hey Professor I have all those kicks but you forgot my 3 favorites.. RiDrum TK-09 (the king IMO) RiDrum TK-01 and the Blue Lantern Asteroid Bass Drum (V4 is my favorite version).. the TK-09 and TK-01 are extremely hard to find.. the TK-09 is the only one I prefer better than an actual 909.. if you do buy them immediately I guarantee you won't be disappointed..
Great vid - would be interested for more of these especially as it's harder to come to the store to try things out right now.. Personal (and blind tested) favs are Basimilus and Jomox here.
great video! hex BD9 gets pretty wholesome. all seem useful sounding for different applications. for my needs and desired sound, my biased love is undeniable; erica bassdrum is the truth.
Jomox sounds the best to me in terms of weight and the variety of tones you can get out of a module. But its "click" part feels separate from the body/sub. I think it's a must to run it through some saturation and/or compression to "glue" all the components together. Awesome comparison video btw.
@@nym053 Kind of a pain to dial that in with modular gear though. I reckon it's feasible with the ER-301 although I'm not 100% sure how I'd go about that. A lot of eurorack users don't seem to be using EQ, or are running something pretty basic.
Thanks for this comparison! My favorites are Mutant BD and BIA. The L.E.P. Cassa sounds kind of weird but i guess this is what you have to expect from a L.E.P. Module :D
Thanks and this was helpful. My fav is the Tiptop BD09. Tones are great. Easy to dial in a solid fundamental kick. If I want more, I can add to the sound. I cant add to a heavy transient or noisy sound. While I enjoy just playing with the BIA...its a pain to add in a mix where the other sounds are clean or more clean. All this said, I just ordered the SSF Ultra Kick. Hoping its fundamental is solid and when I want to add more, I can do that all in one place. Plus I want to use it for sub bass texture.
Great, Can you buy all those modules in one? I like that you focussed on the sounds, Rather than what each can do =) There are A LOT of producers out there making music for the wrong reasons, Forgetting that at its core, Sound is what it is all about. great video
It does for sure, vaguely regret selling mine. It's just takes up so much rack space lol, can be quite slow to dial in the right sound as well. I might get one in the future and keep it outside the rack next time.
Yeah, any collection of more traditional modules wired up the right way and dialed in just perfectly, but like the other replies said that takes up a lot more space than any of these modules. That's just the trade-off
@@stinkymart3173 Takes up space and you lose the immediacy of a dedicated module that way. Some people are into modular because they want to design everything from scratch, others want to design an instrument that does exactly what they want, how they want it, and that can include being able to dial in a kick without interrupting your workflow. Both approaches are totally valid, and I think most modular users probably fall into the middle there somewhere with a lot of sound design capabilities but dedicated modules with a niche/specific range as well.
think all eurorack kicks sounds better though and good filter with separate controlled adsr.. That’s how I run my Boomtschak .. gets very fat and sounds more modern

Awesome kick setup, one can never havetoo many bassdrum options 👍🏻

agree and BIA is super versatile can do more if you modulate it and Jomox is just a beast.
this case is my dream
Basimilus sounds great
Great! Jomox, Crater really kicking, and clicking. Mutant 9 and Basilimus nice variety
Erica all day every day
And twice on Sunday

Extremely helpful. Thanks for making video.

run it thru Mutant Hot glue compressor mixer
Or not use the click/noise at all :)
@@nym053 yeah but sometimes you might want some top-end on yar kick 🙂
@@piotr803 use an eq bell curve, then you don't loose the roundness of your transients :)

An analog Oscillator Comparison would be great in the future as i'm searching for a replacement for my Doepfer A-110-1

Thank you
Jomox sounded the heaviest followed by Hexinverter Mutant Bass Drum
WMD Crater and then Jomox IMO, BD9 was solid too.
Super helpful!
Can you make a gabber kick on the BD909 tho?
Interesting 👍
ok i want the crater
love mine super fun and don't forget about fracture and chimera those are superb unique percussion modules as well
@@GuitarsAndSynths hey Boiler Room
Sampling time !!!!!
Hi, did you use sample, kick drum,
thanks.
Crater + Jomox + Tiptop 909
crush on mutant bass drum

A matter of personal taste. Got my Jomox today, will send it back an keep my ssf entity bass...-
ok basilimus also
Just my personal opinion but I think a Moog DFAM sounds more rich an deep than all of these.

DFAM+Subharmonicon would be great portable setup.
Agreed. I sometimes just tune it to a sound and trigger it externally w/o the internal sequencer.

bit where is the mfb and cwejman kick???
come oooooon 😭😭😭
Hey Serdar, we didn't include them because both modules are not available anymore. But MFB and Cwejman both are nice options!
ok jomox...
They all sound pretty crappy
True
you really need to run them thru a compressor to clean them up
you should hear them on a PA, specially the jomox.. it doesn't need ANYTHING, sounds like a tank coming through the walls
