That's a good explanation for why a pro will choose new parts rather than trying to fix old. It's not so much about making money, it's more about their personal reputation and reliability of the repair. When the customer doesn't understand what was done, they don't recognize the price they are paying to protect the reputation of the shop.

Thank you for this video. I'm at the racetrack getting ready for the morning, and my car started idling high when I put the clutch in, and then the check engine light came on with the trouble code for a gunked up IAC. I love the way you say, "If you have a problem with your intake, the problem is here!" and then point at the throttle body and IAC. I especially like it with your accent - very entertaining and informative

Install oil catch cans on the PCV and breather hoses to greatly reduce the blowby deposits.
I made 2 cans each with 2 1"x12" square aluminum extruded tubes filled with stainless steel pad material, copper pipe, and 3/8" fuel hose. If you are a DIYer, you can figure it out.
I reinstall the original hoses for vehicle inspections.

I have a 2.7L four cylinder motor in my Tacoma and the IAC valve is in a really difficult location. I've sprayed throttle body cleaner into the intake periodically. The last time I sprayed was in August 2018. The engine now has 191,000 miles on it.

I completely understand the replace vs cleaning decision... I cleaned mine the other day and as soon as I put the air intake hoses back on and buttoned everything up, I started to get a bouncing idle from 2000-3000 rpm once the engine was warm... I figure I knocked loose whatever carbon buildup was holding things together, and I suspect the valve failed a long time ago.

@@ToyotaMaintenance I have a 1988 toyota pickup truck the automatic transmission was low on fluid would not shift properly so I added some fluid ,worked for a long time and then it started not shifting properly again I checked the fluid, it has the right amount, but I added more and it started working again and once again I had to add more fluids and I got a bunch of fluid in the transmission it still does shift into second gear but then I need to let off the gas a little and it will shift into the next gear,I'm almost positive the oil has never been changed in the transmission.. do you think that changing the transmission oil and filter will solve the problem. That poor car. The starter solenoid, Dick the tow truck driver and now this. I had the 2004 XRS 2ZZ-GE w/C60 in Solar Yellow with ceramic window tint. Bought it in 2003 off the showroom floor. I put on every TRD part offered and the optional subwoofer. The car was inexpensive but not cheep. It would do over 110 and felt great. Got a ticket to prove it doing a 1250 mile trip in one stretch. Had to race with other cars to stay awake even after getting the ticket. To me it was a great car. Living in Southern California I can't imagine the corrosion I see on the cars you take in. All you guys and Gals too, if you are going to park a car that long leave the hood open. Seriously how long would you live in a house without a roof. Hood closed you have a Habitrail. This goes for farm equipment too.

I just have to add this. This stuff can be avoided with proper maintenance, refer to your Owner's Manual. Use Quality oil and change it when needed. Dirty oil vapor coats the intake via the PCV. Clean oil will too but will be a lot easier to clean off. Post throttle body. Use Quality Fuel. I didn't say High Octane, Low Octane I said Quality Fuel. Depending where you are located station names change. I stick to Chevron, Mobil and Shell in that order. Run the right Octane, check your manual. It's the engine's mechanical timing, electric timing and compression ratio COMBINED that determines what octane will give the better performance. Don't choose fuel by it's price or you think that higher octane will make the car run even better. I used to say in the business "Pay Me Now or Pay Me Later" 😳😯

I have a one owner (me) 1997 4runner 3.4 v6 with 370,000 miles with an idle problem. When the engine is cold the idle is 1500 rpm, when the engine is warm it remains at 1500 rpm. If I restart the engine while it's warm it will drop to 800 RPM without fail. Does that seem like the IAC should be replaced? I pulled the intake off the throttle body and it looks pretty clean. The part is $250 and I don't want to take a wild ass guess.

I have found Idle problems can also be caused by K&N type air filers, the oil in the filter element can coat the Mas Air Flow Sensor which then gets a false reading. The computer thinks less air is entering the engine and therefore the computer compensates by leaning out the fuel which causes the engine to idle erratically. This is easily remedied by using a specialty cleaner and carefully removing the oily residue from the Mas air Flow Sensor which should solve your idle problem. Do yourself a favor and only use genuine Toyota air filters

This is true. I still prefer an oil filter, especially for dusty environments. You shouldn't see much problem with these filters as long as you don't over saturate the filter with oil. They must be cleaned correctly, dried, then lightly oiled.

I really need an answer. My 2020 Tacoma’s transmission feels weird. The dealer always tells me is how it’s supposed to be but I can’t believe them after driving other Toyota’s and other brands and they all feel smooth as driving on glass. This is my second tacoma that’s felt this way the first was a 2018 4 cyl and my current is a 2020 v6 and they both feel jerky and sloppy particularly in traffic and also very slow to shift when getting on the throttle when passing or getting on the freeway. fk Sahraoui Hi I did just fix that on my Avanza. The first time I didn't get it right the Avanzas valve looks totally different and is very expensive. The Avanza valve it's a short probe. Inside the probe is the actual valve. So there is a small gap in the probe the valve is the inside pipe in the probe. So it's difficult to get to clean there . I used a strong cleaner called compression stabilizer that cleanses carburettor and valves without assembling it. Mostly used on motorbikes. I did spray the compression stabilizer in the 5 mm gap on the probe. One way and turned it around and cleaned the other side of the valve . Repeated twice . And after that the idle was normal again

Hi! Big fan here! Hope you could help me on my 2003 corolla. At cold start, my car starts with no problem but once it gets warmed up, it cranks but it takes extra 3 seconds to start and it feels like hesitation. I cleaned the MAF, IAC and changed the air filter. And surprisingly, no codes found except for pending CAT. Thanks

since you've already gone through intake diagnoses im guessing it's a fuel issue. no codes typically means fuel related. listen for priming, regulator etc. check your vacuum line off the pressure regulator if it's wet at all. take a probe to your injectors cold then warm see if any are clicking diff. if you have a obd2 scanner, monitor your live data readouts. do check your ground wires, i'd clean them anyway and volt drop test them. also test your starter as they can start worse when warm as they wear. also, super cheap and can help a surprising amount: run a bottle of HEET in your next fill up.

Hello, I did a test, I removed the rubber from the air filter, so I had access to the throttle body, I started up and gradually covered the air intake that enters the IAC valve, as the covers stretch to stop until when completely covered, the engine stops. But I can't find the fault, which is that it starts and as it warms up the rpm goes up to almost 2000 rpm. Then when driving on the street or highway, if you leave it in neutral, the rpm goes up to 2000 and goes down to 1000 until in a moment if I stop the car they go to 2000. A query, I made contact, I measured the female card of the IAC with tester and 12 volts to the positive (black cable) arrive at the connector, nothing to the ground cable and the other signal 0.14 volts and the signal 0.14 volts..., I also tell you that if I disconnect the connector from the IAC, the car runs and does the same problem. I am very concerned that it may be the ECU that may be sending an inappropriate voltage. thanks for your help

@@Esteban_Herrera Sorry, I didn't know about the translation. I am sending it here in English: thank you very much, I will check the idle valve and the intake gasket and tell you how it went. Thank you very much for her response. Greetings
