58 had a lot of firsts, some people made fun of the “balloon fenders” too but I thought it was a good looking car. That guy’s Impala is a beautiful car & you can tell he put a lot of love into it.

1958 was also the first year for the triple tail ight configuration on each side of the top-of-the-line model-the Impala. The 1959 was the only year that strayed from that design until the 1966. In 1967 that configuration returned in 1967.

Sir, You have a sweet lady. A neighbor up the road from us bought a ‘58 ragtop, with the continental kit. I used to drool when he went by the house, touching the high spots in the road. Again, that is a great car.

He also mentioned in engine work how he put 409 heads & cam in the 348 block which an older friend of mine did to his 61 Impala bubble top engine. His 348 also had the 3 deuces set up. Unfortunately later he installed a two 4 barrel set up on it plus he had a 4:11 posi rear end. He was going to race it at local drag strip but he took it out to test run it & blew up the engine (powdered #1 piston, bent the rod into a pretzel) and locked it up. Sad.

I;m so glad I got to see to the late 50s and 60s growing up as a kid. We had great music and bad ass cars and America was still sane and fairly free. Today is a massive sh!thole compared to then.

Nice 58' Impala you have there, nice color too, Impressive! Yes, the 348 cubic inch engine I'm very familiar. Those cars back in the day played a big part of my life. When I was 16 yo, I drive a my 1959 Chevy Impala to and from High School. Boy I love those seats when at the drive-in with my girlfriend. For me to get into a vehicle these days is like playing the game twister... We're not little people from Asia. Don't forget the 327 engines.

I had a black 58 two door with white interior and it was beautiful ❤️, if we could post pictures here I would show you, the engine was getting tired and my brother had wrecked his Buick and I put the 455 in the 58, and did it right and even had the ac hooked up and working great, that car would smoke the tires as long as you would hold the pedal down, i think the 58 was much nicer looking than the 57 , i drove it for years and finally a old guy offered me way more than it was worth and I sold it but it still looked like new except the driver side of the seat was worn a little bit, i kept it spotless and it never came out from thanksgiving until the first day of spring, ever, i drove it to my family's for Thanksgiving and she went in the garage till spring, i didn't even get it out if it was raining

Because my dad owned one back in the 60's I then saw the 2 door in American Graffiti, I remembered dad's, so the 58 to 62 model cars have remained my preferred models.

My dad had a 59 ex RCMP hwy patrol car. It had a cam in it and I believe a 348 cu in. All I remember was if dad hit the gas a little hard he would be spinning the rear tires.

The only thing that was ever wrong with the 700 R4 was people who did not know how to properly set pressure control cable. They are tremendous transmissions.

I love the front end so much and the side styling is next to none. I think the rear end bubble fins are weird looking but when i get one ill probably fab some little round verticle fins to fill out that weird rear end, lol.

Chevy only had the roof in '58, but that roof line was on the '57 & '58 Cadillac.
I liked it better then the bubble top that replaced it.
Although the fake convertible top was the best.

Beautiful car … oh yeah that J-set up carbs came out in 56 or 57 Olds Rocket 88 had them …. Better than Pontiac . Too bad that GM is run by Girly Men now …. If it was run by Real men , you could special order anything on the Engine !!
