In Europe fries go with mayonnaise. Quite common. About the tab water, it's the most controlled and safest food in Germany. Literally safer than bought one. And we kind of love sparkling water.
Dont forget "Mett" in controlled heaviely too
also i think the mayo is better than in the us
thats wrong tab water at least in the nothern half is way cleaner then bough water @@Taylor-ww6xf
Sprudel all day every day😂😂😂
@@olivert7068 Maybe for freaks, but in common, only salt or some Ketchup is preferred.
James Bray is currently in Germany (Cologne) and shared his first Döner Kebab experience -)

The mayonnaise in Germany / Europe is very different than the mayo you'll get in the US, because of the laws and the food processing. The EU-mayonnaise contains raw eggs - which are very safe in the EU, but forbidden to use in the US. The quality is just another level ... that's why - for example - we don't (!) need to store our eggs inside a fridge. Same with the milk, btw., no fridge needed. So if you get the chance - give it a try! It's worth it! I love my fries with mayo only! :)
Fresh milk is fridged...just heat treated milk (H-Milch) doesn´t need to be fridged as long the package is sealed then you can store it without fridge for months..but when you open the package it has to be fridged as well....just saying.
By the way when Mayo is as white as it was on the picture than there is no difference to US Mayonaise both are done with egg powder...just the way more "yellow coloured" Mayo is "original" meaning done with raw eggs....just saying.
The "classic" is Pommes rot - weiss (fries red and white, this is with ketchup and mayo). In addition, of course, to the curry sauce on the wurst.
In Berlin you can have the Currywurst either in full length or chopped, and then either with or without its natural skin.
True, but taste the same on either continent
have you ever looked inside an egg package? It literally says “store in Fridge for better expiration date and freshness.
So even though we in Europe are not required to store eggs in the fridge the packaging does tell you to store it in the fridge.
i just buy eggs i need ... i can get them on a daily base. no need to store them 50 days or more! ^^+gg
When you are in Germany i wouldn't think to much about foods you avoid. The quality is on top and most additives are banned aswell as genetic modified foods. Very high standards and quality 😊
The beef roast was served with red cabbage (with vinegar, sugar and sometimes apple) and Knödel, which are dumplings made from potato :) this is a more festive dish to me personally in the north
Ohhh defenitly try our bread... when you ask a german abroad what he misses the most and what he missed at first he will say the bread... No joke 😅
You may not know but a Hamburger comes from Hamburg (Hanse city in germany).😂
History said a german takes his Brötchen (Bread roll) with a meatball on his journey to america.
Dear friends, the German "w" is pronounced like the Englisch "v" (the English "w"-sound doesn't even exist in the German language).
So in order to pronounce "Wurst" correctly just say "voorst" and here we are! 🙂
Thanks.
1. weisswurst is made from veal and spiced with majoram (has to be eaten fresh)
2. mayo on fries is a thing for some people (sometimes mixed with ketchup). I think that's the Dutch influence.
3. the stuff with the Sauerbraten was Kloesse (potato dumplings) and Blaukraut (made from red cabbage, and more purple when boiled). Sauerbraten is a more sweet-and-sour kind of dish. the sauce was used to soften up cheaper cuts of meat (originally horse, but nowadays it's almost exclusively beef)
4. what he showed for Pfannkuchen was a Kuechla, which is more akin to a donut (but with a thin layer of dough in the middle). of course it might be some people call them Pfannkuchen as well because some Germans are weird with that word
5. warsteiner and beck's might be the most selling beers, but mostly because they are industrialized and readily available, as he said, try local beers. many of them won't be available in other places
6. Schorlen are a type of drink where you are mixing sparkling water with other drinks to make a sort of soda-like drink. The popular one is of course Apfelschorle, but in wine regions Weinschorle is a thing
7. Germans drink lots of sparkling water. be prepared when you visit: despite being perfectly drinkable restaurants will scoff at you ordering tap water
8. if you want the taste of Germany Doener Kebabs are actually the way to go. Just try it at least once.
How can you not notice its mayonnaise on the fries? 😂
To be fair there are several rather white sauces out there so the taste could be quite different hence the "cautiousness".
mayo on fries is so most normal thing here^^
Don't dismiss Döner Kebab as not German food. Yes, it's Turkish food, but it is Turkish food that was invented in Berlin! And it quickly became the most popular fast food in Germany by far.
Similarly, Spaghetti-Eis (vanilla icecream with strawberry sauce prepared so that looks like spaghetti with tomato sauce) is an Italian icecream specialty that was invented in Mannheim, Germany.
I am pretty sure eating kebab from a spinning grill (that is why it is called Döner) in some kind of bread was a thing already before, and adding galic sauce to it would also not be that far off. So suspect the "invention" of Döner in germany is a bit of myth... but maybe it is magical "Mit Alles?" Question that really makes a Döner a Döner
@@benjamineer3045 These 'inventions' are rarely as (relatively) clear as the one of spaghetti icecream. Döner kebab was already popular in the Ottoman Empire including Greece, and first came to Germany as gyros. Putting it in bread as a kind of high-end fast food obviously made send, but likely was done only occasionally at first. According to Wikipedia, this only became common in the 1970s. There is contradictory information as to whether this was first done in Greece or by Turks in Germany. But the key achievement was to get to the point where it was a super popular and cheap fast food. There is a chicken and egg problem here: It couldn't get popular without being cheap (_far_ cheaper than a plate of gyros in a Greek restaurant), and it couldn't get cheap without mass production of the Döner meat and enough customers to ensure it was used up in a timely manner. I don't even know how they solved this problem.
The white sausages are made with minced veal (leans toward being white in colour) and back bacon. The casings are pork. Most sausages are smoked or cured and contain nitrates to flavour and preserve. The German white sausages do not use nitrates and so do not last too long. They should be eaten soon after they are made. They are seasoned with white salt.
We got a real good horse butcher in Wolfsburg and she make some amazing horse saussages Mixed with some pork meat. And for Schnitzel you can use pork, veal or chicken .
Please tell me where, here in Braunschweig the Freibank is unfortunately closed
Danke! 👍

A High Light of the Christmas Market in Hannover is for me every Year the perfekt Hanoverian Horse Sausage ( Hannoversche Rossbratwurst ) .
It's so mmmmhhhh !
Wwwooouuuuh !
As an American who has lived in Germany for years, this video was a lot of fun to watch. When you visit Germany, I dare say you will probably have a few dishes that will seem familiar - especially if you are from an area with a heavy German immigrant population like Chicago, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Texas. etc, such as Sauerbraten (pot roast), Käsespätzle (macaroni and cheese), Frankfurter Würstchen (hot dogs), Apfelstrudel (apple pie), etc. As the video says, go local. Every region has its own specialties. Before you visit, do your research, find out what is local, find out what will be in season, and go wild!
1:31 she said it right btw 😅 the guy in the Video you watched, said „wörst“ instead of „Wurst“
To "taste germany" is quite a tall order, there are Nationwide staples and Wolters World demonstrated those nicely, but there are very much Regional differences.
You can say every 50-100 km there is gonna be a different Regional Staple, double the distance and those can change drastically.
So if you´re ever gonna do that, it´s gonna be a lot :P
fires with mayonaise
But not the amerian Mayonaise (Fatty tasteless white paste) - The European "Sour Cream" like and spiced Mayonaise
The white color comes from the salt they use. For white sausage they use regular table salt instead of nitrate curing salt. It's made of veil and pork back bacon and herbs.
3:13 White sausage is made of veal ( sometimes pork ). It’s white because instead of using nitrite curing salt (who gives sausage the usual pinkish look) they use normal salt so it stay white.
German cuisine may not be known for its flashy appearance or gourmet presentation, but what it lacks in aesthetics it more than makes up for in flavor. From hearty sausages to rich stews, German food is all about comfort and satisfying hunger. The use of simple ingredients such as potatoes, cabbage, and pork allows the flavors to shine through and create a delicious and satisfying meal. So, if you're looking for a filling and flavorful dish, look no further than traditional German favorites.
About the water quality. Tap water gets monitored 24/7/365.
Exception: Public fountains. Have a Sign. "Kein Trinkwasser" No drinking water.
I really enjoyed your reaction video! There is also a lot of vegetarian and vegan food in German supermarkets or restaurants, that's worth a try too. I hope you have fun and many delicious meals when you visit Germany.
Some time ago, our Aldi actually had American Week, with blueberry jam (wonderful!), cranberries, rocky road cake (yummie!) and peanut butter. That was actually funny. I'm not in Cologne anymore, but in a village, and a group of housewives was standing around the American food, holding up the creamy and crunchy peanut butter, going: "What do you think it is for?" "Is is for baking?" "Why is it called butter?" or "Maybe you dip chips and veggies in it!" hehe, I didn't know either, but I used it as a brezel spread, delicious!
I think you'll enjoy the cakes and sweets but be prepared I heard many Americans be supprised how not sweet cakes and cream and stuff in germany are😂
Hope you have a nice day :)
Hi. Well the reason i drink bubbly water is, because i sometimes have a really dry mouth, especially when i had lots of beer the night before. The sparkling water kinda explodes in my dry mouth and goes in every corner of my mouth... after a few sips the thurst is killed- and i mean killed. Still water just doesnt do the job as well i think. Greetings from germany.
Horsemeat is not commonly eaten, but indeed, its very very tasty
Hanover Horse Sauges 😋
you two are great, and how you look at each other
And no, you do not dip the Brezel in mustard! No German would ever dip a Brezel in mustard😱
Right.
Thank god I’m from Bavaria so I can dip a Brezel in mustard.
Its funny to See you both reacting to each other ..:)
About the "German"-ness of food ... The Döner Kebab is actually kind of a German food: It was invented by the son of a Turkish Immigrant. It is certainly based on a Turkish original, but the way they are served here as street food, a flat bread sliced open and stuffed with that meat and all sorts of vegetables and a yoghurt sauce - that was invented for the German street food market.
And by the ubiquitousness and the fact that basically everyone eats it, I would say it is a modern day German food.
He called it Bubble water, but yes it is Sparkling water, basically if you order water at a restaurant and you don't mention that it is supposed to be "still water", you get sparkling water by default.
those aren‘t potatoes but dumplings. In Germany, dumplings, made either from potatoes, bread or pretzels or a combination, are very popular. You can also get liver dumplings, cheese dumplings, spinach dumplings etc…
I find you both very sympathetic. very interesting reaction
Short correction reg. "Wasser mit Gas". No one in Germany calls sparkling water like this. It is called "Wasser mit Kohlensäure" (=CO2), or "Mineralwasser". Mineralwasser though comes in 3 different levels: with lots of Kohlensäure ( Sparkling gas), we name it "laut/loud", with medium content of sprinkles/gas it is named "leise/quiet", and the last sort is "still/still", means without any sparkling gas, just the good minerals in it.
In Berlin, we call it Sprudelwasser (bubble water). Of course, when I travel to other regions, people laugh when I call it that. 😂
thank you for your video and greetings from southwest germany.
Im from the Netherlands but..... when it come from Germany it always good.....
Weißwurst = white sausage is made of veal and mixed with a special salt it gets white, 85% of the sausages in germany are made out of pork, but some have either beef, veal, turkey or chicken as well.
Pork sausages in Germany mainly
Schwazwälderkirschtorte not only contains cream and cherries, but also traditional Kirschwasser, a liqueur
Kirschwasser is a liqueur !
A alcoholic Drink !
And in Amerika are alcoholic drinks into Food totaly Illegal ! 😢
If you the demouchets ever come to Germany I would love to invite you to eat through Germany 😊❤
Weisswurst is made of veal and some pork fat (because veal isn't fatty enough), most others are just made of pork. there are koscher, halal and vegan options of course.
13:00 uh oh, don't be looking for richness in German pastries, because sure some of them are and some Konditoreien as well as some bakeries still do the 100% butter buttercremes but overall German pastries are much less sweet than USAmerican ones.
If you coming to bavaria, try a Schwabentopf.
Just the bomb :)
There are also several regional dishes beside the regional Sausages.
This goes for all kinds of food as well, so cakes, meat, dinner, breakfast etc.
And you might be right to not gain weight as Germany (or the EU...maybe the rest of the world) doesn't put Corn Syrup into everything and hence infuse it with a sweeter taste but also tons of kcal.
One of the reasons why stuff like Coca Cola tastes different in Germany compared to the US.
Also as the original clip mentioned it, yes Curry Ketchup (Hela) is different from normal Ketchup, not only that it tastes more spicy but also less sweet giving it quite the different taste to standard Ketchup.
But yeah... I'd suggest classical dishes plus stuff from Bakery's as it's probably quite nice, especially considering they sell real bread in Germany :3
I have been living in Germany for 50 years and never came across a sausage made of horse. And the white sausage is not made with intestines.
Come to the Rhineland you will find Pferdewurst in every butchery.
@@hrruben5135 In a butchery you can get nearly everything.
you can get them, mostly closer to France or in big cities. it's not really common anymore.
You've definitely seen horse bratwurst before, but you don't recognise it. 😉
Very often there are Ross Bratwurst Trader at the Christmas market.
At some smaller butchers in the villages, you can sometimes get some. But most of the time there are extra "Freibanken" for this.
I really like to eat horse roulades and horse bratwurst, and always bring me something with me when I come through the Harz Mountains.
And the horses are not bred for food, nor are they sick or old. Most of the time they have a fracture that they can't live with.
And since this is no longer very common in Germany, there is little horse meat today.
In the past, for example, Sauerbraten also consisted of horse meat.
I'm surprised at that. There used to be a horse butcher's stall at the weekly market when I went to uni in Göttingen. And I believe there's still one at the market in Neuss. I'm not on the look-out for house meat, but I know people who like it, and eat it when they get a taste for it.
Great video 😊
Hey, am I your 100.000th subscriber? By chance 😊 My RUclips told me so ;)
Weißwurst is pork. It's one of the the fattiest wurst you can eat, although it doesn't taste fatty but delicious, it is white because of all the fat. It's a Kochwurst (kochen=to cook), its cooked not grilled or fried.
He’s definitely the positive one
A lot of Germans eat Mayonnaise and Ketchup on fries. As a german citizen, I love it.
Currywurst you must eat in "Ruhrgebiet" or Ruhrpott.
Döner kebab is actually a German invention even if it originally comes from Turkey. In Germany, people have started packing the kebab meat in a bun and garnishing it with yoghurt sauce and various raw vegetables. Today's German food is nevertheless largely characterized by international influences. French fries don't call french fries for nothing because they originated in France. However, these reviews often only show restaurant food or street food. In Germany also many vegetable stews are also popular. Or Italian cuisine as a lot of pasta is eaten.
If you are in Germany please do me a favor and first of all at least mayonnaise on the fries I could imagine that you will be very surprised how good it tastes. We are not as creative as the Dutch with their toppings on the fries, because they also have Joppiesaus and Pindasaus, but our mayonnaise is really very good. There are differences, but most of them are really good.
Come! If you feel like coming to Karlsruhe, we will welcome you! We have 4 sleeping spots! ❤️
If you tell a german you want water with gas he will look strange at you. Nobody says that. It's Sprudelwasser (bubbling-water / fizzing-water). And stilles Wasser (still water)
Super 👍 liebe grüße aus Germany
You should come to Osnabrück and I'm going to tell you what we really eat on a daily basis😊 Oh, I remember when I was in New York when I was 16 with my family, such an amazing experience, I'll never forget. I brought some american cookies with me😂 Never ate another better cookie ❤
I am reasonably sure that American Mayo is not exactly the cream of the Crop.
I know German brands of Mayo can´t hold a candle to the Easter European "Winiary" for example, so if you can find any of that or a a Brand called "Thomy" over here you should try it, it will change your views on mayo.
We also got some no-name Mayo floating around here in germany that absolutes taste like asscheeks and still manages to get sold, so i can imagine if it´s NOT a mainstream condiment, you get even worse over there.
Horse meat is meat for poor people. Back in the days. The white sausages tastes EXTREMLY good. It looks not so good, though. But order and eat if, if you have the chance. The white sauce is mayonaise. It fits fries perfectly, try it out if you don't believe it.
I swear on Mayo !!
Würst ❤️ soft u and it is sooo goood!
pretty nice react
This guy makes me want to eat 😭
every counties have different beer potato's sausages
You will definitely eat some good food.
Did I just hear that right, or do they seriously believe the sausage is made from horse meat?
Wrong, it's pork.
There is also fish sausage, but that is really made from fish meat. But it tastes very salty.
I'm more into fish meatballs, or labskaus. Our food laws are strict. That's why we have, for example, mince pies here. Raw meat is put through a meat grinder, refined with bacon and spices. After it has been put on bread, onions and pepper are added according to taste. Tastes delicious on bread rolls.
look James bray him taste cheese ! and say real cheese in Germany
Frikadele is not a burgerpad !!!

dont call fries french fries pls xD they are from Belgium not France

Jägerschnitzel 🤤
German eats a lot of beef, pork and chicken. I dont even eat that I am more vegetarian😅😅 any vegetarian food recommended to try?
Is not a burger is better and fresh!😊😁
No No No. Spelt Wurst. The “W” is sounded as a “V”. It’s simple people the W is a V in Germany. When you get a Bratwurst (which is the best German sausage). It’s not pronounced Brart wurst it’s pronounced Br At Vurst (please don’t pronounce the “a” as a “at” it’s “A”. Not your fault it’s the way your taught!
Forget that the food in Germany is great they know how to make sausages and anything pork, also their wild boar is fabulous. Their pomme frites (fries to the US) or potato fried are normally thin fries like yours then they take them from the fryer and placed in a plastic open box and salt is thrown in the they are tossed to share the salt around, they have a special mayonnaise just for the chips (UK) delicious, I’ve tried but I can’t get the mayonnaise in the UK but our own. I was in the RAF in Germany for a total of 10 years loved every minute of it.😊
If you really want the real German food experience, you can not avoid pork and beer.
Schweinshaxe 🤤
Water with Gas was a absolutely terrible way to describe the word Seltzer.
I %$@*&^% LOVE currywurst.
The real Hamburtger is from Germany the americans pimp that. yes an Hamburger ist original german.

You probably could try Dairy Products in germany, because other than the US the EU Pasteurizes Milk products properly, except Cheese i believe.
America uses a shorter time and lower heat to Pasteurize and that makes the difference.
That never caught on in the US for some weird reason, it´s the reason we don´t have to refrigerate our Milk and it´s been around since the 1400's, so that´s why it´s kinda weird that America doesn´t do it the traditional way.
You CAN get Milk that is not Pasteurized at all, it is usually labeled as "Fresh" Milk and that needs to be refrigerated, since the standards are different, your COULD try that, but probably not recommended if your Doctor warned you, i am lactose intolerant myself, and there is Lactose free stuff here too. Milk, Cream, Yoghurt and all.
Egal wo du in Deutschland bist, du kannst den Wasserhahn öffnen und das Wasser trinken.
Das Wasser für die Toilettenspülungen in Deutschland ist Trinkwasser und sauberer als in fast allen anderen Ländern dieser Welt.

NOTHING wrong with pork. Don’t be silly.
Dairy milk, however, not exactly healthy.
