I'm not going that far, lol. I think the right story, in the right hands, in this universe, could be FANTASTIC. And I used to think Sir Ridley HAD to be the guy. Prometheus was a nice try, but it never went anywhere with the true horror, and the android origins were just CRAP. So, I LOVE what Fede is saying and doing so far, and I am VERY confident this one is going to be the best one since the original. A true sci fi horror movie that is worthy of being in this universe. But...IF it is not, you can bet I will still be there for the TV show, for the next one, the next one, and the next. I saw the original IN THE THEATER in 1979 after begging my mum for MONTHS to take this little kid to his first "R' rated movie, and she did, with a group of friends for my birthday. And THAT hatched a love with this franchise that has NEVER ceased. I LOVE it. I LOVE Giger. It is an amazing amalgam of art, science, and grotesque. I'll never give up. I'm a true Alien fan. True Fans aren't "wishy-washy" and come and go with the tide. True fans are there for each and every thing and evaluate each and every release in said universe on its own merits, not to give up. Casuals do not. So you either are a fan, or you aren't, and that's all there is to it.

I don't really understand what is meant by alien covenant not respecting the Canon. The Canon was created by ridley Scott together with H R giger and Shushett and o banon ,the original writers of alien . The derelict, space jockey, face hugger , xenomorph all their ideas . There was no suggesting in the original alien of an alien planet . That was the concept created by dark horse comics with their Canon based off the original movie . And we do see in the romulus official trailer what appears to be someone holding Vials of the black goo which most likely are directly linked to prometheus and Covenant. Lets clear the air here about the Xeno incubation times.
In ALIENS, when Ripley goes off on the Marines she says and i quote, "Just 1 one of these things managed to wipe out my entire crew in less than 24 hours" which implies that from the time Kane got facehugged to the time she blew Big Chap out the air lock, it had only been 1 day.
If we take ALL the Canon across all the movies involving Xenos.... Compared to OG ALIEN, AVP and Covenant were sped up for sure..... but.....
If we take into account what Fede says about DNA differences, then every time a Queen comes forth and spawns a new hive, across god knows how many years that Xenos have been around... Every hives incubation cycle across generations, DNA, and time, would potentially change how fast the facehugger implants and dies, how fast the chestburster developes and kills host, and finally how fast it would molt into its adult form.
Just food for thought if all that i said makes sense to anyone.

    • @DarkLadyAthena1
      @DarkLadyAthena1 2 месяца назад +2

It can also involve the species that becomes the hosts for these things. In the dog (the theatrical version of Alien 3), the development looked fairly quick and the chestburster looked larger. Maybe in species like a dog that are born or grow quicker, the gestation period is quicker.

Its interesting that he said that the Chest Burster Cycle would be more like ALIEN..... which implies that the Crew are stranded on the Station for a while... or the Chest Burster happens at a latter point than we may assume

This is very good news - it's also a good example of what all filmmakers/showrunners should be doing, when they end up working in an existing franchise. This, 'we didn't want the writers to know any of the lore' crap needs to stop. Do I think, sometimes, folks can offer a fresh perspective on something? Yeah, we should have that. But if it directly contradicts what exists, that's not a fresh perspective, it's just ego and/or laziness.
I also want to point out that this director knows that you are always selling your film, even when you're answering questions or making posts on X. He's not talking about how this movie breaks traditionalism or associating it with modern politics. Instead, he's talking about things he knows fans of Alien(s) want to hear. So many of these ideologues-pretending-to-be-creatives could learn something from this guy.

Well at least the female lead/survivor with a pulse rifle or flamethrower. After Star Wars:TFA, I learned not to trust anyone or any previews that'll tease nostalgia.
That and this movie should have been more like Alien in the way that we don't know which characters will survive and not make it more about another female lead. But again , remains to be seen.

Good horror movies don't have incompetent characters(unless you're trying to go for a more of a slapstick comedy horror film). Films like Aliens, Aliens, The Thing(1984), Predator, etc were good horrors because the characters were competent which made for better and more realistic scenarios, therefore better entertainment.

The TRUE creatives can create Excellence with a low budget just as well as with a higher budget, and PROBABLY MORE and BETTER with the lower budget. The stress and need to exercise even FURTHER creativity to meet those lower budgets, in the hands of the "good ones", generally leads to amazing results. I am MORE excited with each and every thing i read on this one. And I am SOOO happy that they didn't decide to "Hulu-ize" this release like they did to Prey. That sort of disrespect only disrespects audiences and LOSES audiences. This is great news. Fede seems like an easy going guy. A sci-fi nerd. I hope the film is great.
However I would not like it to break away from the mythos of Prometheus and Covenant. The latter messed up the lore but in the additional scenes, it is clear that David did not create the Xenomorph. Having the god complex he has, he fashions himself as such because he cannot fathom that he is just as flawed as his creators.
The new comics keep the black goo and so on. I think Romulus still does. By no means am I saying give it all to Ridley and have it focus on the androids like he wanted, but create a balance like the first two alien films did. I think Fede could create that balance. After all, it keeps the cosmic horror element because we still do not know what the Alien is. Where it comes from, and that speaks to elements of the universe being this unforgiving and cold space where horrible dangers lurk and await us.

I actually have good hope for this. The trailers were fantastic. Though i honestly don't really vibe with the teenager movie concept, it doesn't really bother me too much either. After all, we've had the 'space miner cowboys' in Alien 1. We had the badass soldier marines in Alien 2. We had the 'crazy convicts' in Alien 3. And we had the mad scientists gone way too far in Ressurrection. Then we had the AVP movies, which unfortunately, had a very solid and great base, but were just way too much made for gamer nerds, and that's not what the OG or Alien was about. AVP2 was like an ever worse sequel to that, and is just, well, no words.
It should have had a proper reboot with Prometheus, but, the problem was, that Prometheus wasn't supposed to be that but it became that instead. Which is why i have a love-hate relationship with it. Prometheus as a story itself is absolutely phenomenal, and even the concept of expanding it into the Alien universe is not bad at all, it was just executed poorly.
Covenant could have been great too, but the pacing indeed was all over the place, and i hated the david x2, x2, which really just ruined the whole vibe. They made it about Fassbender. Honestly, at some point all you're seeing is just Michael Fassbender acting. It wasn't even Alien or Prometheus anymore, all it was was just Fassbender role playing in a fantasy setting in the Xenoverse, and they also violated the lore of what made Alien 1 so damn special, the mystery. The idea that it's fossilized and perhaps thousands of years old made it so much more thrilling, especially from a philisophical standpoint.
Now, at the same time, back in the day, i was a bit bummed about how that also led to Blomkamp's potential Alien 5 movie to be both retconned and scrapped. In hindsight, i'm actually really glad.
Because though Blomkamp has some nice movies, i don't think he's a match for the Alien universe. And it really was just repeating something that has been done before, and likely just blending it with what he has done before with the Aliens in South Afirca movie and the Elysium movie. And somehow, i think that would have made it far too much, again, a blend-mix-repeat of everything instead of something new, exciting, and valuable.
One of the reasons i thoroughly disliked Prometheus and Covenant, but more the first, is because Scott just started being all up and arrogant about his 'own' movie when Prometheus truly is nothing but a 90% repeat of Alien Vs Predator, just without the preds and on another planet. It really lacked originality. It just looked great.
I think a Blomkamp Alien movie would actually have been a nail in the coffin and ruined the franchise forever.
If we instead look at the absolutely mesmerizing jaw-to-the-floor writing and execution of the game 'Isolation', that's exactly how it should be done. That was creative and told a 'new' independent story whilst respecting evertything. It touched everything too, including the androids, which only point of criticism was that they got a bit predictable at some point and lacked variety, especially in physical design.
The 'Prey' movie recently as a Pred-reboot, showed that it can have success. Even as a reboot. It respected the origins wonderfully yet was very creative and new. It was not perfect, but let's be fair, which movie is, and neither was Alien 1, Alien 2, or Predator 1 or Predator 2 for that matter.
I am really happy that they took the Alien Isolation concept, and actually really applied it. Essentially we're seeing Sevastopol station, but named Romulus instead. I love the lore and mythical name and design, and the dark, corridor, environment.
It doesn't really bother me that it's kids, because it isn't really kids. It's part of the universe, and it's following the characters. I like how it tells an independent story that happened between Alien 1 and Alien 2 and we had no clue. As far as we were aware, nothing happened between A1 and A2, but this is gonna show a very different story, and also opens up that there was more behind it regarding A1 just the same.
That said, i must say that 1 big flaw has already been spotted imho. And that's when the facehugger clings on to the face of one of the girls, and how she falls back. One one hand, it looks like a very cool latch-on, but the problem is how she just immediately freezes and falls to the back, right on the back of her head. Quite factually, falling LIKE THAT on the back of your skull, that 'rigid' is 100% going to cause severe head injury. like really, that's gonna cause a skull fracture, and it makes no sense that she falls like that.
A grab to the face with her hands, shortly, and 'covering' her fall to then very quickly get subdued, would have been fine. that's a minor 'criticism' though.
    I'm still excited.
