      For what achievement would warrant a Nobel Prize for Dr. Tour? A Nobel Prize for the discovery of graphene was awarded in 2010 and the Nobel Prize for molecular machines was awarded in 2016.

    As a child/teenager I did dream of a machine that took garbage in and simply distilled the material according to the periodic table. As I grew older I saw how that was not possible. Then James Tour (and his brilliant students) come along...
    It seems too fantastic to be true, but JT is such an incredibly guy - he can be mistaken, but he cannot be lying! If this flash-thing really works as well as explained, well - Hallellujah, praise be to God!

      As you grew older you saw how that was not possible because a bunch of unimaginative teachers drilled doubt into your mind, I suspect. Apply enough heat, and you will reduce any structure to it's component elements. All you have to do is figure out how to apply that heat in a well controlled manner. Easier said than done, understood, but hey, we've already done greater than that by splitting the elements themselves into smaller elements and drawing out the excess power via controlled nuclear reactions. So why wouldn't we be able to do this, given enough thought, time and effort?

      It’s too premature to make this claim. The process is not at scale so the energy input cost and the production of high quality graphene value is still net negative. However this seems very promising particularly with introduction of ML to control the thermolysis.

    Even though he faces much disagreement on the "origin of life" topic, nobody can deny his incredible contributions to science. His hard work definitely shows his expertise, and he does well to present himself as a very intelligent scientist. You have my support, Dr. Tour. Keep up your work!

    I remember what you were saying in Metaxas' SitC event a while back where you were talking about graphene use in neurological technologies; pretty wild stuff if that can be used to help heal spinal and other injuries/pathologies. Sounds also like the process to create graphene is also a more efficient and cost-effective means of recycling and getting back precious/rare earth elements out of previously mfgd products. To me, this is a BIG keypoint, as you consider the tons of plastic and other trash filling landfills, electronic trash being dumped in African coastal countries, etc., we have got to do a much better job of stewardship regarding the trash that is generated in the world. If recycling or reconstituting of materials can be done cheaply enough, then corporations will not mind implementing tech doing persuing it.

      dr. Tour and his team severed the spinal cord of a rat which paralyzed the rat from the neck down... then used graphene which reconnects the severed spinal cord... the rat eventually ran around after a while

    In medical applications once the nano cars that are seeking and destroying cancer cells for example are introduced into the body do they remain in the person's body indefinitely? .. or are they somehow removed?? How does that work..and how do they know a cancer cells from a good cell?

      Ken, I'm disinclined to listen to a science denier who publicly admits that his beliefs trump evidence.
      I strongly suggest you watch Dave's detailed demolitions which expose JTs videos as religiously motivated irrelevancies, not serious science. It's not that JT is wrong, it's that he deliberately lies.
      Since you asked, I'll give some examples and hope this encourages you to watch Dave's videos which have the details...
      Homochirality. We're not clueless, there are multiple well understood, published ways this could have happened.
      Peptide formation. Tour ignored the necessary presence of catalysts in rocks such as magnesium. Well understood.
      Lipids. They do spontaneously form membranes by electrostatic forces alone.
      Eukaryotic cells. He pretends that chemistry has to spontaneously form a modern cell. It didn't. There were many understood stages that he ignores. Including millions of years of evolution and refinement.
      We've learned nothing since Miller Urey 60 years ago. No.
      Results and significance of experiments mischaracterised or misunderstood. Please watch the videos x

    Low cost efficient low carbon footprint mass manufacture of graphene AND recycling from waste plastics freaking awesome! I have seen some of his videos criticizing the work in chemical synthesis in origin of life research but I am really impressed by his being able to produce a viable green technology to help with both energy and waste production.

    I'd never really heard of the circular econony until I saw Dr Simon Michaux thoroughly debunk it. Now Dr Tour has reverse debunked it.

      Circular economy is becoming more and more mainstream in architecture (my profession), engineering and construction through salvage and designing for deconstruction and policies encouraging careful dismantling of buildings ratherthan traditional demolition. It's a huge opportunity for reducing landfill waste and demand for raw materials. The economics behind it are very encouraging too. Lots of good work coming out of Europe and San Antonio, Texas on this. William McDonough (architect) and Michael Braungart (chemist) co-authored a book called "Cradle to Cradle" that talks a lot more about these concepts and gives practical examples in architecture and materials manufacturing. Dr. Tour's team is taking this to the next level. Very exciting.

    So these graphene nanorobots you've described at the beginning are superkillers. Isn't it more accurate to say that the people that flip the light switches/direct the special light at them are the superkillers? On another note isn't graphene toxic inside humans? I remember warnings from some teachers in school saying not to put our graphite pencils ✏️ in our mouths because it was toxic to us. Therefore even without special light directed at graphene inside us cell death will take place once it's there. I don't think Our Heavenly Father would like that.

    A problem I see here is that anyone intending to develop a process for producing Graphene on a massive scale has to consider that whichever process they choose to implement may soon be superceeded by a superior process because the science is still developing so rapidly.
    Graphene may therefore only be produced in large quantities where the need is pressing and the investment in process plant and infrastructure is moderate.
    The ramp up to mass production may therefore continue to grow at a moderate scale for a while yet.

      It comes across as an "investment opportunity" infomercial, with no down sides at all.

I don't think you understand the economics of the situation.     Yes! Cannabis stocks treated like this have been shown to be more efficient at taking and discharging electricity better than lithium, first generation dosen't hold the charge as long. How the plants are grown influences how efficient the end product is, with natural farming producing the best results conventional being the worst.

    My one concerns is with the possible weaponization of those MNMs. We've always known that it would arrive at some stage or the other but now it's here and it's for real. Someone is going to make it and use it as a threat - sooner or later.
    Would like to know how the pathogens/cancer are targeted in order to avoid damage to the healthy cells.

    Dr Tour, a question!!! At aprox 20:26 there is a slide showing an alternative to combusting CH4, which produces CO2, and the alternative will produce H2O.... what I understand is water has a la lager capacity than CO2 to act as a greenhouse gas, WHAT IS THE BENEFIT, in terms of global warming, in doing that?? Another related question, CO2 is the basis for life on earth (plants need it to live), why all the trouble to reduce our emissions??

    27:10 Could we use the water in the Berkeley Pit to leach out these rear earth metals from our fly ash? It would kill two birds with one stone! The Berkeley pit is a lake formed by an abandoned copper mine in Montana that is toxic to birds who land in its waters. The water has a 2.5 pH level.

      We already do. What's happening now is the developing of methods that can produce graphene at much lower costs, so that in the future we will see much more of it. When will all of this become commonplace and relatively cheap? No one knows. It will take years because we are talking about rebuilding global structures, but it's coming in various forms.

      @@jessebryant9233 Like I said, we already do use it. There are shoes and bike helmets that use graphene, for instance. It's used in some electronics and industrial equipment.
      It's important to realize that this is all very new, and we are still experimenting with graphene applications. But like I said, the biggest problem with widespread graphene use has been cost of manufacture. This new method promises to solve this problem. As Dr. Tour pointed out in the presentation, over the next few years more companies will be created that use this new method of graphene manufacture. Once graphene manufacture becomes more widespread and commonplace, then we will begin to see more applications of it.
      How long will that be? No one knows, of course, but we can reasonably expect to see some things sooner than later, perhaps starting in the next ten years or so for some more simple and smaller uses.
