Building Analog 909 Drums in eurorack! (Hexinverter NeinohNein)

- (Skip to 10:54 to hear the sound demo!) I've been toying around with drum machines and samplers for a while now, but I haven't found anything that I really like as far as sounds and sequencing and interface, so I decided to build my own. I'm starting with the Hexinverter NeinohNein kick, clap and snare, which are my favorite drum machine sounds of all time. They sound nice and punchy and crisp, especially mixed properly. Next I plan to make a proper trigger sequencer and then add a sampler module to round out the kit.
OMG! That method for mounting circuit boards to panels is gold. Thank you - this is something I have really struggled to find a good method for.
+1 for modular addict. Great shop in my city, so fun to just go over there and building/trying out new modules.
Great video and more importantly a really great sound. Love the diy ethos.
P E A C E : )
I love how your wires are 909 colors :)
Awesome video, best youtube video I've seen in a while.
Really a joy to watch your whole process! I love the feeling of making a sound completely for your own, yesterday I made a nice 909 kick out of a pro 3 and some decent overdrive and distortion and layers, all through a low sample rate sampler.. At the end I was very happy with this coming out of "nothing". Not to compare with a DIY project, but since I own a re 303 wich was ready build I can understand this hobby :) and for me hunting after a 909 style kick for some time, I don't believe really that you need a real 909. When you put some effort in the sounddesign of this short sounds it doesn't matter. Even a real 909 needs a lot of processing.
Just picked up an old hexinverter module based on these modules and it includes the RIM as well. Module is massive
Yaay more diy modular videos! Im interested in building your supersixteen btw, I got the microcontroller and just recently learned to etch PCBs but the github is kinda hard for me to follow. Also I love those acid tunes, would love to hear more!
Cheers from Spain :)
Thanks! Updates coming soon on the super sixteen, just about done with the firmware now, waiting on some supplies and paperwork (aren't we all?). In the middle of reorganizing my studio around the synth and drum machine, hoping to do some live acid sessions soon!
@@extralifedisco Yess great news, I'll stay tuned!
the NeinohNein has been my main kick module since it first came out. I love it! Added CV control to make it even better
Awesome work
That sounds GREAT ~💡🔥🌟
Thanks for another nice video! Not everyone makes well cut videos, nice presentation, and interesting topics at the same time. So, next up, a multi-channel arduino-based DIY trigger sequencer for the drums?
thanks man very good
good job man!
great video! what is that sequencer looking thing at 7:24?
Just watch the whole video and don't skip ahead. He said what it was at like 7:14
One of these, bought it half-finished on craigslist, not sure where to find it now! mutable-instruments.net/archive/module_tester/
The Mutable Instruments Module Tester. They are really nifty, very useful and quite an easy build. All through-hole components. I bought a PCB and pre-programmed chip from amazingsynth.com and the rest of the components mostly from Mouser.
14:47 whats that mini mido keyboard u havea. I need a smal midi controller
That's a Keith McMillen K-board, perfect travel companion. They also have the QuNexus which is the same but with CV outs.
Cool video! What resistors are you using on your Trigger Finger 3000 ? Is the red stripe on the cable +12V ?
They're just 10k set up as dividers to get ~6v to the trigger ins. It's regular eurorack power cable, 12v/gnd/-12v

Sorry for the basic question but do you go directly from the modular to the mixer input or do you attenuate in some way? Thanks
Yes, I send all the drums through a little 4ch eurorack mixer and then the mixed output goes straight to a line input. Can be handy to send through a line out module for metering and adapting to 1/4" jack. The clap is an especially hot output so requires an attenuator of some kind.
