New rumors have emerged that NASCAR could buy a 50% stake in the Long Beach Grand Prix. Whether this possible news means that there could be a NASCAR centered double header, multiple new series, or a simple NASCAR only weekend are yet to be seen. Today we are going to look at what could happen with NASCAR to Long Beach???

Do you think NASCAR should buy the Long Beach Grand Prix?
Absolutely! Why wait for a short track in California, when we can race in another city in the so cal area!
I think that would be amazing if they do! Definitely would Flex their muscle and stick it to the Pinnacle of Motorsports which is F1.
I miss Auto Club already, and I would love to see another track down here
I believe we should go to large cities like Chicago where more attention will be, but Long Beach would be just fine.
Leave long beach to Indycar and create your own street course and history.
IMSA, NASCAR, and Indycar at one event will be legendary
I don't think 200+ cars could fit at Long Beach (Remember we have the trucks and Xfinity series to fit as well)
@@Mr.X2188truck racing at Long Beach would be straight goofy
@Ninjagoda15
Could always do cup only or just one lower series. If just one then Xfinity fits better for road courses
@@redxraider0613 That makes sense that they would do that
They would only bring the Cup cars plus Long Beach has a lot of series racing their
Super trucks
Formula Drift

That’s close to 200 cars and haulers there at once. If NASCAR were to enter I think Formula Drift or Trucks would leave
I want to see Kobayashi punt Stenhouse into the fountain, only reason I would like it.
what did stenhouse do😂
@@mateojohns05Stenhouse has spun out Kobayashi in both of his two nascar starts
I would want to see NASCAR run a 200-mile Cup race at Long Beach.
This tells me Honda joining NASCAR is currently in the works.
And a triple-header as well. The Clash, LBGP, and Fontana (that is, if they keep racing in LA)
@@S.K.R.E.Inc. > And Fontana
That project is never going to be finished
@@Dominion69420 id rather have no fontana than whatever theyre doin to it, was my favorite track

As an avid indycar fan, I hope this doesn’t happen. Personally, if nascar were to get a 50% stake then I could see then pushing indycar out of one of their crown jewel events.
Now, I wouldn’t be opposed to nascar running on another weekend when IMSA/indycar aren’t there.
As someone who lives in Indy and has gone to the doubleheader numerous times I can confirm NASCAR fans are not IndyCar fans.
If anything it seems most NASCAR fans hate IndyCar and vice versa. And F1 fans hate both!
@@polycube868f1 fans are trying not to cope about the fact that one dude dominating every year isn’t that exciting 😂
@@thatcarguydom266 it isn't exciting...F1 was actually good 2005-2012 now we need Max to have mechanical failures to get a good race.
If NASCAR buys the Long Beach Grand Prix it will not be for a double header. Penske Entertainment would not be trying to buy the shares if this was the case.
Indycar would lose the race and potentially fall into disarray. Might even force a sale of the series either to the France family or to Liberty Media. Which either completes NASCAR's monopoly on American motorsports OR escalates the F1 war.
My guess is the latter. Kyle Larson is in IndyCar for the 500, so there is a bridge in the 2 sports. F1, on the other hand, can crash and burn in this war they're losing. First Kansas, then Chicago, and finally Vegas
@@S.K.R.E.Inc.F1 is trying to race in Kansas?!
@@polycube868 No, but the Kansas race in NASCAR beat F1 Miami in ratings and track attendance last year
@@S.K.R.E.Inc. oh ok...I was just confused as to why F1 would want to race in Kansas somewhere, and they don't.
Monopoly on American motorsports or war with F1 probably both
A cool idea is if nascar can rotate the road courses on the west coast, one year go to Long Beach, next year Portland then Sonoma etc
Oregon needs more exposure to NASCAR first, Xfinity can only do so much, but rotation is out of the question for ANYTHING NASCAR, if the Clash and the All-Star are any examples
it was on official iracing calendar and seemed like people who did it were pleased
NASCAR already owns a series that races at Long Beach
If they go to Long Beach, I assume the huge turn in the last corner will be chaos
I would think they'd be spread out enough by then that they'd be okay. I'd be more concerned with turn one and the funnel effect coming off the corner. It gets really narrow.
TBF that's not unique to them, in an IMSA race a few years back at Long Beach, there was a pile up on the last corner, cause the top 2 in GTLM(Both Chevy's) to swap positions
Most likely
It's a huge contradiction to say "Indycar fans and NASCAR fans are different" and then say that the series are rivals or compete for fans.
If you're an auto racing fan, you might like one series more than another, but you don't have anything against the others. If you're just a fan of one series and bash others, then you're just a moron. The only thing I have against F1 is that the racing itself is garbage, but I don't hate the seires as a whole, and I'd prly watch if the on track product was better. I have nothing against Indycar and enjoy watching some of the races. However, NASCAR has my soul. If I had to choose, I'm choosing a NASCAR race every time.
Most people are polarized when it comes to so many things and racing is just another one. I wish people could just appreciate all forms of racing more and stop thinking they're competing with each other when they're really not.
As an IndyCar fan first and foremost, I agree. I may not watch much NASCAR these days, but ultimately I respect it as a form of racing that a huge portion of the motorsport audience in America loves. I wish NASCAR leadership themselves would share your outlook. If they buy the Long Beach Grand Prix and push IndyCar out of its second biggest event (which I believe would be the likely outcome), it'll be just another of their decisions based around seeing other series like IndyCar as direct competitors, which actively harms American motorsport as a whole, regardless of how much "business sense" it makes for NASCAR themselves.
@robhuibregtse3155 I'll lose a lot of respect for NASCAR leadership if they do that, and I already ain't got much...they would do something petty like that to hurt IndyCar, they stain tracks with PJ1, they block them from racing at ISC tracks, they would totally be backstabbing race stealers too.
@@polycube868Long Beach is a street CIRCUIT THAT HAS NORMAL DAILY CARS ON IT WHEN it’s not being raced
If nascar goes to long beach they are gonna need the following things for the cars to pass each other more easily
750 or 770 hp
Narrow softer compound tire
1 inch spoiler
No splitter
No rear diffuser
Smaller brakes
Otherwise the race will have very little passing
The thing is the New car is to flat on the bottom which is why they have the diffuser and splitter
All this...no...😂😂😂
You think NASCAR will take any of that into consideration...not the 1st race at least. 😂😂They take a while to realize things
Indycar can have its race and Nascar can have its race to in Long Beach just not on the same weekend. With Nascar selling the California Speedway land and The Clash not knowing where it's going to be racing at next time. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy Nascar is maybe coming to my hometown.
It would be certainly be interesting when it comes to the schedule. What issues arise, what solutions are brought forward, what tracks are moved around and all that jazz.
Man I'm a fan of both but indycar needs this more. I'd hate to see them lose it. I wish penske would figure its shit out before they lose honda and Long Beach. Big ouch
I'm a motorsports fan in general and watch NASCAR and IndyCar, so I personally loved the double header weekends to see both series working together and having moments at the track together, and I hope they do more in the future, especially the street races so you don't have to worry about shutting down another city for a separate race/series.
However, I wasn't aware that it was as nice and simple as I thought it was. I understand that the fans are different, but didn't realize it was that drastic a difference where they'd just leave before the next day... I also understand that it can hurt IndyCar to have their race on a Saturday, while NASCAR takes the primetime spot on Sunday, but to go so far to block NASCAR outright is a bit surprising, though I guess Long Beach is one of IndyCar's top races of the year, so if it was the other way and IndyCar was wanting to take....maybe like a Darlington Sunday and move NASCAR to Saturday? Yeah, I imagine NASCAR wouldn't be too happy either.
Maybe Long Beach isn't the best place to do it, but again, I hope NASCAR and IndyCar can do those double headers again, maybe at a less popular spot for IndyCar where a Saturday Race won't be as harmful to their ratings, or even wait a week after IndyCar has their event. Maybe Toronto streets next year (though, that might also be a bit of a stretch)?
NASCAR racing there yes. Owning it no. Long Beach is 1 of IndyCar's crown jewels. NASCAR has already took away tracks for IndyCar to race at. They don't need to lose more great events.
Yep and Phoenix is a great example NASCAR owns Phoenix and reconfigured the track entirely and now when IndyCar tried to race there they can't even go on the apron or they will wreck.
Heck, I say a trade. TexARSE for Long Beach, seeing as they race great over there, but NASCAR doesn't for any reason at all, and it would secure NASCAR's foothold on the schedule over SMI
Larson tested an IndyCar there couple months back and was fine.
Indycar needs more tracks on the schedule if anything, they don’t need to lose one of their crown jewels
I realize they can’t do it the same weekend the area is cramped enough with indycar and IMSA, but I think they could run it either the weekend before the Long Beach Grand Prix or the weekend after it and adjust the NASCAR calendar accordingly
Long Beach is a great looking circuit, not sure about passing zones. The fountain corner could be hectic on restarts tho 😂
I think they should go back to road America in the near future.
i think nascar should chill on the road courses/street races til we figure out how to make this package actually interesting.
It’s gonna be interesting to see if NASCAR actually pursues this, where they put it. I’m personally not against road courses, but with a large part of the fanbase is complaining about the amount of road courses, it’ll be interesting to see where this would fit in in a universe where they’re also pursuing having races internationally where there’s a high chance they’ll be on a road course
Forget about it, Gerald Forsythe just bought the 50 percent stake. This is straight from the RACER site, "The estate has agreed to sell its 50% to me,” the industrialist and former owner of the Champ Car series told RACER. “If [any series] has its sights on Long Beach please tell them to look elsewhere. This [is] an IndyCar event, and it will be into the future.”
I live 20 minutes from Long Beach so I would love to see this happen, hopefully on a different weekend from Indycar though because I don’t want them to lose their 2nd most prestigious race.
There are two answers to whether this is a good thing or not.
The product: try it. There's no reason not to with the way the Chicago course turned out. If IMSA can race there, it's at least worth a shot.
The market: It's a no brainer. Southern California has a huge population despite its problems and is an absolute goldmine, you have to have a race there.
3 attempts tried and failed. And they've been going at it since 1951
One thing to keep in mind is that in addition to NASCAR, Liberty Media (the same people who own F1) are also interested in buying the 50% stake in the Long Beach GP meaning if they somehow bought it, the Long Beach GP could easily revert back to being an F1 race for the first time since the early 80's likely replacing the Vegas or Miami GP on the schedule. Liberty Media would have a good reason to do this as it would give them access to the LA market & consolidate their growth in the US. This would also hurt both Indycar & NASCAR big time as F1 would likely block both series from racing at Long Beach. There is also the potential of other FIA affiliated series like the WEC or Formula E racing there if Liberty Media buys the stake. Even though this sounds unlikely when compared to the NASCAR bid, it is certainly possible.
Nascar is more likely to win that bid compared to liberty media
I would love to see NASCAR race Long Beach. While racing on a street course might not be the best racing, it’s such a picturesque setting to see these cars race in. Plus this would be a marketing dream for NASCAR
I’m from Long Beach and I think it would be great especially to gain publicity for the Netflix series
Throw in a NASCAR/Indycar doubleheader weekend and I’m in
I don’t know. I heard their going to Short Beach.
A few months ago there was a race at Long Beach with the Next Gen cars on iRacing. And iRacing is a partner of NASCAR so...
I love nascar and I love indycar, I really hope they don't kill each other

@@Kamik62 Your mickey mouse series will never be the best racing in America.
Can’t we all just say screw f1 and be friends?
@@ZontarDow are you sure about that?
@@ZontarDow heck I can even say Nascar will buy indycar just like IMSA.
Simple answer. Yes.
As a NASCAR and IndyCar fan, I don’t want to see NASCAR force IndyCar out of the Long Beach GP. If it’s a NASCAR-IndyCar double header great, otherwise no thank you. I don’t care if it is a cut-throat business, something’s you just leave alone. Besides it was NASCAR that forced IndyCar out of COTA if I understood that correctly. I think it was a DavidLand video I got that from.
This could be devastating for IndyCar. IndyCar is lucky to bring in a third of the TV viewers that NASCAR gets, so taking away their most prestigious event outside of the Indy 500 would be catastrophic.
IndyCar deserves better. The on-track racing is too good.
Needs Taylor Swift to invest in her own team, that would bring attention to it!
T Swift IndyCar Team would be awesome!
I think nascar racing in new orleans is probably good
I mean NASCAR can just take IMSA's spot if it wants, since IMSA is owned by NASCAR as far as I'm aware.
If NASCAR goes to Long Beach, how will the drivers navigate turn 11 (The tight hairpin) and turn 3 (Fountain area)??
Sure but I think we need to shrink the Schedule down to 29-30 races how to do that cut races in mid July and August. There’s room to take 5-7 races out in the summer
This something I thought NASCAR should have done before attempting Chicago street race. A couple seasons in Long Beach then move to another city.
The race could be great or a disaster. I played Forza Motorsport 7 with the NASCAR cars the AI crashed in the first lap. I think NASCAR would need to use the Formula E layout so passing is feasible.
Forza is historically horrid at siming stockcars, and console AI is the absolute lowest in adaptability and easiest to confuse. I seriously can't imagine how anyone with any semblance of sentient intelligence could use Forza to argue how real people would handle real race cars on a real course. Wow...smfh
WillowSprings or LagunaSeca over LongBeach
Let's run the Clash at Long Beach Good testing ground because if it's terrible, well nobody's season got wrecked because no points were won or lost. If it's great, make it a points race and permanently remove Phoenix or Vegas from the schedule.
When you say NASCAR everyone assumes CUP...... NASCAR owns alot ......could it be for an IMSA race or their MEXICAN series.......Only time will tell.....
Well Indycar at 12pm and the Cup Series at 3:30pm should work
Ran long beach on iracing recently. It was a blast
NASCAR at Long Beach would be interesting
In fact, make it a 213-mile race (see what I did there?)
Yes
I would love a Long Beach race, but idk why nascar keeps trying to get the California fans they don’t care about nascar.
I've been advocating this for years
Forsythe who owns the other 50% is buying the whole thing and has said that it will stay an indycar event
All of the streets courses in indycar long Beach is really my favorite so I think it would be better for nascar than chicago.
I still feel like it should work as an endurance tripleheader (race at the streets, then drag race to the nearby speedway and immediately race 4-500 miles)
Why doesn't NASCAR race at Laguna Seca??
I've heard that Gerald Forsythe, who owns a 50 percent stake in the Long Beach GP will buy the other half to keep it as a Indy Car race.
I’ve been suggesting this for years
Nascar around the final turn hairpin would be... interesting
I would love Nascar at long Beach
I was thinking about this when they first announced they were going to Chicago. I think this would be a great event and investment. I'm also pretty bias being from SoCal but I would love to see how this goes
After that success, it definitely should be in Long Beach. That is the PINNACLE of street racing that isn't Monaco
They could race inside Dodger Stadium and its gonna be better than the Coliseum.
Honestly I kinda want more street courses. Chicago was (debatably) a success so why not?
i do too but not too much I think there should be 7 road courses 3 of them being street circuits, 3 would be traditional and the last being the Charlotte Roval
@@charlespetersonjr1994I agree but I think there should be only 1 to 2 street courses!
@@charlespetersonjr1994 I think 8-9 road courses, as much as it may be, might be better. You'd have 3 street circuits (Long Beach, Montreal, and Mexico City), 4-5 traditional (Portland, Watkins Glen, Sonoma, COTA, and perhaps Road America), and then the Charlotte Roval. This maximizes and adds to the audience markets. The reason i didn't put the Chicago Street Race is that I think you can split that market into two markets for two tracks: Road America and Chicagoland.
@@elijahjp2158 they should decrease the road courses to 5 and have a rotation. and add Chicagoland back to the schedule.
This will be a great move by Nascar Xfinity& Cup series.
I think one thing you forgot to mention is that a double header cannot work at Long Beach currently because IMSA also races there, and atleast for next year they are still at Long Beach.
I wouldn't mind Nascar racing at Long Beach but I wouldn't want a double header with IndyCar if it meant IMSA lost their spot. While Long Beach might not be the mosy exciting IMSA race, it is unique. Seeing prototypes and GT cars racing through the streets is something you dont really get to see elsewhere (granted IMSA is doing a double header now with Indy at Detroit so ut isnt the only street track on the schedule anymore).
I personally think NASCAR should can the Long Beach idea. Rebuild Fontana (hate the reconfiguration, but there’s no turning back) and keep it in its normal slot on the schedule. Bring a short track package that drivers want, and bring back the truck series to Fontana.
On top of that, either a) make it an evening/night race for either of the 3 series, or b) bring the season finale to Fontana, while retaining the early schedule slot. We need 2 races here a year since our high speed home was demolished. With rising prices of everything here in Southern California, let’s keep it affordable while we’re at it.
Need more road races
@@NoName-gv6pi I’m not opposed to more road courses, just not a fan of them throwing money at temporary circuits. There’s 5 road courses on the Cup schedule this year and Xfinity has the Portland track additionally. It would be cool to see them race at Laguna Seca, or have them cycle between Laguna/Portland/Montreal annually.
This is a interesting idea
Kind of Weird how We were Showed a Clip of Denny Hamlin Bumping out Joey Logano, a Team Penske Driver In The 2024 LA Clash when @TheIceberg said That Penske Is Trying to Keep NASCAR from Long Beach In My Opinion
Auto Club Speedway is supposed to be getting turned into a short track but so far it's stalled
If Penske doesn't want NASCAR to take over Long Beach, then he needs to buy that 50%. Long Beach is one of the crown jewels in Indy Car, so Penske can't lose that race.
Actually Nascar is richer than Penske
Especially after Penske sold Auto Club to NASCAR (under ISC at the time) in 1997 shortly after its debut. It wouldn't be the first time they do something like that
@@Kamik62 Penske's net worth is $3.8 billion. It will be how much Penske values that Long Beach date for Indy Car vs. how much NASCAR values having a street race in Long Beach to serve the Southern California market. It very well could turn into a bidding war. Both Penske & NASCAR don't make foolish decisions when it comes to making & spending money. 👍

Like I said, both NASCAR & Penske didn't become successful by making foolish business decisions. They might get into a bidding war, or the Kevin Kalkhoven family might just sell straight-up to Penske since Kalkhoven's heart was in Indy Car, who knows. I was just giving my opinion; if you find it humorous, then so be it.
Lets see is my answer every time
Yea its definitely over for Autoclub and we need more ovals we have to many Rc on the schedule being back more ovals like Chicagoland 1.5 mile tracks that this car excels at
Nah, we need skill drivers
Auto Club should have never been reconfigured, they could have made it a unique supertrack with all that land and open to the public for street racing 24/7 (reducing speeding and crashes), with office towers mirroring Darlington's, townhomes rivaling Atlanta's duplexes, and a transportation hub that would put the Coliseum to shame. But no, they chose the easy way out
Nascar at Leguna Seca would be cool.
Let's f**k over Indycar one more time.....
We should do street style corses more than COTA F1 style tracks. More mistake generators makes for a better show.
Long as they stat away from Grade 1 circuits.
NASCAR vs INDYCAR and Penske in between
I would like to see NASCAR race more in California, even outside of Southern California. If we don't get a race in Long Beach maybe we can go to other big cities like San Francisco, Sacramento, or even San Diego. There's other big cities in California that I think NASCAR can do a race there that would not only attract motorsports fans but fans from other sports in the area. Those cities I mentioned have some big fanbases.
San Francisco and Sacramento have Sonoma, whilst LA is without a race for now. And the day NASCAR races in San Diego is the day Dale Jr tries Baja racing
