    Corelli had the greatest and most complete technique (he could do ANYTHING with his voice), the greatest and most expressive and sensuous voice, the greatest emotional sophistication, the richest and most impactful phrasing, the best looks and he was the best actor of all tenors. He was simply THE BEST!

    I saw and heard most of the great tenors of the 60s and 70s. Franco Corelli was the greatest tenor of them all and then there were several, excellent others. I was very fortunate to hear and see him many times in person, especially when he was at his best during the mid sixties. I even got to meet him for a short, cordial encounter during the late eighties at an opera concert in Newark, New Jersey. It was an experience I'll never forget.

    • @numetutelare
      @numetutelare 7 лет назад +5

      Corelli é un tenore irripetibile e con una tecnica da brivido... Agli inizi fu detto che aveva una voce di timbro caprino, cosa ridicola, era semplicemente da affinare. Il volume della sua voce e la seguente capacità di rendere flessibile una tale mole di suono dimostrano che tecnica a parte era dotato di qualità uniche. Non rammento tenori che abbiano cantato, con la sua qualità, dal belcanto al verismo in modo eccelso. Cantò con le più grandi soprani del secolo scorso, e tutte erano ammirate della sua estrema professionalità, compresa la esigentissima Callas... Quindi nessun problema sul timbro , ma anzi ha zittito i suoim detrattori. Utima chiosa, Del Monaco e Di Stefano lo ammiravano e lo stimavano moltissimo, il che é tutto dire...

  • @swagelock11
    @swagelock11 12 лет назад +1

    AMEN. And one does not need to be an "opera expert" to FEEL it...and know it. No disrespect to the other great tenors at all. In fact, as I stated below, one could argue that like Superman, Mr. Corelli did indeed have a weakness. His "kryptonite" was his lack of the charisma that Pav displayed because of the near paralyzing "stage fright" / nerves that he battled. Kept Barbra Streisand off stage for YEARS.

    Such a shame. A man with the gifts that he had - the voice, the looks...you'd have thought that he'd be smiling all the time.
    Obviously, I'm sure that he did well for himself financially. Why would he not have had cosmetic surgery to fix his teeth if they were that bad?

    Probably because they weren't that bad in the first place (yes, he didn't have Lanza's or del Monaco's dentition but who has ?). Moreover, any kind of teeth surgery could have a detrimental impact on a singer's career (look at what happened to Alagna).
    The ''problem'' (if there was any) was that his gums became too apparent when he smiled (according to Cesarini, US producers didn't take FC for Silent Melody because of this, even if they were impressed by his looks).
