Returning Subscriber Here! I'm about to come up on a year of being on RUclips, and I can admit that I use to compare my channel to others a lot and tried playing the games they play, which most big gaming channels do first person horror games, I've even tried out a couple myself and couldn't finish them like the others can, so I'm just sticking to the games I personally like and happen to be into, which are RPGs and suprisingly Psychedelic games, I know its odd but after playing one psychedelic game on my channel i want to finish it, but I've noticed from playing RPG Maker games i've gained some audience from it, especially when i started playing Undertale, but since my channel got deleted I have to start all the way over again, but after being on RUclips for a while, I was real consistent with my content too, I stopped worrying about if I could gain more views and subscribers, I'm not sure if that's a bad thing but I almost made the mistake of talking to someone who could help me promote my channel, anyways enough of me yapping, I just wanted to come back to this video and thank you for the tips
They’ve also been doing RUclips for manyyyy years. They are far more established than someone new creating content. Over saturation today has caused a shift in how a gaming channel can be best grown. You won’t find new big channels that have grown in the last 1-3 years doing variety, it’s extremely difficult today to do it like that.
Thanks for the tips man! I started this gaming channel last week and I'm trying to do my best on this talking in english even if It's not my First language.. Let's see where it'll land 🙂 you got a sub here 👍
I've only just started uploading, thank you for the tips, I'm going to stick with 100% completions with a face cam/commentary, it's difficult to show so much energy all of the time when you're recording for hours on end, so I'm honestly winging it, and just being myself, I'm not one to raise my voice or go over the top with my reactions, I would rather grow a community that sees me as more of a natural gamer. I've seen so many channels that try to do 100% completions but then stop half way through and it has always annoyed me, so I'll be working on actually completing them, with rapid uploads, I also just want a place to document all of my future playthroughs, and RUclips is the perfect place to do that, I guess we'll just see how it goes, starting out with the new Path of Exile league. :)
Thanks for content. I've tried a game channel before, but it's always failed. My motivation and willpower were broken. But this video was good for me!!! Starting again!
This is a really good video, and some points you've mentioned are things I am guilty of myself. Specifically comparing myself to others, such as much larger gaming channels who focus on the no commentary gameplay as I do, and being disappointed in their content which leads me to ask why people watch their stuff when it's clearly subpar. Not to say that I think I am better than anyone, but more that I am putting in effort into what I am producing, and wondering why I am not picking up these subscribers / viewers. In any case, creating videos on RUclips is very fun, and trying to find your niche to stand out in a saturated space is a challenge but can be very rewarding.
Depends on the algorithm in some instances, and in how new your channel is. Also, it depends on their viewer base. Their established members will likely watch them over anyone else if the content is comparable. Trust. Relationship. Guy has been watching Tuber for 6 years and will not easily start watching a new channel with the same content. People might watch 3 channels with the same content, max. Build your own viewer base. Those viewers are more likely to bring in viewer bases from other creators. Be yourself. Always. Go nuts. Be introverted. Be special. Be you. (I am not used to talking when playing games. Yes, i talk. Mumble to myself and talk nonsense, but i am not used to talking to people who are physically not there). I talk more watching an episode of Resident Alien.
But, also take into account that you can learn a lot from established creators and their viewers bases. Learn what you have to do while being yourself to improve your content. After that, all you can do is wait. (Not sure if you are allowed to do polls concerning other creators. Could ask youtube viewers why they love content from these creators.)
Amazing tips keep going midnight am doing gaming even though I don't have all the setups, buh the good news is am on PS4 so I use the share factory, I can say I'm improving in editing cus am watching alot of videos across RUclips and it's helping me alot thanks bru.....
I don't care what anyone says. Anyone telling people starting a gaming channel to play only one game has no idea what they are talking about. Gamer's I have been watching for years who have tens of millions of subscribers never played just one game. Gaming is already a niche. There is no point to further kneecap yourself by tucking a niche into a niche. Look at it this way. If you were selling fruit, would you only sell grapes? It would be ridiculous because other fruit sellers aren't cutting themselves off at the knee. They are going to attract people who like apples, oranges and bananas too. So, who's going to sell more fruit... the guy selling grapes, or the guy selling every fruit known to man? All that being said, he is right about your channel being a business. I started a website development and hosting business in 2003 after the business I worked for closed. Website developing and hosting are separate but related niches. You can offer one with the other but they are not same same, as I like to say. Games, are not separate niches, but there are different genres of games [e.g. shooters, RPGs, simulation]. Limiting yourself to a genre is a whole lot different than limiting yourself to one game. IMO, It would make more sense to limit yourself to one genre over limiting yourself to one title within a genre. Businesses sell products and/or a service. Where RUclips is concerned, it's akin to say Amazon as a marketplace where you'll find many different products by different sellers. You, in this instance, are the product. You have to sell yourself. As pointed out in the video, coming off as though you just dragged yourself out of bed is not a way to sell yourself. Think of yourself as a customer service agent. You need to interact with your customers. Personality is important. Being personable while talking about something funny that happened to you is a good way to do that. Interact with your customers. We want to know that we are appreciated. When we feel welcomed, and are having a good time, we more likely to come back for more. That, in my opinion, is the key to a successful gaming channel. And, oh by the way. It isn't Cost Per Mile. It's Cost Per Mille. Mille is Latin for thousand. You get paid per 1000 views. 1000 = one thousand.
Thanks for the advice! I have a long way to go, but I love to learn more about video editing and presentation skills, so I see every video as a step forward 😊
Just started RUclips like a month ago it's always been a dream for me to do I'm going to keep at it I enjoy making my content even if it does not work out thanks for the tips man.
Tip no 7. Well people dont need to show their face as long as they show their avatar. Usually there is such thing as vtubers. If your model is great and expressive you are good.
This is an awesome video! There are many great takeaways. Thank you for taking the time and producing the content to shine light on these areas. I will be using some of these tips for sure! 💯
It’s definitely harder than people think it is… you have to have the consistency and creativity to keep people engaged and coming back. That’s not easy to do… especially in today’s world. I’ve had a gaming channel running for around 8 years now and while I myself have improved… the channel has not. Well… not that much anyway… but it DOES depend on what you’re uploading and what people are searching for at that moment in time… which is always changing. It’s also good to know when viewers are most active… timing your uploads and making good thumbnails. But even with that mindset in place… you can only get so far… and that’s even IF your channel has enough data to provide you with that information. Most channels don’t… and it might be because they don’t post often enough or they’re just not getting enough watch time. Back in the day… people would post 2 to 3 videos daily… and some of those are big names we know today. One of them being Markiplier. I just feel like people aren’t completely committed to that and post like once a month or they lose sight on what ACTUALLY gets views and don’t stick with it…and even if they DO stick with it… they don’t find it as enjoyable as what they WANTED to do in the first place and then eventually get burned out on it. Also… just because you make content that is ACTUALLY engaging to people… it’s not gonna stay that way forever. Things get old with time… people move on… then you gotta find something else. Which is why a lot of RUclipsrs don’t stay the same and change up their content. They do it with strategy. But they also change as a person. But it depends on who you are I guess and what audience you’re going for. Look I’m not trying to be a stick in the mud… but it’s just not as easy as it used to be to become successful in this market because there are WAY more people doing it these days and they all want the same thing… this has made the market become very saturated over time… and has made it harder for people to get discovered… aside from everything I’ve just said though… I WILL not lose faith! Not yet! Thank you for this insightful video. Much appreciated!
One thing I’m doing that goes against these tips is that I’ve been posting videos of different games so far, but it’s mostly for practice. I’m enjoying the process, learning more each day, and hopefully with time I’ll find my niche
I just started a RUclips channel and uploaded my first video. I winged it and looking back it was a big mistake. Gonna start recording my platinum playthrough of Demon's souls this week, really excited
I would say most of this applies to streaming on twitch too! I think once I get the ps5 camera and they can see how I look while playing the viewers will go up. Voice over don’t tend to do well unless you have a silky/pleasing voice! I like the idea of sticking to a certain style of game too. If people come to you for fps games they might not want to see you playing an rpg. It all depends.
this was very informative! Im getting into streaming and all of these tips of what not to do, i do 😆 so this was nice to hear and pin point what exactly i need to change. I only stream and post clips on social media right now until i get my desktop to record and edit from, but until them im putting something out, even if its just a reel. When i do start posting on my channel ill now know what audience i want to target and keep it specific, because i was about to just post me playing all kinds of games 🤣 but that may not be the best idea, anyways, thanks a lot!!
Growing a gaming channel really is hard. I’ve been at it for a couple months now. I’m happy with the little community I’m building rn. Currently have 268 subs no plan on stopping soon either so I’m sure with some patience I’ll get somewhere😂
my mistakes are editing videos i need to learn more about that in order to make a better channel. With all Honesty THANKS TO YOU I WAS ABLE TO MAKE MY OWN STREAMING GAMING CHANNEL! THANKS LOTS! ✌
Yea man, I'm guilty of some of these things, but as I go I'll learn. I won't give up. I wish I was in that evaluation of my game channel, but I think I'm getting an understanding of it. Thanks again
Thank you for the help♥️. I am currently editing a video and I rewatch it to check if a part is too boring and I feel like skipping the video I cut it out of make it interesting 😁
I guess making better thumbnails as mine look super basic, making the quality better, be able to do 60 fps, and being much more consistent. I’ve been making videos for almost a year however I haven’t been that consistent due to having a job. Starting next year I will get into full force with making videos as well as live streaming. I realized that if you want to have a successful gaming career, you have to treat it like a full time job which I will be doing starting next year. Eventually the time will come, just keep being consistent and keep on improving.
That's really really really makes sense. I thought gaming WAS a specific channel's content ideas which is target a gamers. BUT now I realised that THAT's TOO WIDE. I need to change my strategies for specific audience right now. Thank God my journey as a RUclipsr just 8 months 😅
Good video man. I just started my RUclips channel at the beginning of the year and I do reviews on games. I have 4 videos so far and am working on my fifth .. I do this mainly because I have a passion for gaming. One thing that I have that No one else has is my opinions and insights on games. Hopefully the passion I have for it eventually leads me to be monetized
I must say - that last one hit home. Though, I enjoy looking at similar channels to mine (similar/around the same subs) and just see what they're doing, what seems to be working for them and so on. Personally, it highlighted what I felt I was doing right and found things I can improve. It almost felt like "analysing myself". But - like you said - it often messes with you and I get upset and disappointed with myself. I also do the "no cam" but that's cos I don't want it to be a floating head channel. Having a camera in my face stopped me from posting at all, so I removed my blocker, kinda. I feel like I got a good voice and that's what I want to highlight anyway. But yea - some days feels great. Others feels super difficult and discouraging and I've only been doing this for a few months. I've wanted to start for over 10 years and I'm finally here but it's so hard and I keep asking myself "what I'm doing wrong", which feels horrible. Not easy. Thanks for this vid, though. None of that BS talk about "beating the algorithm" and "post daily" crap :)
Hey I think it's important to note for those that have old channels and are coming back to making content should really consider on whether or not to make a new channel or stay on their current ones. I came to the conclusion that my channel has been through way too many niche's over the years that I made a new one as a fresh start and to not get pushed against by the conflicting content that'll confuse the algorithm and potential viewers.
Good advice. Started my channel recently, and have been struggling to get into the game. Just trying to figure out editing and getting content together haha. I figure the vintage games I play aren't hot right now, but getting there ;).
It's ok if it's not hot, as long as there is an audience looking for the content you'll have growth opportunities. And TBH, you'll grow better off content that is not oversaturated 😀
Im trying, man. I just started a about a week or so ago, and one of my shorts already got 6300 views! I've been trying to make each video better. My problem is time. Active duty military and a family, theres only so many hours after work and after the gym. Plus, I am working on my bachelors degree. I just wanna entertain and put a smile on peoples face!
Awesome video bro, nice detail and explanation. And yeah the video idea 💡 and timing is always key to being number 1 cause if your video idea is terrible the video won’t perform as well. But great video keep up the good work. Nice improvement and keep growing. God Bless
@@MidnightMan sure can’t but makes it harder when you a small channel too cause other channels get sent the product or item early and if you not there on launch day to have it then make a video that is quality and upload it be hard too compete
One more tip I'd like to throw in that has worked well for me so far is being personal with your audience! Focus on people that enjoy what you're doing and will stay around to see multiple uploads. Interact with your viewers and make sure they feel acknowledged and special because they are the ones supporting and enjoying what you create!
Just scrolling and Reading some of the comments are super helpful ! I started a few months ago I only have 67 subscribers and I will not give up I believe that my channel will Grow and I wish the best to everyone else out there no space for hate at this point in our lives 🤟🏽🤟🏿🤟🏻✨ Let’s go small creators!!!
I just started taking my RUclips seriously and Being more entertaining is my issue. I’ve improved my edits, sound and quality but I have to stop being so dull 😂
I say the one I'm guilty for is not connecting the content I post Minecraft and Roblox because I really enjoy both but I try to connect them by making them both just funny and having gameplay
Thanks!!! Now I will go sit in a corner and re-evaluate my life.... kidding... but seriously thanks for the advice, I think i will keep my gaming channel for "fun" and start another channel for business. I appreciate these points!!

I’m definitely guilty of some of these things. But I love video games. I love sharing them. I do like making tip videos and helping people out when my videos are watched. I stopped my channel then restarted so I’m trying to get back to it now and building a setup
W video!. Thank you for the advice. I want to start this journey of content creation for youtube, so this was very educational and well put together. Imma have to rewatch it again.
Good Luck to all us small Content Creators! Been doing this now for 3 Yrs. Great Video brother! I just Love doing what i do, Money being involved its just a bonus I've Streamed Consistently everyday for over 3 yrs now, and i love every minute of it!

you have always just left a warm feeling in my heart each video after video... and the LAST TIP in this video !!! bought a tear to my eye lol sorry for being mushy about it but it keeps us small youtube creators going it really does !! thank you so much for all you create
lol as far as the 3:00 mark where you talk about "racing and mario having no crossover".... boy do i have a game for you!
We watched a lot of your videos to launch our channel. Thank you for your advice and help.😊
Very helpful video and gave me a little more motivation too! Just getting started and I posted my first short about five days ago (just a video I moved from my TikTok page) and it's already sitting at 2.2k views! After posting consistently, some are getting the same amount of traction and the subscribers are slowly coming in within DAYS! Consistency is KEY!! We got this guys! 🔥
I know i’m seeing this late but my youtube is starting to get exposure from youtube and im happy i can do what i love and hopefully it works
Thanks midnight! New creator here and im keeping it simple. Im also having a lot fun doing it. Halo Wars 2 is my home😊😅
3rd video I watched from you. You've answered soo dam many questions I've thought. And I have watched so many videos and you hit the nail on the head and it's concise. Appreciate it.
Nice tips, Kenny! Really helpful stuff for creators. Keep inspiring! 👏
I just think about content like this im documenting my life in multiple ways that if no one else will love my future family will
Thanx man, really motivated me to keep doing what i'm good at, for now struggling with the setup, but i'll figure a way out of this well.
Just started 2 weeks and so far 8 subs, just posting like everyone and trusting the process great tips man!
Returning Subscriber Here! I'm about to come up on a year of being on RUclips, and I can admit that I use to compare my channel to others a lot and tried playing the games they play, which most big gaming channels do first person horror games, I've even tried out a couple myself and couldn't finish them like the others can, so I'm just sticking to the games I personally like and happen to be into, which are RPGs and suprisingly Psychedelic games, I know its odd but after playing one psychedelic game on my channel i want to finish it, but I've noticed from playing RPG Maker games i've gained some audience from it, especially when i started playing Undertale, but since my channel got deleted I have to start all the way over again, but after being on RUclips for a while, I was real consistent with my content too, I stopped worrying about if I could gain more views and subscribers, I'm not sure if that's a bad thing but I almost made the mistake of talking to someone who could help me promote my channel, anyways enough of me yapping, I just wanted to come back to this video and thank you for the tips
everything you said here is real, straight facts 💯💯 Thank you I needed to hear that.
Well what about Dashie, Cory Kenshin and RDC? They don't stick to one genre of gaming
One word CORE FANBASE you want to get a sincere fanbase that will stick around no matter what u want to do
Thanks for the tips man!
Thanks for the tips! I recently started my RUclips channel so I’ll definitely use these tips to grow my audience and improve my quality
Be yourself! Good example: Markiplier!
Thank you for the tips! Keep on grinding yall!
Amazing tips keep going midnight am doing gaming even though I don't have all the setups, buh the good news is am on PS4 so I use the share factory, I can say I'm improving in editing cus am watching alot of videos across RUclips and it's helping me alot thanks bru.....
Great video. I will try working on them and see where it leads.
Thanks midnight man these the answers I being looking for
Thanks for the tips! You reviewed my channel a couple of months ago, and your advice has helped me grow immensely! Thank you 🤙🏽
I love to hear this, amazing ❤️
@@MidnightMan hey midnighman I have been struggling on obs when uploading my first face reveal and it was very leggy any advice
Thank you so much for this video! The grind continuessss
Your The Truth Bro, Stay Solid 🤞🏾
Thanks for the advice! I have a long way to go, but I love to learn more about video editing and presentation skills, so I see every video as a step forward 😊
Great insights here! Thanks and keep delivering concise and relevant content. 👍🏽
Glad it was helpful!
Love the video man! Well spoken and well put together. 🤘🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
One thing I’m doing that goes against these tips is that I’ve been posting videos of different games so far, but it’s mostly for practice. I’m enjoying the process, learning more each day, and hopefully with time I’ll find my niche
Perfectly fine thing to do early on until you find that niche. Experimentation can uncover unknown successes.
@@MidnightMan Thanks for the feedback
Thanks for the advice! Going through this scary ride day by day!
I just started a RUclips channel and uploaded my first video. I winged it and looking back it was a big mistake. Gonna start recording my platinum playthrough of Demon's souls this week, really excited
This was clear and concise. Great tips and great work on this video.
It all depends.
thanks for sharing
this was very informative!
Thank you for this! Really working on it!👍
I’m just now seeing this and this guy explains things way better than most. Definitely will take what he said and implement it to my channel 💯
my mistakes are editing videos i need to learn more about that in order to make a better channel.
Thanks for all this information as I’m looking into starting a gaming channel
Good luck you got this
Just watched this and it’s so helpful thank you so much 😁
Man thankyou very much im ben watching you for long time,
Greerz from Netherlands thanks for everything
Thank you for the information! I'll be trying all of these tips.
I'm guilty of all these mistakes.
Nice video bro. Keep rocking.
That's really really really makes sense.
I thought gaming WAS a specific channel's content ideas which is target a gamers. BUT now I realised that THAT's TOO WIDE.
I need to change my strategies for specific audience right now.
Thank God my journey as a RUclipsr just 8 months 😅
luckily you found out early...
Thanks for the advice! Also, love the firewatch wallpaper
Thank you!! 😊
I have been slacking for a few months but im gonna get back into it 💪🏾
Thankyou very much for this, had some very helpful tips :)
Thanks midnight I was doing sports and simulator games on the same channel u now know keep simulation games on one channel and put sports on another
really good advice, especially about the shorts, thank you
Im trying, man.
So far I’ve found the niche of efootball/football edits/fc mobile as my top content
Awesome video bro, nice detail and explanation. And yeah the video idea 💡 and timing is always key to being number 1 cause if your video idea is terrible the video won’t perform as well. But great video keep up the good work. Nice improvement and keep growing. God Bless
For gaming, being quick or first for new content is HUGE when trying to grow. Can’t be late to the party ⏰
@@MidnightMan sure can’t but makes it harder when you a small channel too cause other channels get sent the product or item early and if you not there on launch day to have it then make a video that is quality and upload it be hard too compete
Best way to compete is to have a different opinion or a unique perspective on the video that wasn’t already done
@@MidnightMan yeah facts but not alot of people think that way, but if they did they would grow much faster
One more tip I'd like to throw in that has worked well for me so far is being personal with your audience! Focus on people that enjoy what you're doing and will stay around to see multiple uploads. Interact with your viewers and make sure they feel acknowledged and special because they are the ones supporting and enjoying what you create!
So true!
Insightful video! Thanks for the tips! ✨
You the man, midnight man
Just scrolling and Reading some of the comments are super helpful ! I started a few months ago I only have 67 subscribers and I will not give up I believe that my channel will Grow and I wish the best to everyone else out there no space for hate at this point in our lives 🤟🏽🤟🏿🤟🏻✨ Let’s go small creators!!!
I appreciate this video brotha love all the tips now gotta go put in the work, because I was guilty but I'm better now.
I am guilty by all of it but thank you, i will do my best to improve
Thanks!!! Now I will go sit in a corner and re-evaluate my life....
kidding... but seriously thanks for the advice, I think i will keep my gaming channel for "fun" and start another channel for business. I appreciate these points!!
Thank you so much for the quality advice!
W
Thanks for all the help eventually I will try and and make better quality I only have my phone and a PlayStation rn
It’s such a slow slow slow grind 😔
