I’ve only been to Excellence Riviera Cancun and I’ve loved it. Small, easy to get around, fabulous staff and service, great food (taste and options), comfy beds and fun entertainment. Quiet areas and more active areas.
Hi Vanessa, I absolutely love your side by side comparison videos. Yes, please I'd love to see more. I like more modern, contemporary resorts also. I have stayed at Excellence Riviera Maya and Excellence Playa Mujures. I've been to Playa Mujeres 5 times and Riviera Maya once, so I guess that means I'm partial. I'd love to know your thoughts on the location in Jamaica. The management staff at Playa Mujures told me that the service in both The DR and Jamaica does not measure up to Mexico. I would love to see you do a country comparison as well. I think you did once DR vs PR. I appreciate all your comparison videos. They help tremendously. As always, great work!

I have been to EPM and Oyster Bay and I can confirm that the service in Jamaica does not hold up to the service at EPM. The staff at Oyster Bay doesn't have the same sense of urgency to please like they do at EPM, but it is totally a cultural thing. It's not terrible or a turn-off, it's just different. However, the resort at Oyster Bay is beautiful.
I've been to the Excellence Punta Cuna and Riviera Maya and the service was amazing at both. However, the service was better at Punta Cuna, in my experience.
The service at oyster bay was a1!!! I felt like family!!! There is a Jamaican time. Lol but they were friendly and welcoming food was great!! And the servers were always willing to help!! It was better that riviera maya!!!! But that’s my people so maybe they were just nice to me

Thanks so much for this side by side. We love the Excellence Brand and have visited Excellence Playa Mujeres quite a few times with another trip coming up in October. We have also visited Finest Playa Mujeres twice now and also enjoyed it. Want to try something new next year and we were torn between EPC and EEC. Your comparison is just what we needed to see to make our choice and we just booked El Carmen for next year- can’t wait!

You're right, the night life wasn't that lively but we still enjoyed it. Next on our list, Excellence Oyster Bay and Excellence Playa Mujeres!
Hi Vanessa, I stayed at the Beloved last year and loved it. This year I’m going to do something different. I booked a 15 day stay at the Excellence Punta Cana at the end of December for my anniversary. I’m splitting the stay between three different room types. First, I’m doing a swim out, next the terrace with a plunge pool ocean view and then I’m doing the Excellence club private pool. Being at the airfare is so expensive I figured I’d make the most use of my time at a resort. I looked at the El Carmen’s layout and I really didn’t like it. I’m a beach lover and El Carmen's beach is at one end property and so are the restaurants etc. so there seems like there is a lot of walking to get to those areas. When I looked at the Excellence Punta Cana, the layout is so wonderful with everything lined up against the beach. The way the main pool is set up looks fantastic. I think this will just fit me much better. I’m an older person, but active and I didn’t want to spend my vacation walking all over the place to get to where I have to go. I already live in a high-rise, so I didn’t want to go to someplace that looks like my building or a college campus. But to each their own. I simply love the rooms and private pools in El Carmen, but for me it doesn’t outweigh the brilliant way the Excellence Punta Cana is set up. So I would say for older folks, perhaps the Excellence Punta Cana might be a better fit. Love your reviews ❤😊

Hey Vanessa, I have 2 questions for you! WHY is Excellence so much less expensive than Secrets? For the same week at resorts in the same area the cost difference can be as much as $2500. What gives?? Is it the food? Which beach has better wave action? My wife likes playing in the surf 🤗 We've stayed at Secrets Moroma and they KILLED it. We were so pleased (except for the seaweed on the beech which was not their fault). Our next trip will be at an Excellence. We are still deciding between Punrta Cana and Oyster Bay. You may have had something to do with that...😉

You've been a loyal subscriber and I really appreciate it 🙏 First of all, in my experience, the food is better at the Excellence properties as a whole. I believe the rate discrepancy is due to popularity-even though Excellence flies under the radar, they have higher occupancy rates, about double, so they can afford to keep rates comparably lower versus Secrets that has to compensate for the difference. The waves at Excellence Punta Cana are no joke! The surf is strong, big waves, and they usually have lifeguards posted, but not always. If your wife is a strong swimmer, she should be fine. Otherwise, I'd be wary of going in. You could also walk closer to Bavaro Beach for slightly calmer waves to swim in. Beautiful beach though-if you guys enjoy walking on the beach, you'll be in paradise -- the beach continues for miles in either direction, and you can relax on comfy loungers under thatch umbrellas, and there are nearby bars for coconut cocktails and beer. The big perk of Oyster Bay's beach is very little seaweed, you might not see any at all depending on when you go, and the water is going to be much calmer as well. So not sure if your wife would like that as much...They're both great properties though and the dining is great. Great value as well for the quality. If you liked Secrets Maroma so much, you'll definitely be equally happy with either choice, maybe more so. Hi, never visited or stayed at the Excellence brand but we are booked into El Carmen in 3 weeks’ time. Looking forward to our suite with private pool and friends are joining us and they have a swim up suite. I hadn’t realized that El Carmen was a “younger crowd” as celebrating my 60th there - happy that it’s chic and elegant, luckily don’t look my age 😆
Loved this video, great information I'll be going to El carmen next week, a little disappointed to know it's a younger crowd but happy to know it's not a party atmosphere.

Great idea. I loved my stay last year at Secrets Akumal and would love to see how it compares against any of their other resorts especially the new or upcoming resorts by Secrets.
Probably like a lot of us, some things make me like one of the two, other factors change my mind. I like the pools at El Carmen and the better rooms, so that will probably make the choice for me.
I've chosen the beach party's git ne and pools, me and my husband are in our 40s will we feel out of place as I love to dance too. Thank you so much, time to book.

I’ve talked about that in about 10 of my videos, the General travel tip videos is where I discuss that type of thing, and it definitely helps! Especially since we do most of our traveling in the fall during hurricane season!
I thought the Punta Cana location was a dream, but for 1) the long ride from the airport and 2) one of their card dealers got caught trying to slip one by me. Strangely I thought the rooms were very contemporary, with a glass encased shower and big rain shower head, a private area off the room .. it was all pretty new-looking.

I think my favourite part was the music they have playing softly throughout the resort….I hate loud, ‘party type’ music and this was sort of a Spanish jazz/ chill music. I was so relaxed the whole trip. Food was amazing and no loud party people. Perfection. Thank you for clearing up the misconception that El Carmen is a party resort…I thought it was, glad I can go there now! Would love a secrets Akamal and Secrets Maroma Beach side by side 😊

We went to El Carmen in January 2022 and we are going to Punta Cana in February 2023. We did Excellence Riviera Cancun in April 2019 and hoping to do Playa Mujeres in April 2023.
Vanessa can you tell me if the sauna and the hydrotherapy pools are all inclusive as well or is there a fee to utilize them? Myself and 2 family members are looking at both resorts. Normally I do Iberostar Grand resorts. Also do the bathrooms have doors or is it wide open? Thanks ❤
Never been to either establishment let alone the Dominican Republic. But you had me food truck so for me the edge goes to El Carmen. Hopefully I get to visit one day.
We were looking at El Carmen for next year bc it was adults only/ all inclusive but hearing it’s not that lively I have some reservations. What’s a more party vibe, all inclusive adults only resort in DR?
I want to try the Excellence brand so bad. Unfortunately outside of my budget. They all seem to be over $5000CAD/week. Probably why it’s so good there 😢

We went to El Carmen in January 2022 and we are going to Punta Cana in February 2023. We did Excellence Riviera Cancun in April 2019 and hoping to do Playa Mujeres in April 2023.

Never been to either establishment let alone the Dominican Republic. But you had me food truck so for me the edge goes to El Carmen. Hopefully I get to visit one day.

Depends on the location, but personally I’d say the properties are so nice, that no, the extra expense can be skipped
We just came back from Playa Mujeres and loved it. Was looking forward to booking one of the properties in Punta Cana. Your list, is going to make us try both (eventually).
