Man I would have given anything to be a fly on the wall for that Stars Wars Special meeting with all the suits in Hollywood. You know who will make this thing ? BEA ARTHUR!
Hawaii 5-0 the original was such a long-running show, it's amazing how recording technology changed over the course of its run. When it started in 1968 you had pretty primitive (by today's standards) recording tapes, few of which survive today. By the time it ended in 1980, you had Betamax with more media that survives to this day.
Promo For "The Bible"- Without the announcer narrating this commercial for this movie, I would have thought that this was a promo for a Horror-Slasher movie taking place in ancient times, including the Stone Age. American Lung Association PSA- The girl doing this PSA looked like she was half asleep throughout until she smiled at the end.
I'm a '77 baby, 80's kid, 90's teen, and '00's adult, but im very fascinated by pop culture history; before and during my time. The date here says NOVEMBER 16, 1978. Two days before the Jonestown massacre. Then I see this Hawaii 5-0 preview of "The Miracle Man". COINCIDENCE?!? 🤨🤨 hmmmm......
Yes. It's a coincidence. This Hawaii Five-O episode was most likely based on Jim Jones, but was obviously written and produced well before the Jonestown massacre and was not actually aired until over a month after this on December 21st, 1978. The airing of this episode was most likely delayed due to the Jones connection. BTW Jim Jones was in the news well *before* the massacre. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Jones#Mounting_pressure_and_waning_political_support
Harveys Bristol Cream-Plot twist:her husband was out of town General Electric Televisions-long live the New Flesh 🤣 The Star Wars Holiday Special-thankfully Disney isnt planning a reboot based on the Sequel Trilogy Flying High-the precursor to all those later airline-based shows such as The Crew,L.A 2 Vegas etc. Cup O' Noodles-her relatives fly Colonial Vipers for a living 😆 Lancers Rose-sounds like the title of a Western-themed soap opera Hawaii Five-0-book that charlatan,Danno All In The Family-Edith finally tells Archie that she's sick of being told to"Stifle it!!"😁 Dallas-J.R's reaction to that news was priceless Great Western Champagne-all the party guests stayed afterwards for Kellogg's cereals
Oh man I've seen the Star Wars Holiday Special commercials from the Rifftrax presentation (now available here on YT except for the animated Boba Fett segment) and these are from around the same time! One of the riffs during their version was "Flying High, we don't even have a Wikipedia entry!" Now, it does! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_High_(TV_series)
@@80sCommercialVault Yeah I meant to say it was awesome to have an ad FOR the upcoming SWHS during this volume that came the day before! Some of the ads for the CBS programming were also on the night of the special! This was a good video!
Excellent snapshot of today in history, thank you! I love 70s commercials the most of all.

the commercials back then were better than streaming shows now

The Harvey's Bristol Cream ad was the inspiration for a hilarious parody on SNL with Gilda Radner and Bill Murray.

3:38 - "Hey, CBS! What's coming on??" Only the biggest embarrassment associated with a legendary film franchise!!
But "Rise Of Skywalker" didn't come out until 2019! ;)
I think it was actually fortunate that the news clip at the end faded out from what he was going to further say......
1:18 - "Mother you use Anacin?...I had no idea. I'm going to have to ask you to get the hell out, and take your blasphemous medication with you!"
I was 17 years old…
WJW seriously needs to go back to its CBS affiliation, or better yet, it shouldn't have switched to Fox.
