Probably the best live recorded version of any tune in history.
In almost 60 years, no one has even come close to singing this song better than Bobby. A million years from now, people will be saying the same thing. It will ALWAYS be considered the GOLD standard for this song.
No auto tune, just pure vocals.
This was from the "Andy Williams Show" in 1965 and you need to play the whole clip where Andy introduces them. Bobby Hatfield sang this song solo and this is by far the best live performance ever, IMHO : )
I have tears listening to this. This was my mom and dad's song. He was a US Navy pilot for 27 years. They spent half their married life apart with him going to sea (3 times to Vietnam), until he retired in 1977. They are slow dancing to this in heaven.
❤❤❤
Beautiful memories. God bless your Dad for his sacrifice.❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
This was the song that my mom and dad had their first dance to at their wedding. This was also the first dance song at my wedding. My all time favorite.
I remember so clearly when the Righteous Brothers first hit the air waves. We only heard them on the radio at first. Most folks assumed they are black gentlemen. A lot of jaws dropped when we saw them on television. Their music was soon known as blue eyed soul. Amazing talents. Bobby Hatfield singing this song, still brings tears to my eyes, even now at 77 years old. Still the greatest! He died too soon around 2003, I believe. Bill is still alive, with his rich baritone voice. So sad to think Bobby Hatfield is no longer with us.
Also. This was live on the Andy Williams show 1965. Bobby's mother was in the audience to hear him sing. He also was suffering from a cold.
Pure top shelf.
This is Bobby Hatfield, one of the 2 “brothers.” The other is Bill Medley, a baritone. You’ll hear his vocals best in I Just Wanna Make Love To You and You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling. Incredible singers who got their name performing for black American soldiers, who apparently said, “That’s righteous, brother!”
OMG the late Bobby Hatfield. His voice wss so awesome. That's the way our guys dressed in the 1960's. So classy!
My husbsnd likes this kind of clothing. We grew up in the 60's. ❤❤❤❤
Great reaction. I'm always impressed knowing that this was a live performance!
You Should see the beginning of the clip. It’s an Andy William show and all of them ware that colour I think because was dedicated to Valentine day. They explain the reasons of their name, they are not actualy brothers. Did you noticed how you began lightly and became amaized by his countertenor voice 😍 ? They were top group in the 60’s , incredible hits ! They were awarded the Best New Singing Group in the Billboard Disc Jockey Poll in 1965. The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10, 2003. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005. So sad they seem to be forgoten 😢. And so glad that young people like you are looking to know how the oldies amused at that time !! Bobby rerecorded this song to the film Ghost 25 years later and again an astonish hit , and nominated to the Grammy award Best Pop Performance by a duo or group in 1990.
Salmon color blazer.
Bobby Hatfield sang this solo live
On “The Andy Williams Show
On Oct. 25, 1965.
On the recorded version his partner Bil Medley sang background and played the piano. He also produced the track.
I was 6 when my mum put this song on for me still love it now
He is a counter tenor known as "blue eyed soul". i've heard this is the best live performance ... no auto tune, no re-takes, no tricks .. just pure talent
Best version hands down of this classic song. Absolutely loved the Righteous Brothers. Sadly we lost Bobby Hatfield about 20 years ago. He had a beautiful one of a kind voice. Home Free recently did a great version of this song. And Austin Brown (from HF) also did a very beautiful tribute of this song a couple of years ago.
Bobby was found dead on Nov. 5, 2003 in his hotel room in downtown Kalamazoo, MI.
This is Bobby Hatfield, one of the greatest singers ever recorded. No comparisons
Bobby’s low notes are as goosebump inducing as his forays into the stratosphere. Most of the music has the voice yodeling on the vowels and it could sound like a mush, but listen to his crisp but unexaggerated consonants. Every word is made clear because of the way he blends melisma with fine word pointing.
There were two brothers. Only one of them sang on this song. A coin was flipped and Bobbi Hatfield won the coin toss
Good reaction. I didn't go through all the comments but the song is from a move titled Unchained from the 1950s. The man is being released from prison and is wondering if his wife still has feelings for him. Bobby Hatfield does a good job, live, one take, no auto tune, just talent with a great orchestra accompaniment from the Andy Williams show.
Magnificent voice and control and range. Bobby made this his own. Best life performance I’ve ever seen.
It's Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. Together they are the Righteous Bros. This is Bobby doing a solo. Bill does Solo's as well, like Old Man River. Check it out.
Listen to 'You've lost that loving feelings and 'Soul and Inspiration '. You'll hear them together.
Small mic: It was intended to stay in the mic stand, hence so small, but he grabbed it out of the stand. Check out both "brothers" in You'll Never Walk Alone, you won't be disappointed.
You have to remember it’s 1965 and we have everything because of this first
This song was a Bobby Hatfield solo. Bill Melody was off stage and him and Bobby were the Rightous Brothers. The suit is Coral and this was from them on the Andy Williams Show. This song was also played in the movie Ghost. A nougher song was in the movie Top Gun which was You've Lost That Living Feeling. Some other great songs from them are Soul And Insperation, and Rock N Roll Heaven by them. Check them out!
Great reaction!!
I appreciate that Melissa.😄😄
This was on the Andy Williams show...He was also a singer...Moon River was his signature song...Also this song was during the Vietnam War... 💛
When the Righteous brothers sang it always looked effortless.
Someone said everyone on this episode of the Andy Williams Show wore pink and it signified something. Awesome stuff! The guys were lifelong friends and not real brothers and if you listen to the intro to this song, it’s explained how they got their name. The mic is tiny because it’s wired and didn’t have Wi-Fi components inside.
What a great review of a true classic. ❤ Surprised to hear you love opera... If you haven't, PLEASE do a reaction to Amira Willighagen appearing with famous conductor Andre Rieu. This is the best version, and she was only 9 yrs old at the time. 😌
This is Bobby Hatfield and his partner is Bill Medly are the Rightous Brothers. Bobby sings solo on a few songs and Bill does a few himself.
Check out them both singing
You’ve lost That Loving Feeling
Soul and Inspiration
You’ll Never Walk Alone
He sings this song alone!
It's called Salmon for his suit, and there's two he is doing a solo
I remember all the songs in the 60s coz I grew up in it will never be another century like the 60s
The 60's were a decade and not a century
Summertime by bobby Hatfield is insane💖💖💖
This is a love song to slo-dance to and leave all the turmoil that was going on in the world and be in heaven for 5 minutes with the girl I was with at that time in1965.
There is a longer video, of the same show where this song featured. Perhaps the version you chose did not include the introduction or perhaps you elected not to view through the duration. Anyway the longer vid with intro gives a better insight into who the Righteous Brothers are, how they got their name and a peek into their personalities. Nonetheless it has been a pleasure watching your reaction, as always.
You need to listen to Bobby singing Summertime. Also both the guys on The Ed Sullivan singing You'll Never Walk Alone. Also for fun Little Latin lupe lu...their first hit.
Interprétation extraordinaire ! Quelle voix ! Une merveille !
This version was even better than the studio cut released as a B side of a *45 which charted twice. From his hair to his suit and pinky ring Bobby and his talent and performance always exuded pure 4:26 class. Catch them both in 'Youll never walk alone' and many others. *Hung on you was the reverse side.
It was on the movie Ghost
Blue eyed soul brother ❤
This film clip is from The Andy Williams Show Valentines Day Special on February 14th. 1965.
If this had been the longer clip we would have seen Andy Williams, a singer in the same caliber as Tony Bennet, Dean Martin and Sinatra, Andy was wearing a pink pullover and white trousers; Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley were dressed identically. Andy talked with The Bros for a couple of minutes and Bobby did most of the talk back, and he was huffing and puffing, not quite gasping for air; he was suffering from an upper respiratory infection, a cold, bronchitis?
He also suffered from severe stage fright; he would vomit rather violently before going onstage.
If that wasn't bad enough, his mother was in the audience watching him perform live for the very first time and he was very worried that he might disappoint her; I think it's safe to say that he disappointed no one.
This song has been covered hundreds of times, in every conceivable style, yet Bobby's Valentines Day rendition is The Gold Standard that many have tried to equal, but I doubt that it's going to happen anytime in the next 250 years, if ever.
Ladies use to throw their panties and hotel room keys at Tom Jones' feet when he was in concert, but that wasn't on TV. It has been mentioned that after Bobby finished his song and the applause died down, one could hear the sounds of dozens upon dozens of pairs of damp panties hitting the floor; it is possible that this performance of Unchained Melody was responsible for an 8% increase in the number of births in the late fall of 1965. 💣💥
.Runs are fast displays of vocal agility where different notes are sung one after another very quickly. They're a melodic feature. The mics were small because they were made of metal, and not to tire out the singer holding them. This song was written for a prison movie Unchained in 1955. This song has been covered over 1500 times by 670 artists in multiple languages. I think Bobby is the best.
from back in the daynwhen you had to sing.
Live and no auto tune with antiquated audio systems
The best info that l can give you for The Best technical info on Bobby Hatfield singing Unchained Melody is to check out the YT reactor/analyst The Charismatic Voice, an opera Diva and vocal coach, she takes about 23 minutes to break down Bobby's vocal technique and she takes great delight in every second of "Bobby's Song"; it has been covered by probably hundreds of singers, but no one equals, or even comes close, to Mr. Hatfield.
Bobby Hatfield's suit color is salmon.
I love the Rightious Brothers. U should check out the Bee Gees..to much heaven and staying alive.
bobby hatfield is a tenor singer
There’s two of them, but one sits out on this one.
If it was the whole clip the singing partner is there. This was solo because of the voice.
Listen to You've Lost that Loving feeling
FIRST OF ALL !!!
The suit is Salmon in color
He has BIG hands 🙌
Bobby turned down professional baseball to become a professional singer. Thank God he did. His voice was a Gift from God and he knew how to use it!
Bobby had a six octave rangr.
Technically it's called Melisma. Those are the runs that he employs using the pentatonic scale. It's a staple of Gospel and R&B singers.
You're funny. I laughed.
Probably a salmon colored suit. This is a goose bump song. Check out the RUclipsr "Wings of Pegasus". Fil breaks down the details very well for this song. Very educational.
And remember this was LIVE on TV back in1965.
No auto tune.
He is still alive, the other one passed away…..
This is live n he has stage fright plus wasn’t feeling well that night, so just think how he will sound if he was feeling great…..
Tambourine
He sang it solo
We had small mics because their only purpose was to boost sound. No auto tune. No auto correct. Either the singer had a great voice or no one was interested.
Effortless singing, see how calm n relaxed he is……. Remember this is 1964 the mics we’re different
좋아요 😀 👍
There’s two but he sings this song alone
Yes there is two brothers that sings but this one song this is the one that could only sing this song
This was his solo performance. The other gentleman did not join him for this number. They were both magical.
레전드 노래듣고있어요?
They are absolutely the best and Bobby Hatfield is best who sings this one by himself
Over 670 singers recorded this song including Elvis. It was the most played song of the 20th Century. I don’t need to hear anyone else sing it to know that Bobby owned it, later on his record company tried to take the rights of his version. Bobby won in Court.
Notice how quiet thee audience was back then. It was good manners. Bobby and Bill often sang songs and made records on their own and then together again. They didn’t do a bad song. Listen to them both sing I’ll Never Walk Alone. It has a great ending too.
The suit is pink, close to a salmon pink in Australia and I mean fresh salmon not canned. Can you tell I am an artist.😂 Salmon in America is farmed and because of what they feed it it is dark grey. They use a chemical to dye it pink and it is banned here and in other Countries. Don’t eat it. Thank you.
샤이니♡♡최고보이그룹
This was a live not one gimmick
요즘친구인데?나도요즘한국에서최고친구라요
You need to back up this video to see the amusing chat with both the “brothers” and Andy Williams, whose show this was.
Bill and Bobby had decided to do one single on each album and this was the first song. They both wanted to do it, so they flipped a coin and Bobby won. Thank God, because Bill’s deeper voice is not suited to the song.
The color would be considered Salmon...
