I have tons of smart pots. Unfortunately, there are so many people who like gardening and growing veggies. But the 5 gallon buckets are all they can afford.
Yes, understood. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, right?! Thank you for watching and commenting. CK
My peppers done so awesome last year in the Calikim 5 gallon smartpots….i got 20plus peppers from each pot…. So much better than the year before which was no peppers 😢….then again they wasn’t in a smartpots either!!!
Didn’t know about the benefits of epson salt. Now that I do, I’ll be doing that with my peppers.
Excellent. Let us know how it goes ! CK
Hubby and I love your channel ❤
Thanks! I hope to enjoy lots of peppers this summer and this was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful! CK
Just filled a jiffy seed tray . I planted some flowers , chives , tarragon, a bell pepper 🫑 to be a companion to my current bell pepper, and cilantro (slow bolt variety) , and basil 🌿 .
Love it!! You are BUSY out there!!!
I will have to try Epsom Salt on my peppers this year. Mine rarely grow very big…maybe this will be the year!
Yes, maybe this'll be the year, Debbie! Love your Hawaiian Garden!
Thank you for the epsom salts tip. I tried it on my hot peppers, and it's working so well.
You are so welcome and I am so glad to hear this Crowmoon! What else are you growing? Kim
@@CaliKim29 Three varieties of hot peppers, bush beans, zinnias, sunflowers, and basil. So far....
Excellent! Great work Crowmoon! Please tell me you're a subscriber! *I can't always tell! CK
@@CaliKim29 Yes. I'm a long-time subscriber.
Fabulous! Thank you; I am very appreciative and a great day to you! CaliKim
I’ve tried fabric pots but unfortunately they don’t work for me here in Australia. With our hot dry summers they just dry out too quickly so I’ve had to go back to plastic. Your peppers look beautiful Cali 😊
Interesting! Were you watering by hand and/or could drip irrigation on a timer work? So interesting to hear challenges from
Other hemispheres! Thank you 🙏 for commenting, Lunasgarden! Cali
@@CaliKim29 I was watering by hand. I grow potatoes in them during our winter and they work well but our summers sometimes get to 40oC and over
Yikes. Well..If it helps, I cover my veggies on super hot days here in So.Cal. With Tule + timer drip …but like you say…sometimes the heat is just too much heat !
Thank you for the great a

Graet tips!
Unfortunately, it would cost me a couple of thousand to grow peppers in 5 gallon containers. Then again, I have over 200 started indoors. I'm working on a set of garden beds I messed up last year with heavy mulch and I'm going to re-establish a perennial living mulch to deal with fertility and bugs. Clovers, mints, lemonbalm, thyme, etc... and I'm figuring out how to plant stuff in that. I'm convinced I could commercially grow wheat with no fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. The only thing I add are compost and aerated compost tea.
As for seed starting/potting soil, I've found that finding some sugar sand and mixing it shovel for shovel with quality compost works great, but I have enough room to set up compost piles where I can put dead animals in it safely.
Great info, thanks!
Glad it was helpful! And Joseph, Thank YOU for following all of these YEARS!!! Kim
Great tips.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching and hopefully Subscribing, if you have not already!
I'll try it
I love it !!! LMK!! Kim
I would like to try the purple pepper, Kim. I'll get some started soon. Thanks for the tips.
Sounds great, Ramona! I'll see you in the Plus group! *wink
Mam super inf 👌👌👌
I like your vido 👌👌🌹🌹
I live in a northern climate so utilize a greenhouse and temperatures are mostly in the range you refer to. I use a soil moisture meter. I tried sweet pickle(Christmas tree)sweet peppers. I got lots of healthy looking foliage but not a single blossom. Any thoughts?
Hmm, it can be frustrating at times, can't it? Here are some thoughts, perhaps you've tried some/already know this...but maybe something will click.....
Make sure they're getting at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
They don't like to sit in waterlogged soil, so ensure your soil is well-draining.
Peppers thrive when it's consistently warm, ideally between 70-80°F during the day and not dipping below 60°F at night; make sure you are around those temps?
Last, give them a gentle shake when they're in bloom to help with pollination.
Does that help? Do any of these resonate?
Thanks for watching and commenting, and If you are not a subscriber, I hope that you do! CaliKim
@@CaliKim29 Thank you for the reply. I am a subscriber and enjoy your channel. Maybe I'll try a another spot in the greenhouse for a different exposure or a different kind of pepper. Thanks again!
Good kim can I grow potatoes in my smartpots if I can what size do I use❤😊
Yes you can - Smart Pots grow beautiful potatoes. Use at least a 10 gallon, I have them at calikimgardenandhome.com. Thanks for watching!
I grow peppers in fabric pots and they do very well. But i see you plant 2 in one pot. I saw a video on growing 2 plants in one hole . This is supposed to keep them from fighting for nutients by seeming like its one plant. What do you think of that idea. I am anxious to hear your opinion. Thank you.
Go for it! Some of mine end up growing close together and it worked out fine. And Felicia, I am sorry for missing your question last week. Please let me know how this goes for you, Kim
I will be trying the Epsom salt this year for my peppers. Do you use it on any other vegetables?
Yes I do! I use them on ALL of my vegetables! Try it - see how it goes! Thanks for watching and subscribing, if you have not already - CaliKim
you know your stuff Woman
ive been doing this for years but still enjoy watching others teach and learn and god i hate to admit it being a man but i learn from you too! lol JK 😂
Thank you so much - it's GREAT to have you watching, Tom...CaliKim
I have shared images of my dying strawberry plants x 5 on Instagram , i wonder what the reason could be, they were under light 16 hours ish with good spacing, soil, vermisterra vitality used on them during transplant procedure
Hard to say ...many variables, assess the following and adjust as necessary - as I always say...EXPERIMENT.
How was your:
Watering?
Nutrients?
Light?
Temperature?
Pests? Diseases?
Root Health?
You need to examine these factors and make any necessary adjustments, you can hopefully revive your strawberry plants and get them back on track to thriving. If you don't know about these particular items --- that's where you start researching and watching videos, etc.
Hope this helps...
Keep us posted - CaliKim Thanks for following if you do not already (I am unable to tell)!
Great info ! Thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thanks 🙏 for watching and commenting and subscribing, if you have not already!
I grow mine in 5 gallon buckets every year and they do AWESOME! I'm not real sure we need the CaliKim "smart bucket".. my retarded buckets do just fine 😂
My gosh if it's working for you...by all means keep on! THANK YOU for following all of these years!! CaliKim
Hi Kim. Do you think I could grow California Wonder peppers inside my condo using grow lights? Each shelf on my plant stand has two 3 foot grow lights above the plants. The plant stand is against my deck windows which has a southern exposure. I live in Seattle and during the summer months, June July August, my condo is usually 75 or so degrees. Sometimes hotter. I am successfully growing ginger, turmeric and miniature tomato plants along with a variety of herbs in my condo.
Also, what do you think about watering the peppers from below in a tray instead of from the top?
Thank you. Your videos are very illuminating. Cheers and enjoy your fertile oasis. Ray. 🥂
Your setup with the plant stand against southern-exposed windows and grow lights should provide sufficient light for pepper plants.
This will ensure they receive the necessary light intensity, especially Seattle where natural sunlight can be limited.
75 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer months, should also be suitable for pepper plants, as they thrive in warm temperatures. Just make sure the temperature doesn't exceed the tolerance range for the specific variety of peppers you're growing.
Just keep an eye on your pepper plants for signs of stress, such as wilting or leaf discoloration, and adjust conditions accordingly.
Yes, big fan of "bottom watering".
Give it a go - there's nothing to lose and a ton to gain, right? I'm not too sure if you follow or not, Ray, but hope you subscribe! CK Keep us posted.

This is CameraGuy, the videographer/editor/producer of our CaliKim episodes. I want to thank you for your compliment about our videos. A compliment like that coming from someone with your background, and being self-taught ... means the world to me!!!
We use production lingo on set and make it fun...even though we do get a little intense at times - not gonna' lie! At the end of the shoot, I yell "That's a wrap" so our neighbors know that we are done filming.
Thank you again for subscribing and your very meaningful words. OH. Let's talk shop real quick. I shoot on all SONY gear sitting on a RSC2 stabilizer with a small 7" HD monitor. What about you?
I also shot a lot of our book photos, as well. Good fun. Best, CameraGuy (Jerry)
You do not need a “smart pot” brand. Air pruning happens in all fabric grow bags. That was kinda misleading. I’m sure there’s a commission or something but any grow bag is great.
Correct, if you have a container other than Smart Pot and it is working for you...that's great...go with it. I do believe the construction of the fabric makes SmartPot so effective or else I wouldn't be partnering with them. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment - CaliKim
I bet to differ on the 5 gallon buckets. I use them every season with plenty of drilled holes for drainage and I grow some monster sized pepper plants . Just a big lie to sell your fabric pots
I prefer fabric containers and haven't had good luck with 5 gallon buckets. Do what works for you. And, we don’t lie on this channel. CK
The phrase is “I beg to differ.” If you are going to criticize someone be sure to get your phrasing correct.
@@josephbaumann292 it was a typo not wrong phrasing. Funny to see how I pressed you enough to come respond with a stupid comment like that 😂😂
I wish you wouldn't make fake thumbnails like this. It's misleading.
You're expecting to grow peppers the size of Kims head I suppose? 😂
Yah, they are kinda’ goofy but they’re what’s trending right now across the platform. CK ….
