Thank you for this Chris! I agree with pretty much all your great points. Hannah I agree she had no business being in there and her pre-interview. She was never a super fan. She love big brother and she love the challenge. But she didn’t watch survivor until the pandemic hit. Like most of them pandemic so she saw it, and of course, sitting from her couch she was like oh I can do that. She was asked how she prep for it she did not prep she went on a peloton and she tried to do intermediate fasting and didn’t even last a day she never cared for this. She didn’t have the passion that some people do what bothers me more is that she took the spot of somebody who’s an alternate who would’ve truly wanted to be there. Emily she knew you going and she was gonna be a villain. That’s what she wanted. That’s what she likes. She did not want to change. She knows how aggressive and harsh she comes in. Apparently she’s not willing to change. In her confessionals, you know that she recognized how harsh she is because she said it I know I’m going to be voted out. But you think that would stop her from changing. No she just kept doing it. I think the reason she brought up Bruce and everybody else was to start laying targets on everybody else because she knows that she would be the obvious first target so she’s trying to create many different targets. Plus, I think I read her pet peeve with everything and people. That in itself speaks volumes. I Love Sifu. His name is Nicholas and so is my son so I want him to go far. With that being said, I saw what he did and I went dude stop. And then you get busted? Ok. It’s early still time to restart. Brandon I felt bad for him but I feel once he has been involved in a few competitions his anxiety on the not knowing will settle into a routine. Is it me on this. Jake - I did not care for him in his pre interview but I kind of like him. Cannot wait to hear your deep dive.
I agree on Jake he did better than I thought. Another person who I didn't get to talk about is Drew and his alter ego Basil I think that could be a fun combination if he makes it deeper in to the game.
I thought they would have vetted the players better. To have 2 players on the same team that just can't 'handle' it out there is ridiculous. Jeff should have made them vote just so we could see what would have come from it. Hannah should have been forced to cast a vote regardless. A statistic like that could be crucial in a future tie depending on the rules. I do not care for Emily's personality at all. She seems to suck the joy out of everything. I get casting her as a villain but to not enjoy anything is a downer. She's also not impressive so far so she can't even walk the talk. I don't think she'll last long. Even though Hannah wasn't a good player & bit off more than she could chew, she was still nice & tried to be optimistic. I mean they named the title after their conversation "we can do hard things" regardless of how sucky of a player she was, I think she must have found something in her self to be proud of even thought she shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Great take Chris, totally agree. I enjoyed the first episode, although it would have been nice to get an actual vote out rather than a quitter. Overall I was entertained, a bit of a let down on the sweat and savvy but a good mix of personalities so hoping for a good season. Thanks :)
I agree. the Sweat and Savvy challenge was quite a let down. I think it would have been better to have it be whichever team finished first, however long it took, gets the "prize" (though realistically, I think a pot, machete and flint are required and shouldn't have to be earned). maybe have a time limit with it ending like 30 minutes before sunset or something, so they couldn't continue overnight, but we didn#t even get to see the puzzle solved, so what was the point?!
I agree, they should have made them vote for two reasons. 1st so we could see who she would have voted for. 2nd because if in the future it could matter in the course of a tie, who previously might have had more votes cast on them overall. A 3rd reason would be WHAT if Emily ended up getting voted out anyway? THAT would have been even better tv. Would Hannah still have quit if that had happened or just been ticked off?
Listen, I totally understand Hannah wanting to quit. If I went out there, I know I would feel the same way, but THAT'S WHY I HAVE NEVER APPLIED! Lol So yeah, it was a real let-down, but on the other hand, IMO it was completely unexpected as I did not see that coming. I'm glad that Brandon is getting another chance, though he really fell in my rankings. I had high hopes for him. Yellow was my top rated team going into this season. (stop laughing) But Emily was my lowest ranking person. I can't stand her and was hoping she'd go home BUT I also know that those big, pushy personalities make great TV. That's almost someone you WANT to keep because everyone else can't stand them and they'll always be a bigger target then you, so I'm excited to see what she brings in the next episode(s).

This was my favourite first episode for as long as I can remember! Couldn't stop laughing at some of the people. As much as I hate a quit, I found it so funny that Caleb and Sabiyah were kind of wanting to vote out three people in their tribe at once because they're all so useless. Comedy gold! I thought Season 44 was an absolute snoozefest so I hope 45 continues being this entertaining. Also great vid!
Well they really gave us an interesting first episode. It had everything, tears, call-outs, a variety of personalities, failures, successes and a quit. But even with all of this, I was still disappointed. I thought they were supposed to spend a couple of days roughing it before actually starting the game. Like actually going through the faux process to see if they could hack it on the actual show? The alternates must be super pissed off now. Sending them to Wilderness Scout Camp would have gotten a better read on their abilities and would have saved them the embarrassment. Casting could have done way better. I really hope Jeff addresses the 'quit' on his podcast. I know Tyson will. I just need to find the time to listen to them. In the imortal words of TJ "Don't take care, hope to see you never "
Well to paraphrase an Oldsmobile commercials, when putting out a new line of cars to a younger market "this is not your father's Oldsmobile" This is definitely NOT my original Survivor. I will say the downhill started before the new era but this opening season is just beyond belief. The sensitivity is just to much. Especially to lump them on the same team? I just can't. I now wish Survivor was on after The Amazing Race so if I want to go to bed early I won't feel bad about it.
Not gonna lie, I love the Lulu tribe because of how over the top of a mess they are. They remind me of the Brains tribe from Cagayan. The episode ending a quit is absolutely disappointing though. Hearing how difficult casting is, I just know Jeff and the casting team wasn't expecting this. There's no way they would want a quit, especially in this new era, which is supposed to be all about never giving up. I don't mind all the superfans, because I know most of them actually do appreciate being there. There's a lot of likable people this season, so I'm looking forward to how it all plays out!

I still think that there is space for those that build social connections first before being a game bot. Jessy comes to mind from a recent season he did it extremely well. Hell even Carson or Karla.

I had a friend from SA who could speak that click of the tongue language of some African tribe. He was older and I think he had lived with the tribes for a while.
@@b4danicab I speak Afrikaans as a first language which is very similar to Dutch. English is my second language. I think for the most part I do ok because obviously living in Australia I need to be fluent in English.

She is a therapist, most people who are therapists tend to actually no be so great at maintaining control of their emotions and actions, which is why they learn more coping strategies and in turn use those strategies to help more people. Most people who have the personality of a "therapist" realistically aren't cut out to play Survivor. Even if they can show Jeff and production they're coping strategies, once they get out on the island they are still the same uncompetitive person they were before the scenario. I don't blame Hannah too much, although she should have stopped using the nicotine patches at Ponderosa. I get the lack of discipline, but that is something that she should have done differently without question. The number of therapists/social workers to play Survivor is quite small and for a valid reason. Only 2 Therapists and 4 social workers have competed to my knowledge. Therapists (Denise, Tori) and Social Workers (Tanya 5, Sally 12, Brice 28, Roark 35). Keep in mind Social Workers aren't therapists and also have not come close to winning at all. So only two legit therapists have ever done well in Survivor, and they were both stud. But even with that, EVEN Denise almost quit in the first 3-12 days of Philippines but Malcolm convinced her to stay. She won the season, but even then she wouldn't have won without Malcolm blowing it and Skupin having poorer social reads (in part due to Denise's successful social game). Tori didn't win but she was a pretty studly player. These two people are VERY studly individuals and probably could have found other lines of work other than therapy. Hannah is not nearly as much of a stud overall as these two people. So while I get the blaming Hannah, I am understanding. People who have the traditional therapist emotional template/extreme empathy makeup are not built to play to Survivor...period. This is something I'm kind of passionate about as I have some empathetic gifts. So feel free to blame casting or blame Hannah. I just wanted to offer this perspective, the traditional emotional makeup is not built to play Survivor.

Especially when you take in to account that both camps got the supplies after the immunity challenge in any case? Except the tribe who lost would lose their flint so it seems like a lot of extra game mechanics for little to no pay off. But it did create drama at camp with players being targeted for going and the fact that they had to navigate being the first tribes out there to lose the challenge.
1000% i agree that Gabler doesnt deserve all the hate he gets. Dude played an impeccable social game, and he deserves more credit.

2:04 casted is an incorrect past tense conjugation for cast. It's still cast. "Some of the people that they've cast recently", is correct.
Noted, it can be a mix in my head sometimes since english isn't my first language.
