    Weird video. We can't see the shoes!?

    I'm disappointed with Timp 5. I've got 2 pairs of Timp 4s and they're much more comfortable in the toebox. The bumper of Timp 5 is too thick and folds/bends in a wrong way, which bites around the big toe. The outsole is wider than on Timp 4, but the Timp 5 toebox feels more cramped. I hate this kind of ridiculousness. For me, the shoe is unsuitable for long runs (21k plus). This is the major fault. I don't really care about Vibram, because I always slow down instead of trusting the shoe.

    Kinda funny how you show off the shoe in detail and saying "you can see this and this..." while blocking the view with footage of courself on top of it. Maybe something to consider for future videos ;) Otherwise good information in the video, been considering these shoes after recently running pretty much exclusively in Torin 7s and Olympus 5s.

    Would these be good/better for forefoot running/sprints?

    • @veryadequate
      @veryadequate 4 месяца назад

      I usually run my sprints in Escalante 3.0's right now. On Monday's I like to do about 6 to 8 50 to 75 yard full sprints (full out effort. Walk back and recover, then sprint again -- usually flat or uphill) I did do two days of sprints in the vanish carbon. I didn't like the start on them because they are so soft, but once I got going I felt just as fast and maybe even slightly faster than normal. However to save the shoes, I went back to sprinting in my Escalante's. When running fast with the Vanish Carbon's (sprinting or downhill) you really need to be able to handle the energy return and increased running cadence. I really notice the increased turnover when running downhill. If a buddy or someone challenged me to a serious sprint race -- I don't think I would lace up the Vanish Carbons.

    Hey Ryan! New subscriber here! I've also ran in the Altra Timp 5's and found them to be very good and better than the new Altra Experience Wild, but I also found myself wanting to run more in the Topo MTN Racer 5 (5mm drop) or Topo Pursuit 2 (0mm drop). That said, I feel that the Timp 5 outsole and midsole are very good overall though I did notice that the upper retains water inside the shoe (after getting it wet via a stream crossing) which may be an issue for some. I'll be interesting to compare the Timp 5 with the up-and-coming Olympus 6 considering that the Timp 5 has the "better" EGOMax midsole. Anyways, great in-depth review and feedback! Cheers!!!

      @veryadequate 4 месяца назад

      Thanks for your feedback. I have overall heard good things about Topo -- I know on boards that I frequent a lot of people have tried them out because they aren't huge fans of the LP7/8. I also haven't tried running in any non-0mm drop shoes. I really prefer the 0mm drop (some of my gym shoes are 4mm drop) -- all of my running shoes are 0mm drop (road and trail). I will certainly give the Olympus 6 a look -- they do look like a very solid shoe. They certainly check a lot of the boxes. However since I started running -- I have never had a trail shoe with the stack height of the Olympus, so that will be interesting to feel. I do avoid water with my shoes (I will jump creeks or slow down and use rocks to cross when possible), but I can certainly see the "tough" upper of the Timp 5 being slower to drain. It will certainly drain slower than the Mont Blancs. Currently trail running/hiking shoes: 1. LP8 - hiking 2. Vibram Five Fingers - V-Trail 2.0 3. Timp 5 - my favorite running 4. Mont Blanc Carbon -- long trail races

    Yo! Fellow GRT. Love it. I've always did events in Lone Peaks - thoughts on TIMP vs. now that LP 7s and 8s are a little bit different than the legendary 5s and 6s? LOL nvm - addressed at 8:45

    • @veryadequate
      @veryadequate 4 месяца назад

      I have used LPs since the 1.0 release, I feel like starting with LP6 and more so in LP7 and LP8 they have turned the Lone Peak into a hiking shoe that is very capable of running, while the Timp is probably their preferred performance trail running show. They don't seem to know what to do with the superior. I want to like the superior, but it is uncomfortable. I have read rumors online they might bring back the King MT -- that would be awesome.

      @veryadequate 5 месяцев назад

      So far I am very impressed with it. The material is very tough in the upper and the grip is made from Vibram, so I expect them to be durable

    Good info! I am planning, in 4 months, on running a marathon on a converted rail corridor (compacted granite) and was debating whether to use a trail or road show. Ran a half, on the road, in the Altra Tempo and liked it, plus I just got a great deal on last year's Vanish Carbon (will try them in a 10k). I have the Superior which I run Canicross in. Oh yeah...I'm slow. Any opinion on shoe type for this type of surface? Thanks!

    • @veryadequate
      @veryadequate 5 месяцев назад

      I have last year's vanish carbon too. They will be great for a 10K, but the Vanish Carbon and Vanish Carbon 2.0 are 100% Road only shoes IMHO. I would keep them for the road. Good luck in your races this season! Of the shoes I have worn -- if I were running a marathon on a gravel road -- I would consider the Mont Blanc or Mont Blanc Carbon as my first two picks. They are very comfortable all day shoes that have a very forgiving and comfortable ride. The tread is not super aggressive, so they would do well on gravel. I would also look at the following two shoes -- I have not tried these Altra shoes. Altra Outroad 2.0 -- Altra advertises them as their gravel shoe of choice. This is a 0 drop shoe like the Vanish Carbon, Superior and Tempo. "Ever take off for a road run but see a gravel or dirt trail that’s just calling your name? In the Outroad 2, you can run outside the lines and explore the terrain your heart desires." www.altrarunning.com/shop/mens-shoes-trail/mens-outroad-2-al0a82c3?variationId=480 www.altrarunning.com/launch/2022/outroad.html If you want a little 4mm heel to toe drop they just released the: Men's Experince Wild www.altrarunning.com/shop/mens-shoes-trail/mens-experience-wild-al0a82cf?variationId=280 I am not affiliated with Run Moore, but order a lot of shoes from them. They have a 10% off coupon code. shop.letsrunmoore.com/ Coupon Code: RUNMOORE @RunMoore www.youtube.com/@RunMoore
