I use a plastic palette that has an air tight lid and it will keep open acrylics wet for over a month. Nice painting by the way!

Omgosh, I'm so excited about this!!! I was trying to use up my acrylics before I went and bought oils and was soooo happy that you have discovered an acrylic that doesn't dry so fast. I'm really not a fan of using paint thinner because of my allergies so I was kind of dreading switching to oils but was going to do it to be able to paint along with you. Please do a video using the acrylics and give us the info how to obtain them. I can't tell you how happy this makes me...thanks and God bless you. You are my favorite artist on You Tube!

Golden Open has been sold at major retailers, Michaels, Joann, Blick, etc. for the past 15 plus years. Sam Golden invented acrylic paint.

Also, the beautiful thing about acrylics, you can paint your first layer in acrylic and when it is dry you can come back over it in a thin layer of oils to get the glow of oil without as long of a dry time.

One thing I like about acrylics is that as long as it's wet on the canvas you can erase small mistakes by using a damp clean brush.

Really looking forward to a detailed tutorial on the use of Golden Open Acrylic paints for use instead of Oil paint . When I saw your intro video I purchased a landscape set of golden open and have been experimenting all week with it, with very good results. I am looking forward to see what medium you suggest to replace the Gamlin solvent free gel you use. Justin the could be a big differentiator between you and the other Bob Ross style artists/trainers. Most budding new artists are put of at a very early stage when using toxic oil pants, the use of Open Golden is a very very clean alternative. I could imagine your viewing audience / subscriptions would go through the roof with you being the only instructor using the Open Golden paints for landscapes on RUclips no oils necessary. This could be the start of something bigger for your RUclips Channel and I am looking forward to start the new wet on wet acrylic journey with you. Great work Justin.

Golden open acrylics are really interesting stuff that all painters should try out. Also, I don't know if you ever tried them but Water Mixable Oil Paints are really awesome. They're exactly like regular oil paints except they can be thinned and cleaned up with just water instead of paint thinners.

My trees turned out pretty good. Now I’m trying to find how to paint frozen water. It’s also for the same painting. Congrats on your new find with long-lasting wet acrylic. I’d be interested in learning this wet-on-wet acrylic. The blending you’re talking about, I think is called scribing. 😁

This is AWESOME!!!! I'm interested about this NEW acrylics. Yes, I begin to worry and petrified when I heard one Artist said that she developed lung problem using the Turpenoid Odorless Thinner and her doctor said it looked like she had been smoking. And some develop bronchitis. And others were saying they start getting a headache and had to stop oil painting. Others said to wear a mask while oil painting...tadadada...you get my drift. Anyhoo, I'm looking on the water-soluble oil paints also. But I'm open to acrylics...

Justin I have worked with Golden Open some in the past to see how it would do and I have been impressed. However I do prefer oil paint. Recently after watching how you apply the Gamblin Solvent Free Medium on an oil painting I got to thinking about the Open paints. So I took an 8x10 canvas and covered it with Golden Open Medium. Then I did a quick wet into wet painting and it worked. Mind you I was in and out of that painting in about 30 minutes. I am not sure it would work on a large canvas but on the small canvas it worked very well. I would love to see some videos using the Golden Opens. You might also look at Chroma Atelier Interactive Acrylics as they are even more "open" than Golden Open Paints.

Yes, please! I found this lady through another RUclipsr. She has come up with a mixture that makes acrylics act like oils. I’ve tried it and it’s great. It may not stay as open as these but it does give about 30 of open time :). I have too much invested in regular acrylics to buy Open acrylics. I only learned about open acrylics after I bought a bunch of regular acrylic. I’ll send you a private message with the link.

Hi! Very nice video and demonstration. I keep bouncing back and fourth between OPEN / Fluid / Heavy Body. Between OPEN and Heavy Body, I keep thinking that I prefer wet on wet techniques more then wet on dry... I've only had the experience with Liquitex Basics and I didn't like that feel of wet paint coming in contact with the dry canvas, it seems that i'm disturbing a finish painting or something, always creating a harsh line. Because of that, my current plan is to focus my main colors in OPEN, (maybe buy only a small tube of HB White and Yellow for the max opacity when needed) and some strategic Fluid colors to do underpainting and finishing detail. I hope that makes sense.

I love acrylics specifically the Golden Fluid (they dry super quick tho) they move like cream and gorgeous pigment I'm sure the opens are great to. That's awesome acrylics dries way to quick sometimes. I wonder if u add acrylic retarder it may be more like oil dry. Thanks for sharing!

Would you recommend putting on the canvas a liquid white or magic white for acrylics when using this paint? There are formulas for liquid/magic white which is mostly a mixture of Golden Open Thinner and Golden Retarder mixed with titanium white. I read that you should not use water at all when using the Golden Open paints. I ordered a couple of these paints and am looking forward to trying them. Your comments and thoughts are greatly appreciated. BTW, I love your painting❤️

You can achieve comparable results with regular acrylics and flow medium or slow dri medium. However for thosr oil painters who don't like the toxic clean ups...check out water mixable oils, they clean up with water and are less toxic than acrylics plastics.

What is OPEN Acrylic Medium? - (Matte) OPEN Mediums are used to extend and to modify the viscosity and transparency of OPEN Acrylics while maintaining their maximum working time. OPEN Mediums may be blended with GOLDEN Acrylics, Medium and Gels, with the open time of the resulting mixtures being proportionately increased.

Hell yes. I want to see what your using bro. I paint with acrylics 99% of the time and I don't have much hair left to pull out Justin..lol lol. I have a bucket of water next to me! I have a spray bottle in one hand and a brush in the other. I hate the fact that I have to paint so fast. I like to kick back and see what the painting is revealing to me. I dont do a scetch first and I probably should. I know !! Oils are beautiful also but take forever to kick off . I've even added Japan dryer, white spirits, and penetrol together to make a mixture that leaves no brush strokes and dries much much faster that traditional practices. But!!! It will eventually crack due to the fact lean rule. But I can paint a picture and finish it before I have to collect social security. Lol
Please let me know justin what your using in the acrylics to extend dry times. I have tried using floetrol in the acrylics but that is a brush stroke removal additive for latex house paints. Interior paints like for furniture or kitchen cabinets and such. Same as penetrol for your oil paints.
Maybe I didn't have the mox right but it didn't seem to extend it that much longer before it wasn't blendable any longer. I dont know!! Just trying to find something that let's me completely do a painting in 3 to 4 days rather than months..
I'm like you bro! I do this to give me a little gratification and keep me smiling on those tough days. .
So please let me know. . That is if you want to release your secrets..
I understand if you dont also buddy. . No problem. I'll just keep experimenting till I find the holy grail. . Lol lol. Thank you so much for all you do share Justin. .

Hi Justin. I’m very excited about what you have found! I still love my oils though. I might be moving into an apartment or condo in the future and I’m concerned with being in a smaller place with the odours of the oil paints. I’m using Murphy’s soap and safflower oil to clean my brushes but there is still the odour of the oil paints. Maybe the gamblin oils are better. I haven’t used them yet. Still using older tubes of paints. As I use them up I’ll be buying gamblin. Hopefully they odour is lots less. But if not I would certainly be trying the acrylics way with you. So definitely would love to see your tutorials on this technique and see what you think of this way of painting.

I’m not sure about odors from your oil paint I have many different brands and none of them have a smell, as for brush cleaners, there is a product called Chelsea’s lavender brush cleaner that you can use while painting that works amazing, you can also thin your paint with it and there no harm no fumes that are bad completely safe to use.

Chuck Black, on his video channel very briefly talked about these and moved away from them, saying they are too transparent. Maybe they are better for followup / touchup like you did. He brought it up towards the end of the first minute of the video on paints. ruclips.net/video/2hs7KxotpL8/видео.html

What is the product. Bob Ross does wet on wet. He uses a product, which is oil based. It make the canvas slick. Other artist use a medium. He did not tell us what the product is.

Justin, I was just wondering when you were going to start doing open acrylics tutorials. I like acrylics and they do dry fast. I've tried oil but have problems with oil. I always go back to acrylics. There are not too many tutorials for open acrylics and got excited when you posted this.
