It's a damn cruel world we live in that this was never ported to the Saturn or Dreamcast. These sprites are amazing. I might even like the way the environments here better than in OutRun 2

OutRunners looked or seemed inferior vs in Out Run 2
Honestly one of the best arcade racers like ever
And one of the most underrated racing games of all time. I can understand not appealing to the Sega Genesis version; it gets annoying having to steer to only one angle because of the buttons, but when you play the arcade version with the steering wheel, it's much more fun, IMO.

Out of all Sega arcade games, this one will always have a special place in my heart! I met my first love while playing it...the one that got away. The game was awesome too, a real speed rush. Remember wanting to own that arcade cabinet. Then found the genesis version and was so dissapointed.. Damn, if only they had released it on the CD instead!

Oh my god, the memories. I used to play this ALL the time in my local arcade. Only beat it once, though. They had the difficulty turned up pretty high. I should get MAME and play this again.

I fondly remember playing this when I used to go in the arcade when my parents took me on holiday. I loved this game with a passion! Thank you for taking me back to a wonderful time!

And looking at Mad Power, the male of the duo looks like Michael Jackson as he appeared in the Moonwalker arcade game. Don't know who the female is, though.
@@jeremyriley1238 If you look below in the comments, I posted an updated version of this one about two years ago because youtube comment posting was different back then. I had to post in two separate comments because of that 10 years ago. Here's what I said with the updated version noting I couldn't find the source to support it.
Mad Power - Lambo Diablo - Lisa Marie Presley\Micheal Jackson (In an article after MJs death, Lisa was quoted for having driving around MJ in Lambo Diablo during their relationship. MJ didn't like driving either and I can't find the article on the internet even at the time of my original post.)
So yeah you're right it's MJ. Some people still gravitate to this original comment because they assume it's all I have. Just about every character and car combination is based on a real life persons or in the case of two cars historical fictional characters.
Definitely a great outrun sequal. Same engine but improved number of sprites, digital sounds and large background scenery.
It used Sega System 32 wich is more powerful than older original OutRun/X board.

I used to play this a lot in my local arcade when I was a kid. For a boy who loved geography and cars and driving, this was the perfect game in the arcade.

I wish there could be some sort of real "Outrunner´s Race", maybe not around the world, but with that same vibe and the guitar solo playing in the end as the winner and losers are pranked / saluted like that, would be awesome!
nostalgia... I lost so much money at this arcade and never finished it. Force feedback was soo strong, I was 9 or 10.

It was seriously ten-plus years after this thing came out that I realized the characters weren’t based on anything. Like, my 90’s kid brain concluded that anything so weird and specific as the driver pairings had to be from a cartoon or comic or something.
Probably just a result of staying up to watch “Speed Zone” one too many times.
If only today folks knew how hard it was to pull off curves like this dude is doing with the Bad Boy...

Jogaço... Eu costumava jogar isso na minha infância no meu mega drive(aquele que não vinha com cartucho, vinha com alguns jogos dentro dele) e eu zerei o modo original derrotando o carro do virtua racing com o Mad Power... Bons tempos que não voltam mais...

First time I saw Arcade version was on youtube. In amy teenies I thought there was only mega/genesis version. The music playing on car selection is awesome/wonderful.

I've always pictured a sequel to this game as Outrun 3. Give it the same vibe of a competition between 8 or so street racing couples from all over, in a rally around the world. Each of them with their own cool style, story, and genre of music. Have it so that between regions you could talk to the other competitors and upgrade your car with winnings, get story beats based on how well youre doing, etc. It would basically be Outrun meets Ridge Racer Type 4. There's still so much potential in the arcade racing genre.

Wild Chaser was my favorite. Top speed on the road was 260. But it was an off road buggy. So I was able to take Wild Chaser off the road. If there were no obstacles, that was an additional 15 to the top speed making it 275.
Wild Chaser is Slowest car (if not off-roaded) in the game :)

I remember this game from NJ in 1994. Stole a LOT of wins from faster racers on Quick Reactor.
Nos anos noventa não se falava disso, mas o carro mais poderoso, com uma música marcante, e um visual maneiro é dirigido por uma mulher. Esse jogo tinha toda pauta progressista, apesar de não precisar jogar na cara de ninguém.
The town in Mediterranean/Greece stage reminded me of Anthropophagus :) that's a helluva horror movie

dios era re divertido este juego
one issue with all these outrunner videos on youtube. they are missing car animations because they arent using analog control. the turning is instant instead of smooth. wanna see smooth turning look at the genesis version that took into concideration of digital control, or an actual arcade cabinet
:o what rom do you use to play as a stand alone machine? (the rom I dave plays the game in 2p splitscreen always for some reason :/)

sadly in this arcade version you can`t but if you play an early version of this game you can unlock a secret car. the formula car from virtua racing.
Man, OutRun got _24_ ports. Yes, twenty four! And OutRunners only got a (very lame, specially considering the system capabilities) port on Genesis...
Why was this never released anywhere else at all?
So bad that Outrunners wasn't ported to Saturn/PSX or Dreamcast. A lost chance, btw Gen port is not terrible if we count exclusive the Extra mode and the Virtua Racing Formula

Daytona USA 2 is in the same boat, No Home Ports or getting the same treatment that happened with PSN and Xbox Live for the original Daytona USA

Hey guys, is it too dificult to configure a steering wheel in MAME? I've tried to play some racing arcade classics with an analog joystick and it was a freaking disaster.

The sprite animation on the arcade version of the game is phenomenal. Did this ever get a port to 7th gen consoles?
Ashwath Nair Had a Genesis port which forced a split-screen vs. mode even if playing 1 player. And apparently the CPU would never ever botch. They might run slower, but they’d never screw up a turn.

Em algumas versões do MAME tem a opção de muda para uma tela isso fica nas opções de vídeo, faz tempo que fiz essa game play mas acho que foi no MAME32
@@OldGamerJC Consegui colocar uma tela só e o jogo roda a 60fps normal mas o som ta duplicado ou com lag mesmo eu tendo removido o som da segunda tela,vc sabe oq pode ser ? E a propósito vc joga muito bem,nunca consegui terminar uma corrida kkkk sempre paro na 4° ou final stage kkk.

So the guy tried to ask out the lady after she won, but as we can see, she is clearly taken. She deemed it disrespectful to ask her out when she clearly has a partner. She throws that guy and kisses her man to prove that she is clearly in a relationship and has no interest leaving him. Done :)
