My favourite sound in the late summer/ early autumn is that of big rig tractors ploughing in the distance - without our farmers we’d all be starving. This era of big tractors is the best for me - no computers, no fly by wire or AI, just the skill of the ploughman setting the depth, throttle and pace all day and night long. Magic.

We had two 7520s in the mid 1970s hold 8/16 and 10/16s with them without any trouble. You need some weights on the front of that tractor and a little less moisture. Does seem to be having a go Rollie Pullen six bottoms in my opinion

My oldest cousin bought one for his farm in southern Ny in 72. I was three and can still remember my first ride in it. Later in the 80’s I got to operate it plowing and discing in the spring and running a forage harvester chopping corn for silage in the fall. Hands down I still think it was the greatest tractor I ever got to run in the field. Straight from the factory His had the big singles not duals and he never changed that. Last I checked, this past spring now 52 years later than the day it was delivered it’s still working the same farm using the same equipment since the day it was new it has just gone from father all the way to grandchildren behind the steering wheel of it now. It somehow never got too small for that farm and never let them down. They have always kept it in perfect order and it has repaid them by becoming known as old reliable #3. Old reliable #1 being a 1959 730 and old reliable #2 being a 1964/65 4020 with powershift transmission. All of which were bought brand new and always kept and still regularly used on the same farm.

My Dad bought the first 7520 out of John Deere out of Casselton ND in 1972 for $22,500 . My uncle bought one the next year and had to pay $33, 000 for it because of demand. It was happening again , look how the price of equipment jumped recently. BTW, I still haven my uncle's 7520. It's in great shape for its age and just put new radial tires on it.

I'm an old fashioned bugger ,I much prefer a plow or in England we spell it plough fitted with skimmers as well as disc's so the skimmers start to turn over the stubble then the breast or mole board turns the lot over and there is no rubbish shown on the surface ,the down side is you have to drop a gear otherwise the plow is prone to block up in there lays the skill of the tractor man, I enjoy looking at a freshly plowed field where the stetching is marked out correctly using a conventional plow and all the stubble rubbish is buried or the manure, but plowing is an expensive operation so I suppose most farmers prefer direct drilling, with the weather the way it is now you do need to get on and off the field as quickly as possible. Great video as always Jason many thanks Kevin Fox, England.

We used the same tractor and plow. Only we had a seventh bottom on the plow. The 588 plows had an issue with the center beam bowing down in the middle in tough conditions.
Very reliable tractor without the issues of the 8630 and the junk front frame that flexed the engine block and caused engine failures.

We had a 4620 turbo with a 6 bottom plough. We originally had a normally aspirated 5020. The 4620 was a much better tractor!
Surprised how much the 7520 was struggling for traction where the ground was damp! Looks like he had his depth control set a bit optimistically!

When under a heavy load the rear wheels have a tremendous amount of weight transferred to them. A typical 4WD tractor has 65% of the weight on the front wheels until you load it up then the weight is close to 50-50% distributed. Also, the rear wheels are following in the ruts caused by the front wheels so it looks like it’s nose high.

This field was tiled after wheat harvest. They plowed to smooth it out. The rest of the farm’s fields are strip tilled. Plowing is also helpful for getting a clean seed bed for green peas. This field was seeded into oats for a cover crop after it was plowed.
