I own the Sennheiser HD 380 pros and I agree with your decision. Great headphones that I really enjoy using. Thanks for your review. Keep up the good content.
I own both of these and don't regret that. They're both great but in their own way. It's like: Hd380: i hope you hear how well it's produced. M50: I hope you had fun listening to it.
I have used the M50's, HD25, 380 Pro, SRH840 and the V6. Right of the bat the Sennheiser HD25 blows the 380 Pro. The flattest was the Shure and is best for guitars, I play ESP 8 string and fretless bass. For other modern genres, Ableton and mastering in Izotope I use the Audio-Technica. There isn't a 'winner' as such but the best all-rounder is either the M50 or V6, depending on genre. There's a mild extension that can handle EQ adjustments in the sub-bass without any problems of distortion. I heard it's why the Sennheiser Momentum signature was modeled on the M50.
The hd25 are flatter than the 840s. The 840s are great but a little bright and recessed in the mids. My momentum’s sound nothing like my m50x. They are much more mid forward and if anything weak in the treble. I find them easy listening
HD380 pro's vocals sounds beautiful, I miss that sound, Does anyone knows where can I get new drivers for my HD380 pro? the left one is busted, I tried over ebay, but there isnt any spare parts.
I actually bought the 380 like 12 years ago and then once I bought my HD 25's never used them again, never touched them it again , for 7 years. Now I have also bought the Audiotechnica M50 and I was comparing both, that's why I found this video. First I made a real bad comment in this cahnel saying the 380 pro sucks and believe me they do sound real bad out of the box with a really exaggerated amount of mids. But since I think they have a certain definition of sound mainly in the highs and more defined low end in comparison with the Audiotechnica and even the HD25 I decided to work on them. So made a simple mod: Open them, then you see the smaller driver enclosure, Heat up a paper clip and melt a tiny little extra port into the plastic cover of the drivers (there is 2 tiny holes there, so make a 3d one), and then fill the cup behind it with cotton or polyfil. But its not enough, you have to use an equalizer every time cutting of the freq arround 1.2k drastically. Thas it they sound really good now. I am surprised.
I used my 380 pros for 8 years, already replaced de pads and the cable. Now that they start to need another set of both I'm looking to the 280 Pros. Most off the time I use my headphone for video editing, and the 380 pros have been just perfect, but nowadays I can't spend more 70€ em parts when for a little more I can have a new set!
The Sony MDRV6 have a pretty flat sound too, so the mix really comes across as intended. That's the way to go, for me. Used them in a studio years and years ago and liked the sound. Tough question, but if I were in your shoes I would go 380 pros because you’re getting a flatter frequency response which is much more desirable for mixing

I've owned both and used both, also the HD 300 Pro and I have to say, I prefer the M50x. I've used them to mix, monitor, game and just for general audiophile purposes and the Audio Technica suit my ear much better than both models of the Sennheisers. They're also much sturdier and the ear cup pads last much longer.
Ah cool. Well how about the 280 Pros? I guess it would then depend on the difference between them and the 380s. I like bright headphones speakers and mics. People hated the brightness to the Rode NT1-A. So Rode flattened the new NT1 mic. I liked the NT1-A sound though. Don't mind the new NT1 though and the floor noise is quieter then the NT1-A.

They came in YESTERDAY and I used them all day long for mixing, listening, and testing. Short answer is I LOVE THEM SO MUCH, long answer involves needing a headphone amp and having a few sibilance issues. I'm making a video about them for Friday.

YOOO! Here's the truth: The 380's DO dampen the sound quite a bit, so with music on you should be fine. But of course nothing is like Noise Cancelling for really tuning out the world. So if you want good sounding headphones (and are okay going with a wire), I'd go 380's.

Well whadayaknow!? I just did the same having used some in a recording studio. I now have a pair at my mixing desk. Are you sure we don't share the same pair of ears? :-)
Awesome review. Please I need you wisdom. I need headphones with great base for EDM songs, yet it mustn't drown out the rest. Also, the sound must be very clear for gaming. Basically price range should be more or less than Audio Technica ATH M50x. Going over $40 is fine.
Definitely Sony-Plantronics seems more like a gadget company versus an audio company. I own a pair of their Bluetooth in-ears only because they were the ones that stayed in my ears the best for running/workout. Sound is just not there however
Measure headphones is a fun thing in reviews. But the cans have to be sealed like when you wearing them on your head. Otherweise it´s no point. Am I wrong? I got a pair of HD 380 and they don´t sound close to natural in my opinion. Compare the HD 380 and DT 880 and the difference is enormous. DT 880 sounds natural, the HD 380 do not. It´s all down to personal preferences but call the HD 380 natural is for me personally very odd. Thx for your opinion on the HD 380 but I disagree. Sorry, english ain´t my native language.
I completely agree-it didn’t yield helpful results but I tried to believe it did. No way to truly share the differences of headphones without personal experience!
Haha! That's amazing - fully agree until their new Quiet Comfort 35 II - those are actually quite pleasant sounding headphones with stellar noise cancellation.
Qc35 was as good, sound true around ear ii were the same driver in a passive design and also hold their own against the m50. They sound like a v-moda m100 with more treble. The bass is as good or better than the m50 and it still has some semblance of a mid range... unlike the m50 which has among the weakest mids I have heard.
A few years ago I bought the HD 380 Pro when I needed new headphones, it's been one of the worst purchases I've made but I didn't return them because of stubbornness(second mistake). The sound has always been unnatural, compared to other headphones I've owned(SRH880, K712) they are considerably worse no matter what I use to drive them. For starters they are not reference, some frequencies are completely cut off so I don't hear elements that I would with other headphones, meanwhile the middles are really loud but also flat and lacking detail, the trebles can be both painful or missing depending on which frequencies are required. The build quality is good but the pads are trash, they do nothing to isolate sound so I hear what's outside even with music playing and the sound leaks out so microphones pick it up. This is true even with the really strong clamping pressure (which admittedly got lessened a bit but it's still there) which is definitely more than my shure which at the same were much better at isolating sound. With time and use the black material on pads and headband has started peeling off, I decided to get brainwavz pads to try and salvage this horrible pair of headphones but I don't have much hope. Avoid the Sennheiser HD 380 Pro, there are definitely better headphones for that price.
its funny that you comment over the headphones after listening could you remember how was it ?? , why didnt you talk and tell your comments while listening . dislike man!!
Man, you have NO idea about sound or describing sound... hd380 is hifi headphone, its a joke on consumer to put pro in a name,,, M50 have much more natural mids, less coloration in vocal range (200-1500hz) and more even presentation... Hd380 is dark, dips in higs, low level of detail and that bass just makes them awful for anything other than movies, but they clamp hard and narrow pads, so they are real torture machine... M50 is not awesome either, but compared to this abomination, it passes
@@OliverJHughes You talk about highs, lows and mids not even understanding that within those, there are so many differencies between lets say 100 and 150 hz... 100 and 200 is a whole octave! ETC... I can continue, but you need your own learning process, i aint doing that... Download sinegen and test headphones, but also, learn about human ear and frequency response of our hearing... Then ear cannal adds some coloration as well everyone have different... In the end, you are blabbing about the sound and its like you never heard either of those hps, let alone have knowledge of the sound to know what and how to critically listen
I’m not sure you’ve listened much to the 380, they are sensitive to position on your head in relation to treble but are in no way lacking in treble. They are harshLu bright in the upper mid low treble range. The m50x does not have a neutral mid range at all. It has one of the most recessed mid ranges in a popular headphone I have heard. (You can question me but I own over 50 pairs worth over $10k combined)
I could not pick a favourite... I believe that is impossible. I have a pair of aiaiai tma2 that I tuned to sound completely different than they did and ended up sounding like closed hd600 with m50x bass. They would probably be my favourite for listening, the tuned fostex t50rp are also pretty great but roll off a little to quickly in the highs. Awesome soundstage on them. Just as a note, I enjoy all my headphones and I am hyper critical of all my headphones. Just because I point out their weaknesses doesn’t mean they don’t have strengths. Best On a budget. although feel kinda cheap and the upper mids are a bit much: Sony mdr-7506
@@gingerssuck Oh man, im not even going to describe how much i disagree with you because sound is such individual thing and a matter of perception.... i wouldnt ever buy hd380, and yes, ive listened to them quite a lot, with all sorts of genres and sources... They are ridiculous in my opinion... I would describe them as "total trash" for music, or "good enough" for movies and casual yt videos, but they also clamp really hard and have really crappy earpads, only good thing on them is durable plastic and decent cable.. Their mids are recessed way more than m50 and highs are colored and distand, not detailed... Never mind the product, do you know how human perception of sound looks like on frequency graph and did you test these headphones with sine wave?

With time and use the black material on pads and headband has started peeling off, I decided to get brainwavz pads to try and salvage this horrible pair of headphones but I don't have much hope.
Avoid the Sennheiser HD 380 Pro, there are definitely better headphones for that price.
Español 😡😡😡😡😡
its funny that you comment over the headphones after listening could you remember how was it ?? , why didnt you talk and tell your comments while listening . dislike man!!
Sorry man - I guess I’ve got a good memory 🤷🏻♂️😂
Man, you have NO idea about sound or describing sound... hd380 is hifi headphone, its a joke on consumer to put pro in a name,,, M50 have much more natural mids, less coloration in vocal range (200-1500hz) and more even presentation... Hd380 is dark, dips in higs, low level of detail and that bass just makes them awful for anything other than movies, but they clamp hard and narrow pads, so they are real torture machine... M50 is not awesome either, but compared to this abomination, it passes
Thank you for the colorful information, frog!
Never mind the product, do you know how human perception of sound looks like on frequency graph and did you test these headphones with sine wave?
great review. thinking about the 380 in studio
