Did he just close the valve on the pipe towards the motor or also on the vent pipe? What happens with a partially full diesel tank at pressures of up to 300 bar? I guess it will break long before the ship will reach the bottom and the diesel will get out and start to ascend towards the surface.
Did the captain send distress message over INMARSAT? Over VHF DSC? Over HF? DId he phone an RCC? Did he activate EPIRB? Did he take the EPIRB into the boat?

The captain said that he didn't receive a confirmation of nor a response to his distress call - neither from a RCC nor from another vessel. (As far as i understand "Lady MM" was out of VHF communication range, so satellite communication should have been used.) Il capitano ha detto di non aver ricevuto una conferma né una risposta alla sua richiesta di soccorso, né da un RCC né da un'altra nave. (Per quanto ho capito "Lady MM" era fuori dal raggio di comunicazione VHF, quindi avrebbe dovuto essere utilizzata la comunicazione satellitare.)
