Just did the oil and filter on my F22 project yesterday.
Used a Mann filter £12 from autodoc and it came with a new copper sump plug washer. Surprised ur mahle one wasn't included ??
I use Mannol 5w30 and buy it cheap on ebay. Because I service my cars every year at 8000 mile intervals I don't think I need expensive brand 😢
I always measure the oil I take out , so usually just put that back in ??
My B47 engine has a dip stick aswell so was able to check 😊

Hey @arnietwo11 hope you are doing well! Thanks for the tip, I’ll look for Mann filters first in future if they come with the sump plug seal 👍 It makes such a difference if your car has a dipstick because you can easily tip up to the right level. With electronic level check, the car has to be running to check the oil, not a good time to find out it is too low! Honestly, no idea why so many manufacturers are deleting the dipstick! Cheers, Phil

Oh and just to add, yeah, if you are changing the oil frequently, personally I think you are doing the right thing not paying top dollar for the oil. Also, I’m not convinced by 17,000 to 18,000 service intern but that’s what BMW is currently recommending for my car…

@@ReviveMyRide when I lived in Spain I had an X5 and a 1995 Fiat Barchetta. I only did about 3000 mile a year in the Barchetta but changed the oil ever year.

@@arnietwo11 It'll last forever with oil changes that frequently! but a good idea for an annual oil change regardless of miles... Little Fiat sounds like fun 👍

Nice one!. Is there any way to update the i drive system with service carried out or is this a BMW only thing?

Hi @awaywayye I haven’t done it myself but I’ve done a bit of reading and owners on the forums are saying that you need software or a device (sorry, not sure which one) to update onto the car but this is actually only one of the steps, the other step is to update the records for your car with BMW and this is a separate thins. So it’s a bit of pain. I plan on doing a bit more research on it because I would like to update onto the car if possible. Cheers, Phil

What do you do with the old oil? Any tips?

Hi, in the uk, I just take it to the local tip / recycle centre and they have big containers that I can pour my oil into. I usually wait until I have a few to do, I fill up old 5L oil bottles. Hope that helps! Maybe not if you’re in another country 🤷‍♂️ cheers, Phil
