- Stockli has replaced the Stormrider 105 with the new Stormrider 102 for 2022. A little more rocker in the tip, a slightly more turned up tail, and that Stockli feel everyone's chattering about in the lift line.

I love my 105s! Great for skiing in the BC interior (mostly Fernie) where we get lots of snow, but also many days of chopped up snow, bumps and some hard pack. Very confidence inspiring.

Thanks for the great review! I have the Laser AR for my groomer ski and they make me so much better than I actually am. For powder and big mountain days I have been riding the Atris. My only knock on those is maneuverability in really tight hard pack scenarios like going from a bowl through trees to a lower area. They just end up feeling like they are a lot of ski. I tried the Stormrider 105 a few years ago and they were so good, crushed through chop, and were really fun and forgiving, that I’m thinking about following your advice and doing the two ski quiver of the Stormrider and the Laser AR.
It doesn't get that much better than that!
Very nice review guys. I finally got a chance to demo a pair of Stökli’s near the end of the season in CO. I generally favor a more quick turning ski so I chose a pair of Lazer AX (78mm; 175cm) over a Stormrider. What a great ski. So pleasurable. Subtlety different than any other ski I’ve been on. Easy to turn/smear at low speed yet can hold a tenacious edge when pressing it at GS speeds. Also wonderful in the moguls. I wish I could have hit a day of 4” or so of pow with them but that was not to be. I wanted a pair bad at a 2020/21 discount but the shop had sold out of everything Stökli. I really wanted to buy the demo pair but the shop wouldn’t/couldn’t tell me how many times they’d been skied. (From the top sheet it looked like a lot. The bottoms were pristine and they had just done an edge job for me.) I think a Lazer and a Stormrider 102 would cover everything I’d ever ski. Magnificently. I’m old school - anything over 102 seems ungodly wide to me. I used to ski bottomless with slalom skis and a snorkel. Don’t need/want a pair of water skis to ski deep pow 😂. My current pow ski is a Fischer 102 FR. I now lust after getting a pair of Stöckli. Hate that. It’s hard to justify a $1,200 price tag but dammit they seem almost worth it. (I checked your inventory as I bought my Fischer’s from you but you also are sold out.) Thanks again for a great review - absolutely love your stellar content.

I had no love or want for Stocklis. My typical skis are bentchetler 120's, my fav historic skis were the hellbents and the 140mm waisted Coreupt watch out. It's been an insane season for us at Mammoth, so it's been a great winter to test a wide range of phat skis.
Demo'd the 105 on a 2 foot pow day. It competed with MUCH wider skis. Idk how. The rocker, the flex, it skied deep pow better than the QST blank. It liked being launched off cliffs. It's so we'll balanced and lightweight it likes spinning.
It's a phenomenal ski, even for those of us who usually love playful twintip pow skis.

SR 95 is my favorite ski to just show up with. You don’t know the mountain, you don’t know the conditions and you just don’t care - the ski can do it all! The new 102 might be a great rival for those of us in Utah and Wyoming. A little more float and “early rise” could be fun!
I agree 100% and think you guys out west could have a real winner with this new 102...

i just bought a pair of 2019 stormrider 105s.. yesterday 4-21-2023 i went skiing and there was a few inches of powder on top of crud and ice.. they did get bounced around with the crud and ice but i didn't get beat up as bad as my Frees or my Foundation.. i still need to get on them during the rock hard corduroy and then when it turns into slush.. my Frees and Foundation while riding the rock hard corduroy really vibrate and the vibration goes straight to my back.. i have not got a chance to ski slush with my Frees but my Foundation handle great in slush.. they are a waterski;)
i am probably going to try to check out your reviews of the 105s just to see what you said about them.. i don't think they changed at all from 2019-2022.. do you know?
Thanks for the review, would be great to have a comparison between the AR and the AX. As a Swiss I'm looking into a third pair of ski, I have a slalom and a poweder ski, now I'm looking into one, for all here in the swissalps.
The AX is WAY more versatile. Best all mountain/frontside ski in existence. You might also consider the WRT ST as these are the best Stockli on piste ski.
I think we might combine the AR and AX into one review this summer as sort of a half review/half comparison video.
Great review. Highly interested in this pair of skis. I have a powder ski and backcountry setup and would like to replace my all mountain skis in the 95-105 range. Any thoughts if this would be a good all-rounder in the PNW? We get a variety of conditions here. PNW concrete, powder, groomers. I prefer a little playful. Thanks for any suggestions.
I've been riding the 102's off and on through a 650"+ year. It's my alt ski to a Bent 120. It skis MUCH wider than it looks or measures. It should really be thought of as a 110mm ski, everything just works together so well. In terms of pure pow performance it's a tier above things like the 102 wreckoner, the QST 106, or the Bent 100.
The 102mm is a bit of a deception; the 88 and 95 are much better true all mtn options.

Really wish you had dived a little deeper into direct comments about how the ski works in ice, hard pack and deeper pow. You may not have been able to ski in varied conditions, but very interested on edge hold on ice versus say the SR 95. Pow performance versus the old 105 - a bit more about the changes. It was great to you skiing and cool to show the Stockli factory footage. I just want to know why this is out as a new ski and what it does better. I have SR 95’s and Laser AR’s and love them both. Will be adding this ski for out west soft snow carving and the roughly under 18” pow days. DPS for big pow!!!
The longer taper and wider shovel make it less grippy than the 95 (which virtually has no flaws). I don't think the pow performance differs all that much from the 105, and for the most part, I preferred the old 105 to the new 102 in all aspects.
I'm sure you will get a lot of Length questions, since you mention the Mantra 102 a few times, would the Mantra 102 in 184cm length be more comparable in performance to the 191 Stormrider? Or the 182?
Mantra definitely feels heavier and stiffer, so I do think it's fair to say it skis a little longer than the Stormrider 102... I guess I'd say the 184 Mantra 102 basically falls right in between the 182 and 191 Stormrider in terms of "perceived" length, so to speak. Hope that makes sense...

The big difference is the amount of rocker, at least I think that's the biggest difference. The Justis has a lot more rocker and more splay, so shorter effective edge. More of a surfy, smeary feel in soft snow. It's just as strong as the Stormrider 102 overall, but it's not as precise. Arguably better in soft snow, but I think most people would prefer the Stormrider 102 on trail.
@@SkiEssentials thanks a lot for explaining! .. would you agree that the increased precision of the 102, coming from its longer effective edge and more traditional ski shape, could sometimes also feel a bit grabby / hooky, especially in narrower / steeper / rougher terrain? At least that is my experience from riding the 2019 stormrider 105, to which the new 102 should still be somewhat similar.. thx!!

Can they carve like my Mantra M6? How do they compare to the Enforcer 100? I need a ski that carves and can float in powder too, suggestions? Thanks!
Not as quick edge to edge as your M6 Mantra, but still an excellent carver. Not as strong as an Enforcer, but more dynamic and still relatively strong and stable overall. It is an EXCELLENT option if you're looking for a ski that can carve and float. Enforcer 100 is too.
You didn’t talk about the mount point…which seems pretty in the rear. Thoughts? Thanks
Hey Dwight! Definitely a further back mount point than some skis, but in the Stormrider i think it makes a ton of sense. There's relatively long tip rocker, but almost no tail rocker whatsoever, so being a little further back than some skis puts you in an appropriate spot in regards to the rocker/camber shape.

I have Enforcer 100s and BC 100s. I love everything about the Enforcers except the weight. I love the BC 100s because they are lighter but never find them as confidence inspiring as the Enforcers.
The Stormrider 102s are quit a bit lighter but still have the stable metal. Would you recommend them as a perfect lighter alternative to the Enforcers or would you go for one of the new Nordicas?
I am 160 lbs 5 ft 8 inches and 62 years old. I mainly ski side country. Cost is not an issue. Thanks
Hello! Yes. If you're looking for similar performance and capabilities as your Enforcer 100, but in a lighter ski, the Stormrider 102 is perfect. Have you ever skied or owned a Stockli? If cost isn't an issue, I would go Stormrider 102 for sure. You won't be disappointed.
@@SkiEssentials No, sadly I have never tried a Stockli but have alway wanted to. Living in London UK, my testing options are limited.... Thank you for your insight/advice. I think the best way to stop wondering what it would be like to own a pair of Stocklis, supposedly the Rolls Royce of skis, is to buy a pair ... and at my age I'd better get on with it! I think I am a stable/metal ski kinda guy but am getting to the age where I feel the weight. I was thinking 173 cm [my Enforcers are 177]. Do you think that would be too short? I enjoy off trail more than on.

We don't have a full length review of the AX, but plan on doing one in the coming months. We did have both the AX and AR in our Ski Test last year, so you can find short form videos on both of them.

The price is high because the quality trumps everything else on the market.
As Tony commented, no, it's really just the materials and construction method.
The Swiss take pride in manufacturing in Switzerland, they do not have factories in countries where labor costs are low. If you visit Switzerland you will quickly realize that people are well remunerated whether they are bankers or farm workers in the mountains or ....making skis!
@@colinress if the price is higher because of the labor costs and exchange rate in Switzerland, then the price difference can’t be completely attributed to the difference in quality with other brands. The materials don’t sound more expensive than other brands around the $700 range.

I have been skiing in Switzerland since 1975. EVERYTHING in Switzerland is more expensive than elsewhere for the same products. The Swiss have higher incomes “on average” than in other countries and can afford THEIR own products. They are also more likely to buy “Swiss made “ even if it significantly more expensive. Book a vacation in Verbier or Crans Montana and you will understand why Stocklis are pricey!
Jeff-Love these videos and the comparisons brought into play between the ski being profiled and others in that same general category. That said, would love it if your vids could be more often in the 10-14 minute range than 16-20. Plan it out so there is less of a meandering feel to these. Say it once!
Totally agree with Fred. You guys do a good job, but that same great job in 5-7 minutes would be a great job!

If the DPS Pagoda 106 and the Stormrider 102 went head to head, what would be the summary?
Stormrider 102 is certainly the smoother ski out of the two. More vibration damping and really stays glued to the snow. The Pagoda 106 is a little more responsive, but not as smooth. Both are strong freeride/all-mountain skis, but the different materials used give them a different feel. In a lot of ways, they accomplish the same things, but feel different when doing so.
St..uh....... Klee ( like Berklee But Stuh instead of a B) with slow start and crisp finish is the "correct" / swiss way to pronounce it by the way. I think their updated graphics are looking great.

Yes, although depending on where you ski mostly, you could also make an argument for the 95.

Otis maybe you need to try some other skis and compare. If you do you’ll find these skis are superior to virtually anything else out there. I’ve been in this industry for over 40 years and tested 1000s of skis, and these are superior in their manufacturing and performance. We sell out every year because people try them and feel the difference. You get what you pay for, that’s why a Ferrari cost more. If you knew anything about ski design you would know these don’t have that much rocker. I challenge you to show me a better ski for less money. And FYI I’ve already tested all of next years product, can you say the same?
One thing is for sure-there is NOTHING on the market that comes even close to WRT ST on piste. This ski blows the competition out of the water so much that it isn't even funny.
Once you buy the WRT ST there is only one thing you desire: MORE WRT ST.
Tired of Stockll going on and on about “Swiss Hand Made”. Redundant marketing.
It’s all about PERFORMANCE. Too much rocker. Average ski & overpriced. Purchase price does not equal performance (may work for the wine industry though).
More superior alternatives for 2022.
There is nothing average about Stockli bud. And the quality stuff is REAL.

Name one ski that performs as well as a SR102 both on piste and off.
