You can get two wicked documentaries from Severin about the Video Nasty era, directed by Jake West and they're awesome. Even have trailers to 70 plus movies. Some of the movies got banned based on title only, it was a crazy time here in the UK.
Great Video , I love any video nasties related ! Favorites of mine in the ones you mentioned Tenebrae , Absurd, Cannibal Ferox (I've never heard anyone refer to it as cannibal fero ) last house on the left .... I love all these honestly. Some I love not mentioned House on the Edge of the park , Cannibal Man , Flesh For Frankenstein to name a few . There are so many movies I really like on those lists , censorship is definitely Absurd in my opinion (no pun intended) but hey it gave us a list to movies to watch 😁 I love the Video Nasties Documentarys , I got the 1st one from a UK company before severin put them out , so i got the 2nd one from them. I even like the trailers on other discs cuz they are talked about by some great people. The whole video nasties thing to me is just Fascinating! Oh and also I have a channel I did a podcast about Video Nasties years ago it was one of the things I did on my channel. Lastly Nice Stick to your guns tattoo. I always wanted that heart just never got around to it yet.
Great overview of the Video Nasties (debarcle) its was a crazy time in the UK but it was down to dodgy politicians, press & do gooders making a huge noise about these films that were going to turn us all into homicidal maniacs 😱😱🤣 great films you have shown there 👍👍 im so glad thats its not a thing now, sort of took until the mid 90s to dissappear 😱🤩🤩👍👍
Texas chainsaw was released here (UK) on VHS And betamax it was when the censorship came in that's when it was removed it was on section 3 of the list. The burning was released by accident uncut the shops had to send their copies back so they could receive the cut version if the video cassette is date stamped then it's cut if it's not it is uncut I have the uncut VHS. You were not prosecuted if you had the cut version.
TCM was a huge problem child because of James Ferman. I know a company tried to submit TCM with a kid that removed all death scenes after the ban in ‘85 but it still didn’t work out. I can’t imagine what the VHS release that did come out before the ban goes for today. That price must be outrageous. 🤣
The video nasty era was bonkers here in the early 80s. When the Video Recordings Act cane in in 1984, although lots of tapes were removed from shelves, it wasnt until 1988 that everything was gone. I still recall as a 10 year old, seeing Cannibal Holocaust in our local video shop, and that was 1986. I didnt watch it though! Once scissor-happy James Ferman fucked off in 1999, the floodgates opened and loads of stuff came out. Like you, Chris, real animal cruelty is not something that needs to be shown ever imho. Funny how Italian cannibal films are always mentioned regarding this, but nobody talks about the snake that got hacked up in Friday 13th.
