    This is like rediculously useful. When I do a drum performance with a midi controller that is super sensitive, I often have issues with the velocity maxing out or being too close to the bottom. This really helps to bring those velocities together to improve the dynamics.

    i think piano roll in Reaper is like audio recording and editing in FL Studio,still a shame in 2021 to not have a midi plugin or function like "Humanize" and "Quantize"in the midi editor.

    i the case of drums id highly recommend bouncing them down and processing that with an actual compressor, since the velocity in midi changes the sound drastically, but the compressor doesnt as much.

    • @REAPERMania
      @REAPERMania  3 года назад +4

      Yes. But if the performance is that uneven, fixing the MIDI is what you actually want.

    • @MrMockigton
      @MrMockigton 3 года назад

      @@REAPERMania well, yes. of course you should start from somethin that is halfway reasonable.

    • @zbigniewszczudlik1175
      @zbigniewszczudlik1175 3 года назад +1

      You want to start fixing things at the source, especially, when you consider MIDI drums, since a given VSTi applies different samples for different velocities. If you print MIDI to audio, you'll retain poor velocities.
      An example. If there's a snare ghost note in MIDI, which is too loud, when you compress it as audio, it'll still sound awkward. So you want to have your VSTi choose a soft hit in MIDI instead, which won't sound strange if you process it as audio afterwards.

    • @MrMockigton
      @MrMockigton 3 года назад

      @@zbigniewszczudlik1175 well in your example with the too loud ghost note, midi compression wont do any good. but i think we all agree that a good source is key.

    • @zbigniewszczudlik1175
      @zbigniewszczudlik1175 3 года назад +1

      @@MrMockigton It won't do any good if you treat all the drum sounds globally the same. That's why we need to compress selectively, too, per the type of sound we want to get. For instance, with up to 24 velocity layers available in Steven Slate Drums, you don't want to print a sound with radically wrong samples applied by the VSTi.

    Is there a way to do the same thing with the points of automation envelopes?

    • @henry-ys8wp
      @henry-ys8wp 3 года назад +1

      if you create an automation item around the points you want to manipulate (time selection around the points, right click a point, automation items > insert new automation item), by double clicking the automation item you can compress/expand the points by adjusting the 'Amplitude" slider. hope this helps :)

    • @philsmith426

    • @REAPERMania
