- I wrote this song while a student at Teen Challenge Cincinnati. A sign inscribed with "A Designated Wilderness Area - Dueteronomy 8" hangs over the entrance of the residential facility. After 27 years of trying my best to please God and feeling like a failure, I opened my Bible and read the passage on the sign. It basically says that God brought his children (Israelites) to the wilderness to test them. To see what was in their hearts and find out whether they'd obey Him or not. Immediately I wept thinking God had brought me to my own wilderness to expose me and show me how far I was from being who He wanted me to be. At that point I couldn't see myself going a day without numbing the pain of my own insecurity and unworthiness, and so in desperation I threw up a prayer begging God to fix me. To take the craving for substances away and somehow give me peace. Over the course of my 9 moths there, He did just that. He healed me. He revealed Himself to me in ways that put my mouth out of taste for the things that held me captive for so long. Have I fallen since? Yes. But the He continues to remind me that on my worst day, He's still on my side. No matter how I may fall, I'll always know that no earthly pleasure is comparable to the reward of His presence. Someday's I forget, but He's still showing me through all of my failure He will remain by my side. He started a good work in me, and He will see it through to the end. Through the good, bad and ugly, this song remains my testimony...

My dad went home to be with the Lord in 85. Since his death I have always said that even though I don't have an earthly father anymore, I have a Heavenly Father that cares and loves me unconditionally. I have seen God's provision, care, sustaining health, and grace. I am not only thankful, but I am also astounded by His timing of His blessings.
Craig, You are a hero. You are one of the good guys, always and forever. Don't ever doubt this. Thank you for bringing so many songs that have brought so many of us back from the edge or helped us to release those hot tears that we have been working so hard to hold away from those we love that we believe should not see them. May God continue to bless you and yours always.
