- The East Lancashire Railway Summer Diesel Gala took place a week earlier than usual, on the final weekend of June vs the first week of July. Having booked four days off to cover the event imagine my shock at having booked the July dates off instead... Oh well, we have just one day's footage all of which was taken at Burrs on Thursday 27th June 2024.
Featuring 20066, 25279, 26007,37109, 37425, 47765, 47830, 50015, 70014, D5054, D9531, working a mixture of passenger services calling at Burrs as well as short mixed-freight services which operated non-stop (and provided brake-van rides to a small number of visitors). Freightliner kindly provided two visiting locomotives, the more traditional heritage type of locomotive in 47830 and something much more modern in the form of Class 70 "Powerhaul" locomotive 70014. 37425 & 20066 were provided by HNRC with 37425 still sporting its retro "Regional Railways" livery from its time at DRS (minus the "Concrete Bob" nameplates) and 20066 had recently been outshopped into BR blue and looked excellent. A special shout out also to 37109 which was looking stunning in BR Trainload Freight - Metals Sector livery and 26007 in Coal Sector livery.
A quick shout out to the cows too, they hadn't been bothered by our presence in the field for most of the day but after a few hours they began to moove around for some lunchtime grazing, eventually moving over towards us. After we got the shot of the 26 coming back through we retreated to the pub for an hour in order to give them some space... Any excuse for a pint really ;)
I wanted to upload this a few days earlier but I have been on flying duties from Saturday onwards so have been chiselling away at it between flights, I hope it was worth the wait :)

Bet you were in cloud nine Phil! Wonderful footage of these old timers and the weather generally was kind too! Fantastic shots there, god the 40' was really rough, sounded aweful! Enjoyed this, glad you made the day after the confusion over the dates, cheers Nick.

Great captures of a great ( future gala in July 😯😂) Phil. You won't beat inquisitive cattle 🤣so the pub for an hour was best all round. I was there on the Friday and the cattle forced hundreds of school kids on a hike to turn back!
Thanks Phil, I hadn't spotted that balls up. I remember one year we were all chased out by the cows as they took a disliking to the sound of a passing Deltic ;)
