Palm Jumeirah in Dubai is the world’s largest man-made island and features sea-view apartments, beach-front villas, and opulent high-rises that attract the world’s wealthiest. The project took 6 years and cost an incredible $12 million. Developers used sand from the seabeds below and rocks from the mountains to construct the base and the land. They also constructed breakwaters to keep the island and its residents safe from storms and typhoons. Now that the project is completed, business on the island is booming, with celebrities like David Beckham and Kim Kardashian calling it a favorite vacation spot.
You can actually spot the Palm all the way from space-- its unique shape is hard to miss. Residents pay millions of dollars for luxury villas on the island-- each with their own private beach-- and use their vacation there to enjoy the Golden Mile Galleria, The Pointe by Nakheel which features one of the world’s biggest fountains, and the incredible Boardwalk which takes you around the crescent and offers you a spectacular look at the complicated island. It’s also home to the Lost Chambers Aquarium at the famed Atlantis Hotel, where a stay in their Royal Bridge Suite will cost at least $25,000 per night. The island has been such a success that there are even plans to make two more, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira, also known as Deira Islands. My husband is a civil engineer and when we visited the Palm he marvelled at the way this was built. Also it is absolutely huge, so much larger than it appears in any video. It's amazing as is the whole of Dubai.

I live on the Palm. You can rent an apartment for well under $25,000 per year or buy one for probably 10x that. There's a huge diversity of properties at different price ranges and the majority of people living on the Palm are just ordinary residents working office or corporate jobs. In Dubai terms the Palm is already considered an older development (anything older than 10 years in Dubai is considered old) so prices are lower than some other areas of Dubai. You don't have to be mega-rich to live here.
Damn no lie 2500 is really good price. I live in Ca and Pay like $36,000 a year. And there’s hella traffic too. You get all this cool stuff

The Deira Islands, which were originally part of the Palm Deira, are already seeing massive progress, with entry bridges and surrounding roads being upgraded into multi-lane highways/main roads. The Palm Jebel Ali has also been built and was finished at around the same time the Palm was, however, it remains empty and undeveloped till this day.
I’m here cause I booked an apartment on the trunk of the palm. I can’t wait to see it next week!!

Given the design of the islands, if they went underwater there wouldn't actually be much of them left compared to say Houston. That kind of reminds of Futurama, "The Lost City of Atlanta!"

If they would put more sand into the ocean, they could get more land and the land that is leftover (being lower in altitude) will be more usable to grow plants.

Are you serious? To build this, they had to suck up sand from the sea killing acres of marine life, it was built on a coral reef (which they just ended up buying) and it's sinking back into the sea.
They essentially spent $12 billion to build a sinking suburb. Money down the drain.
