TrueNAS 13 VNC - Failed to connect to server / VM won't install

- Tune in next time where I spend 6 hours trying to install a Minecraft server, and it turns out I spelled a word wrong
TrueNAS is not for the faint of heart
Here's the related JIRA ticket: jira.ixsystems.com/browse/NAS... Наука
If you run a lot of VMs, I would definitely recommend against running TrueNAS 13 for now as you can only have 1 VM per VNC port, which means you can only view 1 VM at a time
How can I make this work with more than one VM? Swapping port numbers around doesn't help on the 2nd VM.
@@odinsbeard4775 I don't think it's possible to have more than running a time.
Here's the relevant ticket: jira.ixsystems.com/browse/NAS-115962
Their solution is to upgrade to the nightly build, but I'm not too sure how to do that.
Ctrl-f "VNC" here: www.truenas.com/docs/core/corereleasenotes/
@@SomethingAzn Thanks for the information. I may attempt to upgrade to a nightly build. If that fixes it, I'll share my work. Otherwise we'll have to wait until U1 comes out next month.
VMs for me are 95% of the time headless after initial installation of OS. You can always run a VNC service if not just SSH on the OS itself. Sounds like you depend on the bhyve integrated VNC too much. It's most likely a problem with software firewall not opening a port besides the standard for VNC(5900). For real though thanks for the tip, it makes sense and I didn't think to try it.
Once again, Azn coming in clutch! Thank you!
Mate thank you! I've been tearing my hair out trying to figure this out, changing the port worked instantly. Cheers
YOU ARE MY HERO
I've been at it for two days straight!! And I have TrueNAS for 3 days... First day was having internet problem with the DHCP ( I set a reservation on my DHCP server but it didn't arrived haha ). I think I've had the same ethernet problem on my H270 motherboard, but haven't seen THAT video yet. An external USB-RJ45 adaptor 'fixed' the problem
Thanks!!!!!
I’ve been trying for like a month and just gave up YOU ARE MY HERO FOR THIS VIDEO THX THX THX
I have been using TrueNas for almost a year now and I have made many VMs. All of a sudden I couldn't connect to them anymore and I could not figure out what was the matter. YOU SAVED ME!! Thank you so much
Big thanks, my old VM going back now :-)
Thanks for taking the time and effort to put this up. got me up and running
Thanks! definitely helped out! Thought I did something wrong, will be downgrading to 12 so I don't run into more issues later down the road.
You just saved my life. Who knew you could change the CUSTOM port number. o.O IX needs to get a grip. :P
Seriously. Honestly no idea how the person figured out the workaround
@@SomethingAzn the random ports work fine on 12u. Getting the thing setup is a nightmare though. I can't do port forwarding.
4 hours later found this video you are a god
Thanks bruh! Would have taken me forever to figure it out so luckily my first search led me straight here.
Holy crap that was needlessly frustrating thanks been trying to find a workaround for 2 hours I was about to give up workaround worked
Can't say thank you enough. Got me up and running.
Dude, you rock!! Thanks that sorted my issue.
Thanks to my google search and your wonderful video i got it working . Good format for a video. Talking about the problem and showing the solution. Simple!
You're a hero
Thank you. It worked. I'm newbie, I never would have found out why lol.
Not all heroes wear capes.
HERO!
Thank you so much! i had this issue after updating to truenas 13.
Hey - thank you. This just saved me some time.
This is still a problem in version 13 RELEASE. wtf
Thank you so much.
Ran some updates and this seems to be fixed in version "TrueNAS-13.0-U1.1"
🙏 King
Thanks mate. You are Legend
That helped, Thanks for the info!
Dude, thanks so much!
clutch video, thank you
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I used Scale for my homelab and had no issues. Thought I'd use Core at work (since it's supposed to be more stable and reliable) and get this crap...
Maybe I should just use Scale everywhere?
THX finally i can use it XD
thank you so much it works
Thank You!
Thanks bro :)
THANK YOU!
Well this helped a lot, I guess this is want happens when you try a DIY solution.
Thanks!
Thank you!!!!!
❤❤❤
The same thing happens to me but it won't let me turn off the virtual machine, I restart TRUENAS and it turns off, I change the port to 5900 and start it but it keeps giving me the same error, I don't understand why.
Thank you for this. Helped me out.😃
worked for me
thanks
Lovelly video but this unfortunally did not solve my issue. I set the port to 5900 and it changes to 5800 in the browser randomly so. Putting in 5900 gives me a can't connect to host.
setting it to 6000 gives me an infinite loading screen...
Yeah the port number in the URL is also bugged. It’ll be 1000 less than the port you set. Mine’s could still connect even if it says 5800 in the URL
@@SomethingAzn in my case it is 100 less
@@bartatgier2453 Right, anyways, yeah, the port number you set and the one in the URL won’t match in this version but it should still work
Keep it set to 5900 for now but it sounds like a different problem in your case
Just installed Truenas 13 U2 and changing the port did not work for me too.
Doesn't work.
same problem but dont work
Yeah, honestly, just stick with version 12 for now. I might downgrade soon
Yep, same issue, still stuffed, personally dont think it should of been added to the 13.0 STABLE train, clearly not stable !! unfortunately upgraded my ZFS, stupidly, so cant go back
@@brandonchappell1535 Yeah, I'm a brand new user and only chose 13 because I didn't think such a critical feature wouldn't work
@@SomethingAzn been at it a few years myself an honestly dont kno why i keep updating, nearly everytime u update it breaks all ur shit, or they change type jails, or way shit runs. Get it stable n leave it! ..Force of habit from gaming i guess
