I survived 2 winters in Calgary. Both years it started snowing in September and went to may. The worst part is the 8 months of grass being brown, and the lack of trees due to the prairie climate, besides going out west into the mountains, all around was just flat nothingness, brown in colour, no trees, felt like I was at the edge of the world. Beautiful city and all but I just couldn't accept some facts and had to leave.
HaHa, I grew up in Calgary and we have a weather phenomenon called the chinook. It will bring warm dry winds in from the west off the mountains that regularly bring winter temperatures up above freezing for a few days every couple of weeks or so. We do not experience the very harsh winter that most of the other parts of Canada can experience for months. With the exception of the west coast southern alberta has a fairly mild winter. Lots of Sun shine too!
I can 100% relate to many of the things said in the video. The air is super dry, and the point about static is true! And there is not much wind for the most part. I noticed the water is very harsh in Calgary (and surrounding cities); I recommend getting a water softener if you plan to buy a house. There are a couple of things that I want to share/emphasize: 1. The winter months (Dec-Jan) weather is bone-chilling cold. Coming from Toronto (10+yrs), I’d take T.O weather any day. All of my goose jackets were pretty much useless, had to layer up 2-3 times and wear 2 layers of pants - anytime I would stay outside for more than 15 mins. Especially taking public transit. It was brutal. 2. The Chinook can be tricky. It is obviously a huge +ve point as mentioned in the video. But with that comes one big -ve. Because of the drastic weather changes from -20C to +10C, the snow that melts on the road, freezes and becomes black ice. I have never experienced this much black ice in my life. I had to drive thru Calgary 3 hr (250Kms) in a day for a few months for work and I was genuinely scared, at night especially. You may see small patches of black ice in T.O but never 10s of Kms of black ice. 3. The video gets 100% right that there is just so much more sunlight compared to T.O. Even in winters if you are under sunlight, it’s not THAT cold. You may be tempted to open up your jacket or remove some layers, but don’t! Without sunlight it is freezing!
I have been finding a video explaining the winter very clearly like this. However, today accidentally I found your channel. Your doing a great job and help the people who intend to migrate to Calgary Canada especially south Asians. I found so many important videos. Thank you for sharing these important information. I am from Sri Lanka and had a fear about harsh winters in Calgary. Now I understood that we can survive somehow. Please do a video explaining all seasons in this manner explaining the temperature and related things. Also do a video with regard to PR path after studies in the university. Thanks
i’ll take Calgary anyway compared to Texas deadly heat. i lived in North Dakota -50f unbelievable!it’s actually colder then Edmonton 😱also you talk about dry? Better then humid. My Daddy bought me a humidifier but for the opposite just pure agony😭Can’t wait until i go back to Alberta 💕
My friend this video was really helpful, we are moving next January and we are really afraid, we are from Mexico city and we like a lot your videos keep going!!!! Thanks for the so much useful information
I lived in both Calgary and Toronto. Calgary has Chinook which gives you breaks from the cold but Toronto is straight cold for several months. Yes Calgary can be -30 for a couple of weeks every winter. Other than that the average temperature is quite comparable. Overall I prefer Calgary winter for the Chinook weather and winter sports.
Thank you Ajay for sharing your experience. I was wondering how bad the snow fall is over the winter periods? I'm a little worried about driving in heavy snowfall.
Hi, about dryness and bleeding of nose.. I live in Montreal and when it's -20 nd above we too get same problem inside home coz of heating system at home so we too started using humidifier.. it's better with humidifier. I m confused why people think it's only in Calgary when I felt same in Montreal and people living here recommended me to buy humidifier to solve this problem... M Also planning to move to Calgary.
Hey Gagan , thanks man for sharing your experience. I don’t know much about Montreal weather, I hv lived in Toronto and Calgary. If you watch the full video, I have shown the humidifier in this video as well
One other thing for anyone to make note of is if you get much for migraines. The massive change in temps with chinooks can increase them. I come from Saskatchewan so it's warmer winters here in Calgary. I it was -46c a couple days when I went home.
@@AjayBalharaLive Thank you. The more people that move here the better. Now that you have an suv it's time for you to start adventuring down those back roads in the mountains. Old Man River area is a good start.
I have a wheezing problem (it's triggering due to dust or cold). I got a project in the Calgary location. It can be manageable if I will come to Calgary. Please suggest. Thanks!
How is the Indian population in Calgary? Do we have a lot of Indian people to make friends (mainly for my kid who is 5 year old)?? And how is the quality of education for lower KG till high school??
There are so many Indian families here, you will easily get connected to the community. Education is good , however , schools are attached to the neighbourhood you live in. So , you need to do proper research on good schools and find your residence accordingly.
We are family living in india, want to move to canada,we have crs of 451, with two kids under age of 8, my age is 36 with 3 yrs of managerial experience, what are our chances of getting pnp invitation or pr...plz tell and which pnp' s are open now
Hi Ajay B why is it so cold and the drying in Calgary Canada. Why is it so colder than any other state. Ok the weather can be extremely difficult and challenging so I do ask so many questions but that’s life in Canada Calgary. What about the roads do they grit the roads and the way you have to survive. Why is it so cold outside the snowing and the snowstorms. It’s in January February March December to March next year 2023 can get colder extremely difficult condition. Ok. How can you survive and the snow storm snow falls and how expensive it can be in Canada weather. Well it’s the snowing full of existence well you have to face the colder weather. The climate change and you have to survive it. The cost of living is too expensive so I don’t know. I wish it be like Florida or Spain weather. Why is it so cold outside and inside. What’s the cost of living high. You lived there so the extremely expensive and the weather can be harsh. Ok what about jobs in Calgary Canada. Ok
Hello I have a question, I'm at my last year of study (12th grade) can I continue my last year in calgary? And is if we wante to rent apartments is it affordable and what sites should we look (legit sites)
I am not very familiar with the the school education as of now. For rentals , rentfaster.ca is good. It’s always better to rent a place after you come to Canada .
I’m in Toronto, seems Canada is only meant for polar bears….we humans are here just for the heck…… lol……..there’s a reason USA got 370m people vs 37m in Canada. My work takes me to the USA at least twice a month……wish I could move there. Weather and work is so much better there…..in my opinion.
Oh yeah, I had this issue during exporting videos , sound only in one speaker. When you change mono settings in sound settings on phone or laptop. It will be fine. That being said, I have fixed this problem in my future videos. 😎😎😎
Thanks AM, by the way if you are listening on headphones, then go to your phone audio settings and switch on mono, you ll get full sound in both speakers. My audio is super good otherwise.
When I was in India I use to watch vlogs in English and when I moved to Canada I mostly watch vlogs in Hindi or Punjabi... I don't know but I grab more knowledge when I listen in home country language.. my mindset is changed.. Haha 😃 paji Hindi mae awaj jaza achi lagti hai.
You can always move to Vancouver. Lots of rain 🌧 but summers can be hot and humid. But a beautiful City. Just very expensive. Been living in Calgary since 1986. Love the sunshine ☀️.
Way to go, my brother. Great video!!! I'm looking forward to start my immigration preparation process at the start of next year, with Calgary being the destination. Maybe one day we shall be able to hang out a bit!! Didier from Mauritius.

I totally agree with you. Being born in Calgary , I am sure you must be finding it normal here. For me , it’s quite a hand-full
Thanks. This video kind of lifted my spirits.
I'm so glad!
Thanks so much for the encouraging video, as an aspirant of coming to Canada I really appreciate the positivity
Thanks Melanie. I am very happy to have you on my channel.
Calgary is beautiful during the winter. Now can you survive a winter in EDMONTON AB…
That’s a tough one. I have been to Edmonton in chilly weather.
Banff is gorgeous in the winter. Thank you for the tips.

Thanks for the info. This has been my major concern. I'm in BC and considering Calgary as my future home.
Yeah , I know , it was concern as well.
There are many great ski resorts within a couple hours drive of Calgary. The world class skiing is one benefit of the long winters.
I agree ☝️

Thanks Val✌️✌️✌️
Thanks for the honesty!👑✨👍

I am feeling relief..as i am coming to Calgary soon..thank you so much ❤️
Oh yes. Welcome to Cagary Navneet 😊 when you buy a car, get in touch with me as well brother. I work in Heninger Toyota
Maybe i'm going to Calgary soon on the first 2024... i hope i can handle those challenging winter..
I bet you will.
And are there heaters in every house or donwe have to buy during winters

Snowfall is bad on few days. But you can drive ✌️

Ye GD thanks for the recommendation, I ll surely explore the old man river
Thank you for the nice description.
Always happy to help
As far as winter jackets are concerned, would you recommend going for the next size to add layers?
Winter jackets are already big. I would only recommend one thing, buy them in Canada , don’t buy in India
How about summers until what temperature it reachs.
Do u need to back to office when it's always -20°C in Calgary?
Can you please share review about humidifier? Thank you
It’s compulsory in Calgary ✌️
251st person to view this video lol...all the best wishes to your channel
Thanks for your well wishes my friend.
Are you recomand to come there
I like it here and that’s what I suggest everyone. Do more research and take a decision when you are sure.
Hi why do you move Calgary from Toronto
Do you mind if I ask if you had a lot of stuff to move? Did u secure a job first in Calgary before you moved?
It’s a good question, I found a job after coming here.
It is possible for sports lover to play football & cricket in the Calgary winter or other outdoor game?
That’s a good question, I ll make a video about it soon.
That being said Ice hockey is the most popular sport here
@@AjayBalharaLive thanks... But also cover cricket & football culture in Calgary
I ll find out.
Plz do vlog about Alberta opportunity stream
I have a wheezing problem (it's triggering due to dust or cold). I got a project in the Calgary location. It can be manageable if I will come to Calgary. Please suggest. Thanks!
It will be fine, just get a flu shot when you are here.
What about Edmonton?
95% similar to Calgary... it's just 2-2.5 hr drive from Calgary
Me and my friend in calagary this is our first chilled winter ever -40
I can understand your chilly feelings
My first winter is coming !!!!
Be prepared , you ll be fine.

how about housing market in calgary and job market ?
One question how about jobs that related to construction for ex- electrician, hvac etc. how much they got affected by winter?
Thanks
That’s a good question, however , I am not the right person to answer that.
In Calgary, everyone has a super power. Static shock.
A bit of moisturizer everyday can neutralize that super power.
Can we live in Igloos?
Bhai aap toh reg loge
@@AjayBalharaLive hahahaha
Is this recommended to newcomers from India to come to Calgary in the month of Feb end or March first week?
March would be better
Such a relief watching this video, it made me change the negative opinion I had on Calgary’s winters.
That’s good Snehal

Hi, what about quilts for calgary winters? Do we need to carry from India and if yes then what kind of quilts??
Hey Shiwani. Please buy all your quilts and blankets in Canada . You ll find everything better in Costco and Walmart
Thank you so much Ajay.
✌️😊
Heated blankets are $40cdn from cosco. If you're new to a northern environment then it's going to be one of the best purchases to make.
I totally agree
But the weather here is so unpredictable, one moment at can be hot and really cold very next moment.

Hi there! What about the hails? I heard its very bad there
Yes , hail could be bad, but this year , it wasn’t so harmful. You need to have covered parking for your vehicles.
Hi Ajay .. I heard people get migraine problem . Do you have any opinion about this ?
I didn’t get migraine nor did Demi. I am not aware of any such issue. May be some people have an inherent problem and that gets aggravated.
Thank you Ajay .
yes its common in calgary due to the chinook winds which other cities do not get. Sharp fluctuations in temperature cause some people to get migraines
Sound?
