I wish you would use a more charitable title for Declan's call. He seemed like he was seeking answers as best he could for his situation, no need to make fun of him for the sake of clickbait.
Lots of nails on the head in this show. Especially the part where the church prefers people not reading the whole bible, and didn't even teach reading in the old days.... Why would any organisation prefer keeping their members ignorant eh? Reading the bible without being manipulated to skip over parts, making notes and asking questions is still the best way to get free of religion. Which is kinda hilarious when you think of it. The only source is also the best way to stop believing it......
His appearance on this show made me sub to his channel and I'm so happy I did. His content isn't anything I haven't heard before but he puts it across with such enthusiasm and in such a simple way that it's refreshing. Keep it coming Forest!
@@MrPittleLenis He is the kind of teacher that you would get A's in his courses even if you had no initial interest in the subjects. My 10th grade geometry teacher did that for me and I ended up doing well in a technical field. I was close to flunking math due to lack of interest and if I had it doesn't seem likely I would have even gone into a technical field.
Forrest needs a similar show of his own. He's the reason why The Atheist Experience has been getting more views. Respectful, intelligent, funny, and just so fun to watch
I sincerely hope that one day Declan finds his way out of the mental darkness caused by his religion. He sounds like a genuinely nice guy and was very keen to learn from Matt and Forrest!
i hope Declan joins some of the chats so he can talk to others that were in the same place he is currently in. we know its a struggle to let go of that "something good happened therefore god" mentality, but he really seemed open to hearing the truth and learning about how atheists arent "the devil"(because mama said). completely agree with everything you say M.G.B... he sounds like a nice guy to grab a beer or 2 with and "shoot the shit" as they say
So many Theists always seem to have this assumption that our scientific understanding has reached its absolute pinnacle, and if we can't _currently_ explain something then we never will. It's so bizarre to me.
I have replied with similar. But the known laws (observations) of physics are well known. Are there other unknown laws? You could admit it's likely due to science being so young. However I doubt it's magic or claimed Gods. More likely it's quantum or something unseen. We withold belief on things unseen, but could guess ideas. At this stage all claimed Gods are not even at the hypothesis level. Therefore we withold belief on them, if exist in the first place.
A lot of theists also probably thought we reached the technological/scientific peak back in the 1300's, and even to this day most theists believe armageddon will come in their lifetime. I feel like those two factors really say a lot about religion
Forrest brings so much to the table. I’m a huge Matt fan and have been watching him for years. But Forest is a close second and he and Shannon make an outstanding tag team.
In spite of rather different personalities, Matt and Forrest seem to be an excellent match at the intellectual and psychological levels. Therefore, the resulting harmony offers a comfortable, stimulating and positive ambience, that facilitates communication and interaction with callers.

@Gary Allen when it was rammed into your head for 20-30 years that the bible is perfect and its a sin (remember sins make you go to the bad place) to question it. acceptance and fear make lots of people do wrong things.
@Gary Allen But you have to keep in mind that most Christians, and even more so Catholics, don't actually read the bible. I was in the same boat. You go to church and they put certain passages up to "learn" from. You get the idea that everything in the book is around about the same, but when they decide to actually read it it will throw them for a loop. My story is that I was a "born again christian". I couldn't fathom why people didn't believe so I decided to rewrite and paraphrase the scriptures so that people could understand it more easily. Well... by the time I got out of Genesis I was thinking "Wow! This is totally messed up!" And I continued to read it, but stopped the paraphrasing portion. By the end of the third book I didn't belive anymore. This was after being told what it supposedly says and going to church for 25 years. Bottom line is they don't actually want people to read the bible. They want us to take their word for it and brainwash the population. It's sad really.
@joeedwards4037 string theory is very difficult to understand. However the resurrection story is even more difficult to understand since there's three version of the story in the same bible.
On personal testimony - I was born into a Catholic Family. I remember sitting in the pews of the church feeling a radiant joy knowing that I was a part this larger consecrated (maybe that’s the wrong word) community, and knowing that God understood everything I was going through and loved me. But then I read the bible for myself and started down the path of losing that faith. Many years after I gave up belief in god I had an equally intense experience of joy and a feeling of profound connection to the universe. We are the conscious part of the universe, that part of the universe that contemplates its own being. And we are literally made of star dust. Same feeling of connection. Same joy in belonging. Sublime experience does not require religion. It requires a moment of realization (true or imagined) of how you are connected to the world around you, a part of something larger than yourself. It can be delusional. Sikhs, Muslims, Mormons, Shintoists, Protestants, Hindus, they all experience the same thing and they can’t all be right when many of their belief systems depend on the others being wrong. It’s a human thing, not a God thing.
He has his own channel too, it's well worth subscribing to. He may even show up at a shool near you to give a science presentation! The man is very busy and puts his all into science communication, as well as shooting down science denial.
I was in a similar position to Declan a few years ago and I'm so glad Forrest and Matt were gentle with him. I went through the vast majority of my deconstruction alone and I wish I had known this community existed then.
Exact same here. was 25 years a christian. Living abroad, was made redundant, then covid happened so plans put on hold, then rushed to hospital with heart failure.. machine that goes beep etc, out of hospital and I reached for my bible. I read mark, then went to acts, and I was like.. wow.. this makes no sense. Emailed a preacher at home, asked him questions.. answers made no sense. That was my start. Few months later, I decided I was an aethiest, and I felt totally free. Shows like this are fantastic for helping folk. 😂😂👍🤝
Sorry, When I say I decided I was an aethiest, thats not correct. I should say, I realised there is no god, there cant be a god. So I accepted the label 👍😂
@@TheScotsalan Hi Alan. That is a really dramatic story and the exact opposite of the "no atheists in a fox hole " theory. Have you thought of giving a fuller account of your experience? @@martifingers Hey Marti. I dont think its dramatic at all. We are all gonna have health issues 🙁. Anxiety yup. But for me, in my deconversion it was fear. No idea if you are deconverted, but if so you prob had that same thing. The realisation that you are not a grain of sand on the proverbial beach, but that you are just a bunch of signals rattling around in that evolved brain. Fear and lonliness, knowing that to take that step to the real truth, the actual freedom of being enlightend, we have to accept that when those signals stop rattling around in that old lump of grey matter we carry about, then thats it. Then one day, I woke up in that plastic chair, covered in mosquito bites, a street cleaner poking me with her broom.. and I said wow, I feel free. And the first thing I done.. went home, got my comforting bible out.. and I read it from genesis to numbers..and I said.. what a total load of crap 😂😂😂. Ohh, dont know if you had same as me, but when deconverted, you lose cognative disonnece. You cant lie to yourself about anything any more 👍👍. All the best fella.
You’re too ignorant to understand the deeper teachings of the Bible: “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” - 1 Cor 1:18. Since you don't understand the Bible, your emotions are unfounded and your reasoning irrelevant. The bible is pretty clear that without the Holy Spirit, you wont understand the wisdom of the word.
Im going tp rearrange his quote; " IF people's ideas are ridiculous , then the whole point of logical thinking is to discredit their bad ideas." Just want to fix that sentence because its definitely not the whole point of thinking. There's plenty of other uses for thinking.
@Nathaniel Elderwood "with things that are supernatural" Do you have any evidence there is such a thing? Also: It has nothing at all to do with Atheism, as an Atheist can believe in "the supernatural"! The very definition of Atheist is "Someone who does not believe in god/gods" and nothing more! It says absolutely nothing about what they do believe in, as long as it's no gods, and there's all kinds of other stuff besides gods that are claimed to be supernatural, and not one of them is based on viable evidence, but rather a lack thereof, with people making the logical fallacy of believing that without evidence or proof of something, they can just claim what it is! Well, it just doesn't work that way, and in doing so they are claiming to know the unknowable, or know something without any evidence, which is not knowledge at all, it's BELIEF!
I want to applaud Declan for his call. That was one of the best, most honest, and sincere calls from a caller to the show for a long time. I feel that he is genuinely searching for a true path to his life and we should all be supporting him in that endeavour. Heck, I sure didn’t have my life worked out at 31. Matter of fact, as a non-active formerly religious person, I was still under the brainwashed garbage indoctrination of religion, thinking that I was somehow a ‘not right’ person and that I was probably going to be judged for that later on by ‘god’ . I can’t express enough how much that sort of fear indoctrination affects your entire life. It took a few more years for me to wake up to the fact that ALL of it was nothing but utter garbage that had no evidence to support it, and that had wasted years of my life which I can’t ever get back. I am genuinely grateful every single day that I am no longer fooled by religion’s bullsh*t and that I can live a normal life, the way that it should be. I genuinely hope that Declan can get to a similar place and not have any more time wasted in his life.
Gotta give him props for even calling (when his parents aren't there) as he sounds pretty devout but yeah, It's perplexing how someone can think ANOTHER PERSON'S actions are evidence of a god. Fear, indoctrination and delusion are powerful and sad things. Good call though and I hope Declan keeps asking questions and gets out of his religious bubble.
How to break a skeptics worldview. 1. Ask them where "they" are located in their body/brain. 2. They say that "they" isn't located in any one place. "They" is a collection of many different atoms all arranged in a certain way. 3. Explain to then that this means they believe there's more to the universe than matter, there's also ways of arranging the matter which are real (otherwise they themselves are not real). Tell them that this arrangement, in the traditional Christian sense, would be called the matters spirit. 4. The atheist now has been following and nodding but they hear the word spirit and they immediately forget that I just explained what a spirit was and they revert back to their idea of a spirit and respond with "prove spirits exist". 5. I can never get the idea into their head that they conceptualize spirits wrong because they're stuck like a broken record player and they can't understand "the thing you want me to prove the existence of doesnt exist because you don't properly conceptualize spirits". 6. But they couldn't understand so their worldview is NOT shattered. 7. But it should have been... This method works really well if you find the 1/1000000 who isn't closed minded beyond belief.
Declan's mistake is in thinking his coincidence constitutes evidence. But coincidences are only exceptional to the people who experience them. The rest of us see them as just another outcome. How many people are just like Declan, with a poor relationship with their father and where the relationship doesn't improve at just the right time? What does their lack of coincidence prove?

"Science of the gaps" always makes me groan. Innovation, technology, and knowledge grow by leaps and bounds everyday. Religion is as static as it was the first time someone spun up the story. I'll patiently wait for the truth, thanks.
Suggestion: Whenever someone brings up one of laws of thermodynamics, ask them what that law says. When they can't even describe it properly (such as that the first only applies in a closed system), tell them to actually look it up and call back when they can describe it properly. It's _such_ a waste of time listening to them blunder about and ignore or misunderstand your corrections (which can all too easily be due to the "on the air" and confrontational situation). Get them to try to understand the basis of their own arguments in a less stressful environment.
great idea. we need to do this with quantum mechanics and string theory and basian analysis etc etc too - some general principles. Then when they fail - tell them to go and educate themselves before they come on and make fools of themselves.
I agree it is frustrating and probably a better way for the specific caller to learn but it does give the hosts a chance to explain it properly to all the other viewers who don't understand it.
Just like any other science it is "some theological lies/misunderstanding of science therefore god". Whenever a theist talks science on internet you know it is wrong understanding of science.

How does someone go about 'intellectually' proving God of the Bible exists - or, conversely, intellectually prove He does not? Is either even possible?
@@wwlib5390 Yes. We simply observe the facts. I've been proving God's existence for 50 yrs. I'm sure you having been proving an atheist cause for this world's universe AT ALL. Prove me wrong. We both know that you have no RATIONAL/POSSIBLE, step-by-step atheist explanation for reality. That's because there isn't one. That's because God is real. REALITY is FINITE/DYING - not evolving/gaining information; thus, REALITY requires an INFINITE/NON-DYING CAUSE (God). It's just that simple. These facts above demonstrate why atheism is a lie and why GAINS OF INFORMATION are NEVER OBSERVED or POSSIBLE (e.g. big bang, abiogenesis, mistakes (mutations) gaining in complexity/new information, star formation, evolution). Try to learn.
Just as I thought: no answer. God is not found by showing any 'intellectual hustle'. He is found by wisdom - having a little and seeking more. John 3 16 - simple yet profound - invites all to know God's love and promise.
I grew up in Texas, and have believed in evolution for a long time, but I stuck with my religion. Now that I'm free from that delusion, I need forrest to do a full lesson on evolution and the orgins of humans, nice and in depth. I never learned it in school.
Andrew-ME - Once something that is assumed, or imagined, to be supernatural is found to exist, it creases to be supernatural. If a god can exist eternally, that means that something can existed eternally and no god required. To say otherwise is special pleading.
Interesting to note in the comic Superman- his incredible ability to fly , not be harmed by projectiles stop time etc… was never ever thought to be divine by anyone on the comic planet- they just knew he was different

@@Spiritof_76 I simply know more than you. That's why I've TOTALLY DOMINATED this entire channel for 5 yrs now. I don't always know where I learned the facts, but they are visible to anyone who wants to observe those facts: The FINE-TUNING argument destroys atheism when you investigate it’s depth. Not only is there 100+ entities created/designed by God to sustain life, but he had to fine tune them all to support life or life would not survive: What if wind was a constant 300 mph? What if you had no feet or they hurt so bad that you couldn’t walk? What if you had no emotions or your only emotion was extreme hatred? What if there was no food or plenty of food, but you had no mouth or anus? What if gravity was so strong that you couldn’t move? What if there was no sun or the sun was too close or too far away? What if radiation on earth stayed at a deadly dose? What if the entire earth was a ph of 1+ (stomach acid)? What if there was no sound or sound was so loud & constant that no life could survive? What if there was no water? What if there was water, but it was impossible to make it potable (drinkable)? What if disease was so strong that no human life could survive? What if predators were so strong & fast that no human could survive? What if there was no rain or it never stopped raining, so that no life could survive? What if there were no plants or plants didn’t exist to provide us oxygen to breathe? What if we didn’t have our 5 senses? We couldn’t survive. What if the 2nd law was too strong and we died quickly? What if there was no food chain? What if there was no gender or no opposite sex? What if there was no attraction for the opposite sex? What if there was no such thing as reproduction? What if we had no legs or they were too short? What if we were too violent, so that we murder each other every day? What if we didn’t have a digestive system or had one that didn’t work? What if it was impossible to stay warm? What if UV light was too strong? What if there was no light ever and we couldn’t never see anything? What if the atmosphere gases were all poisonous & we couldn’t survive? What if the smell of earth was too pungent to allow life? What if our bodily energy was too weak for us to survive? What if there was no reason to live? No quality of life possible? What if we had no bodily systems or they wouldn’t function? What if it was impossible for us to communicate w/ other humans? I just named 33+ entities that are not only created/designed by God, but FINE-TUNED also. And I could name a 1,000 if I wanted. So 1,000 entities and then all 1,000 being fine-tuned = the degree of difficulty of hitting a 1,000 number lottery, which is impossible. Today, lotteries don’t go over 7 numbers, because an 8 number lottery is approaching the IMPOSSIBLE. So a 1,000 numbered lottery is IMPOSSIBLE no matter how many times you try. This is proof that only God could have created/designed the many entities we see today and then fine-tuned them for life. Atheism debunked.

I'm 78 and was raised Catholic. When I was young we were admonished not to interpret the Bible. I'm not sure I'm remembering correctly but I believe "self interpretation" of the Bible was considered a sin. The results of the Pew research does not surprise me at all.
It's a shame that while you have the Biologist on the Show that no Abortion Callers picked up the phone. I know Matt is tired of those calls but I feel like Forrest covers the topic really well.
It seems to me that Alex claims everything that he doesn't understand as a coincidence that proves intelligent design. Whereas it just show the limitations of his own intelligence. His god id the 'God of the gaps'
if you don't believe in universal salvation you should be an antinatalist aka don't bring new people to suffer and die in this chaotic meaningless universe
I'm glad Matt read the entire puddle analogy because to stop short before the puddle evaporates is just quote mining and thus missing the entire point of the analogy.
Forrest is great on the show I love the contrast of his ability to explain and and teach, versus the harsh bluntness of Matt. The interaction is fantastic.
Anti-natalists do not usually claim people should be forced not to have children. It's a free choice like having children is. Similarly, most atheists who believe the Bible or religion is harmful, do not wish to ban it by force.
It's not a free choice if a 13 year old is raped by her uncle and gets pregnant is it? And where is the choice if abortion is banned? As for the bible, you don't need to be atheist to know it's dangerous immoral and man made, the majority of people on earth think that and atheist are still a minority.
If I were ruler of the world, I might ban it by force in the hopes that it go away in a generation or two. Sundays could be spent with family, friends, clubs, hobbies, sports. Anything would be better. Little old ladies getting together for cards and tea, rather than getting preached at.
I like this duo, Matt makes sure the callers don't pull slimy shit or waste time and Forrest adds another good voice of reason as well as softening the atmosphere helping callers feel less defensive.
The things of God can't be shared & that's by design. God demands that you seek out your own intimate experience w/ God. DO IT before your temporary free will expires at your last gasp on earth, because then it will be too late.
@@neverendingparty1534 One of my favorite ridiculous Christian arguments; so, in order for God to "share," I need to first _decide_ to believe. How does that work? How does one _decide_ to believe something they find unbelievable? Think hard about that before responding; consider whether _you_ could _decide_ to believe in a different god. Don't argue about why you _wouldn't._ I don't care that you _wouldn't_ make that choice; I'm asking if you _could._ Is it _possible?_ After pondering that, if you still think it's possible to _choose_ what you believe, please explain _how._ I'm predicting silence but hoping you'll answer.
The puddle analogy is NOT about how things fit. We are the puddle. We look around and see how everything is for us. The puddle is Alex. Alex looks at fire and thinks it's here for us. Or in his terms, the fire is a coincidence, which proves it was designed. The hole was designed specifically for the puddle to fit in. What Alex is missing is that the water is not just a character in the story. Water fits into whatever will hold it. The puddle thinks the hole was made for him, but water is the thing that molds to fit. If it was a bigger puddle or smaller puddle it still fails to realize that he is the one that changes. That's why he evaporates in the end. He just sees himself as a whole. But he's shrinking as he evaporates. The evolution of the eye is NOT NOT NOT part of the puddle analogy. Alex thinks the analogy explains it. But in the puddle analogy, the puddle would say that the eye was created for us to see with. Evolution destroys the analogy. Evolution says we changed to fit.

Crazy they think that considering the advances this century alone.
They largely don't understand what science is. Specifically, they confuse the knowledge gained for science.
A lot of theists also probably thought we reached the technological/scientific peak back in the 1300's, and even to this day most theists believe armageddon will come in their lifetime. I feel like those two factors really say a lot about religion

Declan was probably the saddest sounding caller I’ve heard on this show.
Ye and it goes to show how honest people are basically put into a meatgrinder in religion... just so sad
All i hear so far is a babbling mess of a call
I am so thrilled Forrest is now on the show. A great decision!

The puddle is YOU, the hole is THE WORLD. You fit into the world. You fit into the ENTIRE world. You don't look at one thing in the world (e.g. fire, or penicillin) and claim that that one thing is the hole. That's not what the analogy even means.
YOU (the puddle) are amazed that the THE WORLD (the hole) is made perfectly for you. THAT is the analogy.

yeah and to say something is special is already a value that we ourself give something
Children often do things like that.🤤
Plus he ignores all of the ways the universe is trying to kill us. It’s confirmation bias. He only sees the way the environment is beneficial to humans, like there being a chemical reaction we can make use of, like fire, but ignores the countless diseases, earthquakes, asteroids, or the most ironic of all, bushfires, that are all trying desperately to ruin our lives and murder us. Isn’t god responsible for all that too? When taken in totality the evidence shows that the environment we live in is neither for us or against us. It’s just random, there’s some useful stuff and some dangerous stuff, but just because there are some beneficial features that doesn’t mean god is real.

Trying to better understand a variety of religious beliefs, i slogged through the Bible, the Quran, the Book of Mormon, the Lotus Sutra, and some other scriptures, and i had to more or less force myself to finish them. By contrast, i loved every single moment of reading literature, only a very few examples of which are the Iliad and Odyssey, Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, the Harry Potter series, Plato's Dialogues, and The Age of Reason by Thomas Paine. Those are all thoroughly enjoyable to re-read too. Religions produce a lot of tedious, horrifying, and absurd literature. What if you had no feet or they hurt so bad that you couldn’t walk?

What if there was no food or plenty of food, but you had no mouth or anus?
What if gravity was so strong that you couldn’t move?
What if there was no sun or the sun was too close or too far away?
What if radiation on earth stayed at a deadly dose?
What if the entire earth was a ph of 1+ (stomach acid)?
What if there was no sound or sound was so loud & constant that no life could survive?
What if there was no water?
What if there was water, but it was impossible to make it potable (drinkable)?

9:15-9:50 Forrest, i believe the person (in the anecdote) you're referring to is Ludwig *Wittgenstein*
-a philosopher, not a mathematician!
i have no direct source to quote from
(for all i know the anecdote may have been fictitious), since the anecdote is often quoted without source,
but i'll try to find a solid one later and add it here.
Anyway, thanks for co-hosting this show, i love your work and your attitude!
Matt is always so sharp. He is a great example of what we all should aspire to be. A truly moral and compassionate, champion for truth with no ulterior motives. I hope he is never afflicted with dementia because that would be no less than a tragedy of mankind. He has taught me so much
Compassionate? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@cocatfan Say an pseudo-intellectual tone policer so your opinion doesnt matter.
@@cocatfan How much of his content have you actually seen? He's demonstrated deep compassion on a number of occasions. Let me guess, you disagree because he's been stern or grumpy? How childish.
@@bowlsallbroken And same people like to person you replied call rude truthtellers like Matt or me that rudeness equals childishness/immatureness.
They forget if people are unique so is matureness in way in form of expression.
@@klemenhudobreznik3421 Random aggressive outbursts do equal immaturity though. I'm not sure what your point is. He's compassionate and has a good moral compass, but he also gets harsh at times when it's not necessary. Like 29:10
Forrest is my favorite guest speaker! Always appreciate his input. Matt’s always so harsh, but I understand why. 100%. Going over the same thing over and over and over.
Edit: I see a lot of people can commiserate with Declan, and I’ve personally been there, I was forcefully raised Christian for 18 years, I stopped believing in god at 14-15 years old, but I hope he realizes that these things don’t prove his god is real.
Forrest kicks ass!! Love his personality! He can have a conversation without the temper tantrum. He also isn't afraid to call Matt on something he disagrees with we know how Matt thinks his word is law.
17:55 "The Dillahunty Timer" Hahahaaaa! OK, that's a funny addition (and new to at least me). Well played. 😄👍
You both had taught me a lot about critical thinking
Candidate explanations!!
"You got that wrong Forrest." I will never forget that, ever, I can't stop laughing.
My husband loves watching stand up comedy he doesn't really watch these videos with me, he has no idea how hilarious they are.
This has to be one of the best shows Matt has done EVER! The guest was allowed to speak and the exchange was very good. I hope it continues. Matt is very knowledgeable but so often he didn't allow the guest to say much. This was great...Thank you Matt!
great all theists this week - cant wait
FORREST VALKAI IS AMAZING AWESOME ...
My two favourite AE presenters in one episode. That's my morning sorted!
Can anyone point me to the database to find an athiest support group near me. I heard about it on this channel but now I can't find where I wrote it down. Thanks
I'd also recommend contacting Recovering From Religion and ask them this question. RFR have their own online support group as well.
Just Google, dude. City + atheist, skeptic...
A database may include only those who registered for the list. Google includes any group that gas a website or is mentioned on one.
Greetings Forrest and Matt, Forrest in case you ever read this It was Wittgenstein who asked . Whey do people believe the Sun goes around the earth. Ans. Because it looks that way. Wittgenstein- And how would it look if it were otherwise (implied answer exactly the same) Love the show. All the best JIM
17:00 can somebody translate? what is this guy talking about? I can't understand anything with that accent... I am not a native speaker BTW.
if you don't believe in universal salvation you should be an antinatalist aka don't bring new people to suffer and die in this chaotic meaningless universe
@@johnsamuel6741 thank you
I'm glad Matt read the entire puddle analogy because to stop short before the puddle evaporates is just quote mining and thus missing the entire point of the analogy.
Forrest is great on the show I love the contrast of his ability to explain and and teach, versus the harsh bluntness of Matt. The interaction is fantastic.
Good cop bad cop? 🙂
The top three easiest “theist evidence” for gods to debunk:
* personal experience
* miracles
* prophecy
And trees ;)
The things of God can't be shared & that's by design. God demands that you seek out your own intimate experience w/ God. DO IT before your temporary free will expires at your last gasp on earth, because then it will be too late.

Just leave man, party's over
@@neverendingparty1534 The lights are on, but you're not home.
Don't argue about why you _wouldn't._ I don't care that you _wouldn't_ make that choice; I'm asking if you _could._ Is it _possible?_
After pondering that, if you still think it's possible to _choose_ what you believe, please explain _how._
I'm predicting silence but hoping you'll answer.

*Would the religious abandon their faith if all of a sudden their pastor told them that they were tricked into believing in "god" so that a profit could be made off of them?*
Probably not. Human nature is such that people don't like being duped, but they really *HATE* having their noses rubbed in it.

The story Forrest is telling about : Why do we say its normal to think that the Sun revolves around the Earth? - What would it have looked like if it seemed that the Earth was spinning on its axis? - is a conversation between Ludwig Wittgenstein and Elisabeth Anscombe (which makes me suspect that Forrest has been reading neurologist Anil Seth's book : Being me)
