I grew up in Cornwall ( I now live in Cheshire)and every summer I loved going past a thatched cottage on my way to the beach at Gunwalloe. It was beautiful, just like yours.
Hi Mark, I went to Cockington with three friends many years ago. Looked just like a picture you'd see on a box of chocolates. I'll take a look at your video. By the way, I'm loving your channel and all that you do for wildlife.@@MarksHouseandGardenUK
Love your house, and that part of the country. fascinating facts about thatch, and I would definitely be putting money aside to replace it as you have done. I saw another gorgeous thatched roof at Knaresborough recently, another gorgeous place 😊
Hi. Have you ever travelled to Torquay? There's a village call Cockington with some stunning chocolate box houses. I'll look out for knaresborough on my travels. Mark
There are 60,000 Thatched properties in the UK, not 6,000. As for tinned roofs covered a thatch; that is virtually unheard of, would not be allowed on a Listed property, nor in a Conservation Area and would devalued the home beneath it. Finally most properties are thatched in long straw (trad.wheat varieties), indeed some reed roofs are subsequently covered in straw due to a lack of suitable reed.
Absolutely beautiful!😊
It is isn't it Margo, I feel privileged to live here. Thank you. Mark
Your cottage is so pretty! I love the way England preserves and cherish their historical and old places.
Thank you. Yes in some ways we don't own it we're just custodians. We love it too 😊
A beautiful country cottage in a stunning location 😊
Hello Deborah, isn't it just? We feel lucky to live here x
I am in the process of buying a thatched cottage in Warwickshire, thankyou for the video, it was very helpful.
You're welcome. I hope you love yours as much as we love ours. Best wishes. Mark

Thank you for your comment, although I disagree with much of it
Who do you use for insurance?
Hi benny, we use Lloyd and White Heritage who are a broker which offer various thatch policies. Mark
