I’ve always had great experiences with JVC. My first car ever I installed a JVC double din unit and it lasted me 10 years with no problems at all until I sold the car. I recently purchased a 2000 GMC Sierra extended cab from a friend but it had an absolutely worthless sh!t single din radio in it. So I bought the JVC KW-M865BW along with new JBL GTO629’s 6.5inch speakers for the doors and put in a single 12inch Rockford Fosgate Punch P3 subwoofer that I had laying around with a Rockford Fosgate R2-500 amp. Everything works well together and sounds amazing! I’ll also add that I used Rockford Fosgate 4 gauge OFC amp wiring kit. Never cheap out on wiring! I’ll be installing a back up camera next.
I've got the 3000 version of it. I really love the simple display. The android auto is glitchy, but the bluetooth is on point. Just wish it had wireless screen mirroring
I installed an Alpine iLX-W650 last year, lot's of issues when making hand free calls, lots of squelching, plus often I could hear the other end, they couldn't hear me. Didn't work more than it worked. Didn't matter if connected via Bluetooth or via USB cable. After months of calls with both Alpine and Crutchfield tech support, Alpine finally sent me a replacement unit. Same issues. Dumped it and went with the Sony XAV-AX7000 from a local dealer, never been happier. Will never even consider an Alpine product again.
I've gone through a few Sony and Pioneer bead units but for my last install I tried the Alpine LX702. Never been so happy with the crystal clear sound which is my priority. In your case, I would probably chose the Alpine deck again because of signature sound and Android + apple compatibility.
Great video, thank you. I went with the JVC. More features and it's basically an all-in-one. One important feature to mention: the JVC touchscreen is resistive rather than capacitive. That's preferable because it's responsive when wearing gloves. Capacitive (like our cell phones) looks and feels better to the touch, but if you're wearing gloves (working in construction) resistive is the way to go.
That was my pick! If you watched the video to the end I thought it had the most features for the $$. Great choice!! Let us know if there is anything we can help you with! Thanks for the comment!

Just got the Kenwood DMX9707s as a Xmas gift. Features seem really good and enough connections for what I need, especially cameras to use on my Jeep off-road. My friend has the Alpine ILX207 in his Jeep and it has an option on the radio to have 8 switches on the touch screen for accessories with an Alpine accessory module! It’s an awesome feature not mentioned here. My friend hooked up some lights and it works great. For you Jeepers out there you know that a switch pod runs $150 to $700 alone depending on the brand. Since I already have a switch pod I’m going to stick with the Kenwood for the audio adjustments and wireless CarPlay and screen mirroring. I use Gaia app for off-road trails and it’s going to work perfect with this radio and not have to take my iPad with me any more. Oh, thank you for the video comparison of the radio, great job!

Wow. Dropped this at a perfect time. I want to put a headunit in my 2005 odyssey but I want to make the van feel newer. Seems like a lot of headunits feel like old/cheap tablets.
Well we hope this helps you make your decision. The main function of these headunits are music/ navigation/ phone calls and the Apple car play and android auto features are flawless and I agree with your statement about old tablets. They definitely need to work on those video features and web browsing if they are to offer them but again the Apple/android features work really good because they are developed and updated by Apple and Google
I have a Pioneer W960 in my 2017 Evora and am looking to upgrade for no other reason than the abysmal backup camera resolution and lack of Android Auto. The W987 is the logical upgrade but getting a head unit without DVD or Navigation makes more sense (about 1000 bucks more sense). Any suggestions on a head unit that offers: 1) A higher resolution (for the cameras) 2) Preferably 2nd camera input that can be active when driving 3) Android auto 4) I use a Bluetooth Car Computer Reader connected via the ECU and would like to see the data on the screen in real time
@@nate8415 I could not get the guages screen working with the maestro, in a 2017 toyota. Even went so far as to try a different maestro. Tech support verified my install. The software parking brake bypass did not seem work with android auto. Decent sounding radio though, louder than expected. I did not get around to trying the android auto, wired or wireless. I just Want my guages.
I am wanting to install a double din with wireless android auto, hopefully the prices drop eventually because I definitely don't want to pay almost $800 😂 I would prefer to go with more well known brands with the best possible software. Some have Jensen or Boss but reviews have said the touch screen sucked and the software looks awful. I like the pioneer and the JVC but I'm waiting for now I would be using this on a stock 2012 F150 sound system so no amp or subs. I know absolutely nothing about car audio 😂 I also would like my steering wheel controls to function
Thanks for the awesome reviews! When I 1st came here I was looking at Kenwood and Pioneer, but JVC has how peaked my interest as wireless connection and mirroring are my preferred features, but the Android display on the screen is great!
Where can I find the housing you rest each radio into? I'm getting ready to install a radio into a 70's corvette and it didn't have a radio originally (other than a 8 track)
Watssup witcha man!? I was tryna c if yu cud tell me wat size radio can fit n a 03 Mercury Marauder (not carin abt the price) and wat will work best bcuz I stay on the road a lot and I love my music loud and I love to watch stuff on RUclips and etc! Cud yu please point me n the right direction!
So I'm relatively new to this car stereo scene, and would like to get the most information I can to better pick the right set up for myself. I'm an "audiophile" that loves to listen to very loud music at crystal clear, hi-res quality (if possible). I would like to know what's recommended and what is a must if I'm trying to install a system in my ram 1500. I want deep enough bass without over powering and drowning out the highs and mids. Something thats loud enough to listen to without distortion even from outside the vehicle. Would greatly appreciate the info!
I sell KENWOOD, JVC, pioneer and Sony at my store. It’s JVC all day, but that being said we focus as much as we can on hifi audio and 5v preouts are a must. Every pioneer customer is practically required to get a line driver. Lol.
I'd like to see the signal of a JVC on the scope. I have that Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX and the 4v preouts are zero issue. The HiRes wifi audio is amazing sounding when a wireless android auto connection is made. High res flac files too. The unit can play clean and crystal clear at 39 out of 40 total volume without clipping on the line level and RCA outputs. Many quality amps today will accept the high voltage line level outputs so a line driver or high to low level converter shouldn't be necessary if using a quality amp anyways. Not if you're selling cheap Brazilian Taramps "I want to burn my car down" amplifiers.
My guys love selling the JVC gear. But with what’s going on in the industry right now and the pandemic it’s hard to get those units. Good to know you guys are keeping hifi car audio alive!
Not so sure about the Sony as it's missing wireless Android Auto. So looking like the Pioneer is best choice for me. Had my 03 Grand Cherokee for over a decade. Time to upgrade as I'll probably have it a few more years. Pioneer W4660NEX looks to fit fairly well with some modifications. Don't really care if the stock tossed out because I'm betting this Jeep will be sent to the trash heap when finish with it. As a family member stated a while back, "You drive your cars into the ground". Yes, I do. Had my 95 Explorer for nearly 10 years. Jeep will last about same. New Jeeps just aren't built the same.
Im having the dvd/cd version ddx9707s installed at best buy too this may 14th lol can you tell me if your wireless android auto and mirroring worked ? unless of course you have a iPhone. My installer said he's had nothing but problems getting it to work with android. Thanks 😁
Thank you for the very thorough review of all of these units..!! This is exactly what I was looking for in regards to Dbl DIN sets @ $500 and below range.. Perfect 👌..!! Personally,, I believe I'll be getting the Kenwood that mirrors Android Phones.. Yezzir,, that'll be sick pairing with my Google Pixel 5...YaaMeannn..Thx again
@Fuck RUclips yeah its overall pretty good i just be having trouble with my usb cord for my iphone it be disconnecting sometimes but i don’t think thats the headunits fault might be the wire itself lol it’s annoying ash sometimes tho but id have to take a look at it in the future
Great video, thank you. Makes it tough to choose. What would you recommend for an 08 Tahoe LTZ to replace the screen ? Has navigation and everything but Bluetooth, so would like to add it.
I've had a few of these brands in older style radios, and each company has their benefits. Swapping out a Bose and touch screen leaves me wondering what would work best. Thank you
What about soundstream? Are they still a good brand? I just ordered the VRCPAA-7DRM headunit and the RSM4.1200D for my component speakers.. Anybody still messing with Sounstream? I used to rock them back it the day..
I'm in the market for a head unit to update my 2006 F-350 hauling a truck camper. It is from the time when a 6 disc CD changer was king and MP3 players were just getting started. No backup camera either. I really need to update it with the camera most of all, as it is a lot of truck and I plan on towing a motorcycle trailer behind it so I need to be able to see what I'm doing if I have to backup.
I would go with kenwood, kenwoods are just fancy JVC’s and offer a little more tuning options. If you really wanna take it further you can go with Kenwoods Excelon lineup with higher preout voltages, and since they use higher quality parts they’ll also sound better too. Sony is pretty good too but I would stick to a kenny or jvc if possible. Alpine and Pionneer aren’t bad radios, it’s just the lack of features and tuning options that puts them far behind Kennwood, JVC, and Sony. These are really for anyone on a budget and isn’t a stickler on the finest minute detail of sound quality.
@@cristovalortega1968 thought they all had that, maybe apart from the double din ones. The KMM-X704 has a detachable screen, it’s the one I use. A lot of the single din kenwoods should have a detachable screen.
Thanks for the comment Lance. I believe that is for the preout section(RCA) for an amp. Because that radio only has two sets of preouts You can set the rear RCA to either rear or subwoofer. If you select subwoofer it activates the subwoofer level control on the stereo. But it’s not recommended to wire up a subwoofer directly to the power of the stereo.
@@BreakersStereo 75 watts bridged channel off purple and green wires. It's on the power rating page in the manual. But ya only 2 sets of rca, premier series had 3.
Man, if you're going to charge more than $200 for a headunit with carplay or auto, it really needs to be wireless. I'd love to do maps on a larger screen whilst playing some music but if I have to wear my USB port out to plug it in every time I get in my car it's not worth it. Much like how I'll plug a bluetooth adapter into the aux and power and never touch it again because I can simply start the car and go and my phone will auto connect, open Spotify and start playing without having to touch it prematurely wearing things out with constant connections / disconnects.
I’ve acctually been looking at the Alpine, but I dont want to mess up my phones battery by having to plug it in everytime I want to drive so because of the wireless carplay I Think I Will be going for the Pioneer
I’m between the JVC and Pioneer, I really want the HDMI input so I can plug my iPhone 12 Pro and mirror it. However, if I understand correctly, the JVC has wired mirroring for my iPhone right? I guess I don’t care if I plug it in to mirror using an HDMI core or my lightning to usb cable! However, the pioneer with Alexa and the CarAVAssist seems nice. But I say that because I just want to mirror my iPhone so if I can mirror my phone through my usb cable to use RUclips, Netflix etc, then I guess I really don’t need the CarAVAssist thing right? So, I am asking, will the JVC do everything I need or will the Pioneer do better with that being I want to have my iPhone mirrored perfectly on the head unit screen at high resolution to watch Netflix, RUclips, Prime Video etc?!
This might sound crazy but I have a 2013 jaguar XJ it has an aftermarket android stereo in it now and it fits beautiful and looks stock actually better then stock but the car play stopped working the CarPlay still connects to my phone so I have ways and everything and it shows my pandora but no sound comes out it shows it’s playing but nothing the only sounds it out of FM radio and I’m lost even if I plus my iPhone in it still doesn’t play music from my phone but I hat I love is it has all my car functions like seats and massage seats and car seat A/c and everything else for my car I know it’s not the highest quality of car it’s the uis8581a h10 automotive so what stero should I buy to replace it ??? I need it to looks as good and be able to have all my controls for the car
JVC, as it’s what I go to pretty much every time when doing installs on my own cars, and when someone asks.....I tell them JVC or Kenwood (or Alpine at times, depending on situation) for clients. The other thing a like about JVC, when call rep for support, I get through; which is a plus imo; as sometimes waiting 2-4 days(if Friday and gotta wait till Monday for someone to read/listen to message and then reply in a day or two; just not cool making client wait). So, that’s my opinions and why. But, there are a lot of “good” head units today from diff brands at diff price points that can make any OEM car radio upgrade look, sound, & amaze ppl....along w/ LOOKING like it’s an OEM head unit😉
I have a C5 Corvette... I would consider the one that is best suitable for my car. I live near your shop... so I definitely would like to see what options you have for me. Great informative videos. 👍
I love these! But I would like to see a "Best car stereo for specific cars" video. Because some radios work and look better in some cars, but not others.
Looking to replace the head unit in a 2006 Corvette convertible. Like the JVC for the wireless Android Auto, multiple camera inputs and mirroring capability.

The W987 is the logical upgrade but getting a head unit without DVD or Navigation makes more sense (about 1000 bucks more sense).
Any suggestions on a head unit that offers:
1) A higher resolution (for the cameras)
2) Preferably 2nd camera input that can be active when driving
3) Android auto
4) I use a Bluetooth Car Computer Reader connected via the ECU and would like to see the data on the screen in real time
Thanks. I actually returned that pioneer W4660 yesterday, got tired of Pioneer's BS. I think I'm going with the JVC instead!
what was wrong with it
@@nate8415 I could not get the guages screen working with the maestro, in a 2017 toyota. Even went so far as to try a different maestro. Tech support verified my install. What would be the best unit if you have apple products? Would love to get the best out of a unit with the handheld products I use
I like the pioneer and the JVC but I'm waiting for now
I would be using this on a stock 2012 F150 sound system so no amp or subs. I know absolutely nothing about car audio 😂 I also would like my steering wheel controls to function
what rear camera do you recommend for the kenwood DMX9707S?
So if you run an amp, the lower rms wattage is irrelevant, right? It only really matters if you're just running the speakers straight off the stereo?
Thanks for the awesome reviews! When I 1st came here I was looking at Kenwood and Pioneer, but JVC has how peaked my interest as wireless connection and mirroring are my preferred features, but the Android display on the screen is great!
My Subaru Crosstrek has settings built into the factory radio, what happens to those settings if I switch out to an aftermarket radio?
I was also wondering as my 2023 Crosstrek Sport is supposed to arrive by the end of August and am thinking of going with a Sony XAV-AX6000.
How about the Sony in s boat?

Glad your back with another video and glad your wife finished up her shopping!! Lol. Stay safe my friend and happy holidays.

I'm trying to find the loud and clear sounding radio anybody can help me out ??
And that's what you really want ask your dad
Pioneer is real great for that.Audiophile level sound
Alpine
Which one is best in bright sunlight?
Kenwood or JVC
Great video, clear explanation on features, Pros and cons..!
Stinger High 10 ? Audison?
Pioneer: just killed them again bro.
Premier: yeah bro.
Others: we shall try again next season
Me: lol
Thanks for the video, do any of these have a removable face plate for security purposes? Thanks!
Thanks! And no detachable face plate
@@BreakersStereo thanks. Do you sell these? I'm looking for something high quality with a removable face for security. Thanks!!

Thank you for the very thorough review of all of these units..!! This is exactly what I was looking for in regards to Dbl DIN sets @

What is the best double din head unit with the best bluetooth connection my kenwood can drop out now and then
Thank you. May have just found a replacement for my PRS 80. 😎👍
I'm thinking of going for the Alpine. I just need apple car play for my maps and the best sound quality. Rest is meh
i just got the ixl 207 shit fye
Hello! Which of these better fits in a Camry 17? Thanks!
All should work good!
Where is S/PDIF or COAX out for Hi-Res music out for music processor ?
Which of these have built-in Navigation (GPS)?
Which one would you recomend to hook up with 12in sub amp, pair’s of 6x9, 4in and tweeters?
If you can get your hands on a JVC. But any of these radios are awesome
@@jace_Henderson any good kenwood models that have detachable screen ? ive had people break into my truck and steal before lol
@@jace_Henderson i was on fence with alpine and sony kenwoods are super expensive and outa stock so im on fence with all
@@cristovalortega1968 thought they all had that, maybe apart from the double din ones. The KMM-X704 has a detachable screen, it’s the one I use. A lot of the single din kenwoods should have a detachable screen.
My pioneer deh p7400mp can set the rear channels to a subwoofer output directly from the head unit.
So, I am asking, will the JVC do everything I need or will the Pioneer do better with that being I want to have my iPhone mirrored perfectly on the head unit screen at high resolution to watch Netflix, RUclips, Prime Video etc?!
jvc sounds really good, mirror my phone so I can watch movies n stuff
JVC kw-M865 is clearly the best one if you have a android phone
I have an 07 toyota sequoia im going to be using the existing amp and adding a backup camera we have apple and android phones which should i get???
Any idea when the new Alpine iLX-207 model will be released?
Been out for a few years. Had mine for at least a year
Give me a double din option with detachable face and hdmi input please
Looking to replace the head unit in a 2006 Corvette convertible. Like the JVC for the wireless Android Auto, multiple camera inputs and mirroring capability.
So the higher the voltage of the head unit the better the sound? Right
Correct
