Good info! I am planning, in 4 months, on running a marathon on a converted rail corridor (compacted granite) and was debating whether to use a trail or road show. Ran a half, on the road, in the Altra Tempo and liked it, plus I just got a great deal on last year's Vanish Carbon (will try them in a 10k). I have the Superior which I run Canicross in. Oh yeah...I'm slow. Any opinion on shoe type for this type of surface? Thanks!
I have last year's vanish carbon too. They will be great for a 10K, but the Vanish Carbon and Vanish Carbon 2.0 are 100% Road only shoes IMHO. I would keep them for the road. Good luck in your races this season! Of the shoes I have worn -- if I were running a marathon on a gravel road -- I would consider the Mont Blanc or Mont Blanc Carbon as my first two picks. They are very comfortable all day shoes that have a very forgiving and comfortable ride. The tread is not super aggressive, so they would do well on gravel. I would also look at the following two shoes -- I have not tried these Altra shoes. Altra Outroad 2.0 -- Altra advertises them as their gravel shoe of choice. This is a 0 drop shoe like the Vanish Carbon, Superior and Tempo. "Ever take off for a road run but see a gravel or dirt trail that’s just calling your name? In the Outroad 2, you can run outside the lines and explore the terrain your heart desires." www.altrarunning.com/shop/mens-shoes-trail/mens-outroad-2-al0a82c3?variationId=480 www.altrarunning.com/launch/2022/outroad.html If you want a little 4mm heel to toe drop they just released the: Men's Experince Wild www.altrarunning.com/shop/mens-shoes-trail/mens-experience-wild-al0a82cf?variationId=280 I am not affiliated with Run Moore, but order a lot of shoes from them.
