companies... they are not ethical. For instance I would rather pay David James Armsby rather than big streaming platforms like Adult Swim or Netflix who abuse their actors, animators and copyright law. If you can have a tailor make you a dress like the one you saw from Dior why not use it. But if promote smth as unethical as SheIn then I am done. Because sometimes who pays cheap pays twice. You risk your health coz they use toxic paint and what not. And the very fact that they don't do refunds is yet another alarming sign. You risk getting a clothing that tears apart after a few times you wear it. I hope such practice will not become a rule.

    I'm in the U.S. and it really is a common issue where girls and guys claim they are broke then next thing you know you meet their family and their middle class to wealthy. I had a former friend who was a master snake and we would go to the mall and she would be like I'm hungry and I'm like go get some food then.She would play the victim and I felt embarrassed for her and would cave in. I finally set a boundary and I'm like look you have a job cheaper rent and parents who care quit asking me for food and money. No joke we didn't hang out after. And for the Jeffrey star point he needs to be canceled for good. He keeps snaking bad into the beauty world and I was like noooo. They use other people's pain and struggles and sneaks back because we're more focused on their lies than his. He literally wrote the script for shady influencer. He is the kind of guy to say I'm broke and you pay for his food then make a video on how selfish you are and how you should be canceled. I do not like people who profit from other people's shame and hardships.

    I remember I found your channel when I was having some health issues and I watched too many of them [no shame]. I like how you are unique in this "mass trending" society.
    Why they all wanna look the same? I'll never understand that.
    I do tiktoks bout my opinions on different subjects [mostly in my native language: spanish] and it makes me happy how much people relate to my content BUT I'm certain I'm not the *influencer* type cause, just like you, I don't like any big popular one [i follow none]~ they're boring to me, their fake voice tones, the everything is perfect speech, the ridiculous amount of product they use, their lack of communication with followers... there's so much I do not support. I don't hate them, they're irrelevant to me.
    Anyway, I think defluencing exists but sadly isn't a "mass trend" yet cause it's mostly promoted by smaller channels.
    And, I DREAM brands would start to see us, regular people with a decent following, as faces for their products. I trust NOTHING said by someone with 1m [or way more] followers cause it's usually paid lies praising something.
    I'm hoping social media goes back to the roots of sharing actual human being experiences instead of the "perfect setting, perfect light, perfect character" online~
