    I heard somewhere that Gibson will offer a discount to anyone who will accept delivery of a new guitar with the headstock already broken. You can use the savings to take it to be repaired at a shop of your choice, and it will then be better than new. I think it's a great idea.

    Had my headstock repaired last year for the first time on my Gibson Les Paul Gothic! I cried! it's a 2003 and never had a repair! My sister was at my place and hit the case and bang right on the floor with the guitar in it! At least it was a clean break. My Gibson guy did a great repair! Can't tell it even happened! it was 200 bucks well spent. But still seeing that break was a nightmare!

    Nice job! I think with the clamping either using a caul, or I have seen repaired clamped by wrapping the joint with string extremely tightly? Makes sense. I'd personally use more clamps too, and also different clamps (mostly because I find those F clamps really annoying to use!).

    How much value was lost in the selling, percentwise? I have a white Vintage SG (VS6VW), a bargain from a music shop where somebody had dropped it, resulting in a nasty crack at the neck joint. I had it repaired by my luthier, he used superglue to make sure it flowed everywhere and then tightened the crack with clamps. Any future buyer will of course bid low, so it's best to just keep it.

    • @blazer6248
      @blazer6248 3 года назад +1

      Hard for you to say play, authentic? How? It's still an authentic LP. Whether Gibson or Epi, it's still authentic. It came from THE ONLY MANUFACTURER of Les Pauls on the entire planet. If you had a Chibson or a Harley Benton or any number of Les Paul clones, then your comment would make sense but as of now it doesn't. You own a Les Paul 🤣. It doesn't get anymore authentic than that unless you spend extra for a Gibson and then it's still not anymore authentic. It's just as real of an LP as your Epi.
      That's like saying you don't have a real Stratocaster because it's a Squier. And that ain't how it works. 🤔👎

    • @steveg.3022
      @steveg.3022 3 года назад

      @@blazer6248 Okay, I accept that perspective. I really like my Epi LP and I am very careful to prevent anything that might cause headstock damage. Interestingly enough I also have a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Strat I bought used and really like it. It’s hard for me to think of either of these guitars any less because they aren’t branded Gibson or Fender, but I wasn’t sure what the community at large thought.

After about 30 years of the guitar sitting in a closet, he gave the guitar to me. Of course I had it repaired. Of course it doesn't stay in tune very well, it's a Gibson. There are so many headstock repairs on utube, and they are almost all on Gibsons. It makes me wonder if there are any Gibsons out there that haven't broken?!? It's so ridiculous because Gibson knows what they need to do to make their guitars more durable, but they stubbornly refuse to alter their 70 year old design.

    Gibson really should redesign their cases. If the neck breaks it should be because the case was destroyed. I realize the neck design is more fragile, but the case should protect it during shipping and take any damage from rough handling.

    I don't play authentic, I'm still not good enough.
    And I don't like rock'n roll, I'm totally into Rock music, can't serve two masters.

    If Gibson were building cars NO ONE would buy them. These designs are so flawed and obsolete yet they are so stubborn to change them. I just don't understand it. Mistakes aren't "tradition".

      If they were building phones that shattered every time you dropped one, they'd do fine... and be Apple.
