- Enjoy this "miniature" tilt shift video of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, a bustling, fast paced city with a constant ebb and flow of people, cars, and most notably scooters on the city's streets. I wanted to capture that in a "mini" way. I hope you enjoy my newest tiny tilt shift video! Press the thumbs up button if you enjoyed it!
The effect is normally done with a lens used specifically to get this kind of "miniature world" type look. The lens optics will tilt and shift in relation to the camera's sensor, thus distorting how we see the image. To be honest, I have no idea how it appears the way it does. It's some camera voodoo or something. This effect can also be achieved WITHOUT a tilt shift lens by adding some effects in the editing room. This is how I created it. @@dylanjohndickerson I've always wanted to make tilt shift videos. I saw a train come out of a tunnel in a canyon near my house and thought it would be the perfect subject for a tilt shift video. Lately I've been thinking it would be fun to make a short narrative all in tilt shift. By the way, Dylans rule!

It was not my friend! It was my own voice. In my imagination, that man was making sounds just like that lol
if this is a gh5, it looks like the miniature effect that comes with the camera.
None of your lenses you listed are tilt lenses.
Tilt shift shots are all about layout though. You can't just throw the effect on any shot, you need to actually think about where the blur begins on the top and bottom.
Avoid this kinda shot at 0:27, where you're blurring the billboard that shouldn't be blurred. It just makes the whole thing lose the miniature effect and looks like amateurish blurring.?

Se7en nope not the miniature effect on the GH5. Just a simple effect in post. You’re right. I don’t own a tilt shift lens and don’t plan on purchasing one soon. This ‘faux’ tilt shift will do for now.

@@dylanjohndickerson You are welcome, Dylan ;-) Amazing stuff you make. I have a little question for you. How do you focus with the GH5? I have used a very light setup and normally used the EVF and sometimes the screen with focus peaking on. But too often I have experienced that eventhough everything looked right and focus peaking showed everything was in focus, it was not. Do you have an external recorder/monitor or something or how do you nail the focus right? Thx in advance!
@@MortenTelling I appreciate that 🙏 I don't use an external monitor normally no. Especially when I travel, I just rely on focus peaking. Ya this does bring up some issues if I don't have my focus dialed in, but it allows me to keep my rig smaller and more low profile. I always shoot manual focus too because as you know, the GH5 has horrendous autofocus capabilities. If the camera is on a gimbal, I'll stop down to make sure I don't miss the focus. But then again, sometimes I risk it and hope my subject doesn't move or that I can move with my subject, keeping everything sharp.
